And when you go on all these hormones and stuff, before I felt like, you know, I was trying everything so I was getting bigger and bigger and I was like ‘No, I’m not pregnant yet, I need to be skinny.’ So, I was definitely insecure. And, I mean, sometimes I’ll wear something and I’ll get inside and be like ‘Oh my God, I want to take these shoes off,’ like ‘That was not normal, I can’t wear these, I need to just leave and take them off.’ So it might look good in the picture, but I get them and then like, I’ve got to be normal and like unbutton my pants when I get in the car.
On how wearing flats was the hardest thing about pregnancy:
I happen to hate the way I look in flats. It’s really hard for me so I’m already thinking, like, ‘What the f–k am I going to do?’ And when I was pregnant, it was the hardest thing. But I know it’s better and easier, you know, so it’s a struggle.
On her concept of beauty:
Beauty comes from within. It’s a cliché, but I think it’s true. However, in this business, it’s hard to reconcile that when you’re constantly being told things about your appearance, whether it’s that you are too pretty or too plain or too brunette or whatever the problem is.
On how women are scrutinized for their looks:
Absolutely! Increasingly! Look at Hillary Clinton. She has to spend time getting her hair and makeup done whereas a male candidate doesn’t have to do that as much. Or at least as much grooming. It really is this very old concept that we are valued for putting ourselves together and presenting ourselves.
On maintaining her beauty and figure:
‘I’m not fanatical about anything. I just commit to keeping my skin clean and I never sleep with my make-up on. I eat very healthily and drink lots of water. I moisturize intensely and have done since I was 11 year’s old.’
On how she created her trademark 60’s look:
‘I created the look but I just did it myself in my bedroom. I copied my rag doll and her clumpy lashes. I didn’t wear face make-up but I had big eyes and skinny legs so I didn’t look like anybody else.’

On why she never wears figure-hugging clothes:
”I’m so reserved. I like outfits that come to my knee and aren’t too tight or revealing. I’m too self-conscious of my body and my appearance. I hate the idea of standing in front of a hundreds of people while they take my picture. It’s a nightmare and I feel so uncomfortable. Maybe I’ve improved a little, but any time I’m on the red carpet I lose all sense of myself. I find it so odd. I know it sounds like a contradiction but I never went into acting for all eyes on me.
