Jemima Kirke Cut Her Hair and Undressed for StyleLikeU

The full story from Daily Mail: The 31-year-old Girls star was filming the StyleLikeU’s video series, The What’s Underneath Project, when she discussed her seven-year marriage, admitting that she and ex husband Michael ‘couldn’t be more different’. As part of the series, participants are asked to strip down to show that style is really about being comfortable in your own skin, and during the candid interview Jemima revealed the she real reason she cut her trademark long blond hair was because of troubles with Michael. ‘I cut my hair because I felt like my hair was really one of the only things that made me feel pretty,’ she explained. ‘I felt like my hair was my go-to trick. I really believed for a while that without it I would be boring. ‘I was having a terrible moment with my husband in our relationship and I was extremely hurt by him and extremely angry at him and so I was feeling self-destructive.’ Instead of doing something truly self-destructive, Jemima said she ended up just cutting her hair, and it was actually Michael who gave her an even shorter ‘do a couple weeks after their fight. ‘I said I wanted to go shorter and he said “I’ll do it” and he cut it. It was really nice,’ she added. ‘It was kind of romantic. It’s nice to have someone you love cut your hair.’ Jemima pre-haircut: (…)Read the rest of Jemima Kirke Cut Her Hair and Undressed for StyleLikeU (1 words) © Versus for Skinny VS Curvy, 2017. | Permalink | 14 comments | Add to del.icio.us Post tags: beauty image, hair, haircut The post Jemima Kirke Cut Her Hair and Undressed for StyleLikeU appeared first on Skinny VS Curvy.

Lara Stone: “Nobody told me to lose weight”

On never being told to lose weight: ‘Maybe I was just naïve, but I’ve never felt uncomfortable. All those stories you hear about fashion… Nobody told me to lose weight.’ On the hardest part of modeling: ‘The only thing that was hard was you literally go to ten castings a day and then you get zero jobs. Its a job, and if someone’s looking for something and it’s not you then that’s fine. You should accept it.’ On being scouted when she was not attractive: ‘I was scouted when I was 13 or 14… It was the most confusing thing ever – I was definitely not attractive. I was a geeky teenager; awkward and thin and lanky and weird. And I had strange teeth.’ More of Lara inside! Tracee Ellis Ross: “I am small for people and big for an actress”

44 year-old Tracee Ellis Ross, who stars in Black-ish, recently opened up to People Magazine about weight fluctuations, style and not being Hollywood thin. The full story from People: “I’ve always been connected to the narrative of clothing,” she says. “My mom taught me that you can spend money on nice things if you’re going to use them. For example, I have an Alexander McQueen jacket that I wear with everything, even sweatpants.” One of the things she has also learned over the years is stop obsessing over her size despite not being Hollywood thin. “You know, I am not a sample size,” she says. “I am not a model size. I am small for people and big for an actress. My weight fluctuates a lot and I move with it. It is what it is. That’s why I try not to have a relationship with the size that I am.” And she deals with the change in her own unique way. “I actually own my favorite jeans in three sizes—28, 29 and 30,” she explains. “Depending on how I feel, I always start with the big ones and if I get to go down, great,” she says. “It’s the same thing with dresses and clothing. I want to wear something that makes me feel gorgeous, not that makes me feel self-conscious about my body. Hiding insecurities or putting attention on the stuff that feels good is really the key…” Ultimately, though, when it comes to picking out her looks, she says “there’s no real method to my madness.” All she does, she says, is “ask what is the best thing out of my closet or the best thing on the rack that makes me feel good and fits.” More photos of Tracee’s recent looks inside! Chloe Lattanzi Talks about Her Anorexia and Body Dysmorphia

A while ago, we ran a story about 30 year-old singer Chloe Lattanzi and her issues with being called ‘stupid’ because of her looks – particularly her big boobs. This week, Chloe is back and she’s here to talk about her past struggles with anorexia and body dysmorphia. On her anorexia and body dysmorphia: After my parents divorce I went through this chubby phase. I would eat to comfort myself. I would see comments in magazines about how I was chubby. Around 16 I started to restrict food… along with the anorexia came OCD and depression. I didn’t have a clear sense of myself so I had my lips pumped up… I looked ridiculous. I got into using drugs and alcohol. I would read in the tabloids I was this alcoholic crazy disappointment. That really hit hard. I was at my lowest. Funnily enough I met the love of my life at the darkest time of my life. I still have my battles today. When I read these things that they say – having big breasts, not being thin enough, it’s like you can’t win no matter what you do. On the fact that she’s never had plastic surgery: There was rumors that I’ve had like work done, like plastic surgery on my face. Like I really haven’t. When I was in the height of my body dysmorphia I had a whole bunch of fillers. I’ve had all that removed from my face because I like the way I look naturally. On the constant struggle with her insecurities: I look back at myself as a teenager and I’m like ‘what a beautiful young woman, what was I thinking, why was I so secure?’ So many young girls are going through body dysmorphia. We’re constantly told how we’re supposed to look via Instagram and filters and there’s constant pressure for us to look person. … says Chloe. @robertlynden best shoot ever! I love you! Introducing NEW SVC Men: First Plus-Size Male Model Zach Miko

That’s right: from now on (as a result of many requests over the years), Skinny VS Curvy will feature, besides women and their wide range of body shapes and body image issues, MEN! And here we are, launching our new category with the first plus-size male model – Zach Miko, who was signed a few months back with ING Models, modeled for Target and became the image of a ‘brawn’ model or the equivalent of ‘curve’ for women. Zach’s stats: Age: 26 Height: 6ft 6in / 198cm Waist: 40in / 102cm On how society views men who have body image issues as un-masculine: I always had my own body-image struggle. With men, there is still a lot of bravado and false masculinity to get through. You’re not supposed to care about how you look. If you have issues, you aren’t supposed to talk about it. It’s considered weak or un-masculine. Which is stupid. It’s about having feelings that make you human. I think, even now with the progression, you still have that 1950s male mentality of men being strong and emotionless. If it makes men realise that it’s OK to care about how you look, or even feel bad about it and want to change … I have had [body] issues all my life and that can make you insecure. You project those feelings on to others and that can damage relationships. It creates this vicious cycle. It could all be avoided if you opened up and said I do or don’t feel good about myself. On the cause of his insecurities and trying to make people feel good about themselves: I was between diets and trying to change the way I look for so long. As an actor, I was told by every casting director that I was too big. But I think I was trying to make other people more comfortable. I have always been a big guy, I was picked on as a kid, and that’s where it came from. We live in a society where “big” and “fat” have become insults, and “skinny”, “little” and “petite” have become compliments. We have come to correlate a negative meaning with “big” and “fat”. On the fact that plus0sized people can be healthy: I am a big advocate of health. I just don’t think you have to be a twig to [be healthy]. Other people don’t have a right to project an idea of unhealthy on to you if you have this extra weight. I think labeling people as unhealthy is unfair. You don’t know what their health is. People think I’m a slob and that I don’t take care of myself. But I do. For starters, I cycle every day. But you do start to internalize that [feeling]. … says Zach. Miss Grand International Founder Told Beauty Queen Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir to ‘Stop Eating’

Trending body image story: Stunner Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, a 20-year-old former gymnast from Iceland, was literally told by Miss Grand International founder Nawat Itsaragrisil that she was too fat for pageants and that she should stop eating. Arna refused the unhealthy request and she stated that she thinks she is “fine as I am”. More details from The Sun: Arna Ýr reportedly received a jaw-dropping message from Nawat ahead of the competition’s grand finale, which takes place in Las Vegas on Tuesday. It read: “Stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest. “[Itsaragrisil] is telling you this because he likes you and wants you to do well in this contest.” A stunned Arna Ýr told The Iceland Monitor: “If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the Top 10. Yes, my shoulders are a bit broader than the other girls’ but that is because I was a member of the Icelandic national athletics team and I am proud of that. Of course, I don’t take these comments to heart, but to do my best then hear this… Personally, I think I’m fine as I am.” The Miss Grand International contest is one of the world’s five major international beauty pageants. Ariel Winter: “I developed these boobs and butt & I started getting all this hate”

Ariel Winter recently opened up about her journey in front of the critical eyes of her haters, who, since she developed ‘boobs and butt’, started to attack her constantly: Ariel Winter started out in Hollywood at just 11 years old. Naturally, as she got older, her body matured — and that, unfortunately, is where the Internet got ugly. “I was called every name in the book: fat, a slut, trashy, ugly,” she tells Stylish. But she’s not tolerating that talk anymore. She’s fighting back — and educating young girls in the process. “Right after I started developing, I automatically started getting all this hate. I developed these boobs and butt, and everything changed,” the Modern Family actress, 18, tells Stylish. “And as I got older, it only seemed to get worse.” That’s why she decided to partner with Dove on its 12-year-old confidence campaign, the Self Esteem Project, which aims to inspire girls through research, education and understanding of their bodies. “What I think is really amazing about it is that we’re empowering young women to love themselves, to be comfortable with themselves,” she says. “And it’s not just about [liking] what they look like, but loving who they are.” The Sofia the First star notes that 62 percent of young girls don’t know how to use the Internet to get the information that could help them understand that when it comes to bodies, each one is unique, and there’s no such thing as “right” or “wrong.” “We’re teaching them … so we can change the scape, so they don’t have to grow up the way I did,” Winter explains. “I read a lot of the stories young women will send me about their body positivity and their body journeys, and that really helps me,” she says. “There are a lot of young women who are going through the same thing that I went through, and I think it’s important that we all empower each other. It makes it easier.” More pictures of Ariel next!
