Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophie Hunter attended ‘The Roses’ UK premiere

Sometimes, when I’m looking at photos of Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter, it really does feel like photo-editors used face-swapping technology. They really do look similar, and Sophie really resembles a younger version of her husband. Anyway, Sophie skipped her husband’s American promotion for The Roses, but she came out for the London premiere last night. This is the film where Benedict and Olivia Colman play a British couple going through an extremely contentious divorce in California. As for Sophie and Bendy, do you realize that they’ve been married for a decade? It’s true, they married on Valentine’s Day 2015. A decade and three kids later, Bendy recently revealed his marriage secrets:

Benedict Cumberbatch credits one “rule” to keeping his marriage with wife Sophie Hunter strong. During his appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast alongside his The Roses costar Olivia Colman, the 49-year-old actor opened up about what irritates his family members.

“Being away from home p—– them off,” the actor said during his episode, which released on Thursday, Aug. 28. Because being apart from his wife of 10 years and their three children also upsets Cumberbatch, he’s implemented a “two-week rule” to keep their bond tight.

“It p—–me off too, so we try and do as much to make that not the case — the two-week rule, and try to work as hard as possible on making work happen here nearer home so I can get home, or take them with me,” Cumberbatch said.

[From People]

A lot of actors try the two-week rule, but it’s difficult and it does limit the kind of projects they take on. It does explain a lot of Benedict’s career in the past decade though – a lot of smaller, British productions which few people paid attention to. Which is fine – it’s clear that his priority is being a husband and father now. He’s got three young sons, Christopher (Kit), Hal and Finn. I think they gave their sons cute and short first names because “Cumberbatch” is a pretty CUMBERsome surname.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophie stepped out at the Serpentine Gallery party

Eight or nine years ago, these photos would have been our biggest story of the day! That was back in the heyday of our collective Benedict Cumberbatch obsession, as well as the heyday of Benedict wanting that kind of attention. He had fun with it, being an internet boyfriend and then promoting his relationship with Sophie Hunter. Bendy and Sophie married in 2015 when she was pregnant with their first child. They are now the parents to three sons: Christopher (Kit), Hal and Finn. Fatherhood really made Bendy chill out and the internet-boyfriend thing subsided hard. It helped that the Sherlock series went away – there hasn’t been anything since January 2017, more than seven years ago.

All of which to say, Bendy and Sophie Hunter(batch) were out and about this week. They attended the Serpentine Gallery’s summer party, which is sort of a famous event during London’s summer social scene. Sophie’s dress is very trendy, but I absolutely HATE those shoes. My God. I think those are probably back in style too, but they should not be. Benedict looks nice, although his look feels very American, right? He looks like he’s about to pull up to the VMAs.

Meanwhile, Benedict recently confirmed that his Doctor Strange will appear in Avengers 5: “It’s been a very lovely relationship with that company. I’m very much looking forward to Avengers [5] next year.” Apparently, “more than 60” MCU characters are supposed to be in the fifth Avengers film. Whenever I consider Benedict’s career, I’m like “he could have been a much bigger actor” and then I remember that he’s part of one of the biggest franchises in history. While he’s associated closely with Doctor Strange, it does feel like his career beyond the MCU has suffered from the “Marvel actor’s curse,” right?

Tom Hiddleston looked proud as a peacock with Zawe Ashton at the BAFTAs

Tom Hiddleston & Zawe Ashton attended last night’s BAFTAs together, one of their rare coupled-up red carpet appearances. They have been together for years now. They were friends/acquaintances for years, then they worked together on Betrayal, and they’ve been together ever since. It’s been about three years! There’s always lowkey gossip about how serious they are about each other, and how she lived with him in Atlanta during the pandemic, and how they’re living together right now in London. Well, it looks like they’re even more serious these days. OMG. I won’t write it out, but I feel like we should congratulate them. She’s glowing and he looks proud as a peacock. I’m so happy for them! (Also, how tall is Zawe? I’m sure she was wearing heels, but Tom is TALL and she’s right up there with him.)

I’m sure Benedict Cumberbatch thought he had a good shot at picking up the BAFTA for Best Actor, but he ended up losing to Will Smith, who didn’t even go to London. Benedict was classy in defeat and even said kind words about Will when he was on stage for The Power of the Dog’s other wins. Bendy came to the BAFTAs with his wife Sophie Hunter(batch), who finally wore something other than Erdem! This is Dior and it’s lovely. I still hate whoever said that Bendy and Sophie have identical faces though, because I can’t unsee it. They look like brother and sister.

The BAFTAs also saw the red-carpet couple debut of Millie Bobby Brown and her boyfriend Jake Bongiovi. I hope everything is totally fine and that’s all I have to say. Her dress is Louis Vuitton.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophie Hunter attended the ‘Spider-Man’ premiere

Sony Pictures Spider-Man: No Way Home Los Angeles Premiere

Here are some photos of Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter(batch) at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Benedict returns to the Marvel universe as Doctor Strange, and he has a huge role in the whole “multiverse” thing, please don’t try to explain it to me. All I know is that Bendy’s got a stand-alone Doctor Strange sequel coming out next year called Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. That sequel is reportedly going through huge reshoots because – at least partially – there are major script/story issues with “the multiverse” and which stories are told.

Sophie and Benedict will celebrate their SEVENTH wedding anniversary next February, in two months. Crazy how time flies on this one. It feels like it was only yesterday that Sophie was discreetly hiding a bump on the red carpet. Now they’re parents to three boys and Sophie still comes out to Bendy’s premieres! She’s probably going to lots of awards shows next year as well, as it looks like Bendy is a sure thing for Best Actor nominations for The Power of the Dog. Yesterday, he was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award.

Bendy ran away from security so he could spend some time with all of the fans who came out for the premiere:

Sophie Hunter looked pretty great in a Roksanda sack dress in London

London Film Festival 2021 - The Power Of The Dog UK Premiere Arrivals at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London

I really wish we could go back to the halcyon days of the Obama administration, when everyone here was equally obsessed with either loving or hating Benedict Cumberbatch. Whenever Bendy walked a red carpet, especially with Sophie Hunter, we were guaranteed 300-plus comments. I miss that! Anyway, last night, The Power of the Dog premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter(batch) were there. As was Kirsten Dunst, Bendy’s costar. They’re actually positioning both Cumberbatch and Dunst for an awards-season run, although I think Dunst might have a better shot, in general. She would end up in the supporting category, and I’m not sure the awards-prognosticators are entirely sold on Bendy-as-an-American.

Surprisingly, I think the biggest story from the premiere is that Sophie looked pretty amazing. There really aren’t that many women who can make a sack dress look chic and elegant, and Sophie is one of the few. This sack dress is the Artemis dress by Roksanda. Sophie has eased herself out of Erdem-fandom and she’s branching out to other designers. It’s nice. Seriously though, I would look like a lumpy blob in this dress. But she looks so pretty. Look at the back too!

Unfortunately, someone had to wear Erdem and that someone was Kirsten Dunst. I miss her Rodarte era and I would love to know why she’s not wearing Rodarte these days! This Erdem is a lovely color, and that’s about the only nice thing I can say. It’s unflattering and Kiki’s stylist should have talked her out of this. All that being said, don’t you think we’ll see this dress on the Duchess of Cambridge at some point this autumn? It’s VERY keen.

Kaia Gerber & Jacob Elordi wore Celine for the AMMP gala: super-cute?

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala

Here are some couple photos from Saturday night’s opening gala for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in LA. Whoever put the invitation list together did a great job of mixing it up with young and established figures. Kaia Gerber attended the gala with her boyfriend Jacob Elordi. They’re a very photogenic couple, and they both wore Celine. I think this dress is kind of perfect for her? She seems to be at a healthier-looking weight too.

Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom attended. It’s a little bit strange that they’ve become this established couple at Hollywood events now, but sure. She wore Louis Vuitton and it looks like cheap vinyl.

Halle Berry attended with her current boyfriend, Van Hunt. She wore this Etro minidress which suited the occasion but was too puffy-sleeved for my taste.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophia Hunter. Who allowed this man to shave? Why did he get a haircut?? SOB. He was looking so good in Venice and Toronto and now this?? Bendy wore Armani but I don’t have an ID on Sophie’s dress. She wears a lot of Erdem, so maybe this is Erdem.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophie Hunter attend Venice ‘Power of the Dog’ premiere

78th Venice Film Festival

I had a little preview of this in yesterday’s post about the Venice Film Festival. Benedict Cumberbatch arrived in the early days of Venice to promote The Power of the Dog, where he plays a cruel cowboy with secrets. The film was directed by Jane Campion and Bendy costars with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons (a real-life married couple). Bendy also brought his wife Sophie to the Venice premiere! We haven’t seen Sophie in a while! The last time she attended a premiere with Bendy, it was the 2019 premiere of The Current War.

Sophie wore Emilia Wickstead – a very happy, bright look. Sophie got it just right? She’s not overdressed, she’s not “competing” with Benedict’s female costar, and she looks good next to Bendy. I mean, he always looks sort of awkward with her, like he’s an alien trying to replicate human affection. But it’s fine, he knows she’s loyal and faithful. They’ve mostly figured it out. They’ve been married for over six years. Three sons as well: Christopher (Kit), Hal Auden and Finn Cumberbatch. He really kept her knocked up, didn’t he?

Kirsten Dunst wore Armani to the premiere. Many of the models who attended the first night’s premiere wore Armani and all of those gowns sucked. I’m kind of wondering if Armani held back all of their good dresses for the A-listers, because this gown is pretty great. Shocked that she’s not in Rodarte!
