Johnny Depp refused to sell private jet to fix financial ruins

Call him Johnny DEBT from now on. Sorry. had to.  But it’s wildly amusing to read how crazy out of control Depp’s spending got and his equating paying his debts to selling his soul. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s desperate bid to climb out of debt was revealed as part of his ongoing $25 million lawsuit against his former business managers The Management Group and its principal Joel Mandel. Depp has accused them of mismanaging his money — but Mandel and TMG have countersued, saying the actor was aware of his dire situation the entire time. In an email exchange from December 2009 that was just made public, Mandel warned the cash-strapped “Edward Scissorhands” actor to “take it easy on holiday spending” and told him they need to meet to “look realistically at income and expenses and work together on how to make sure that these are back in balance,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The famous dad of two, 54, wrote back a day later, saying he was “doing my very best on holiday spending but there is only so much i can do, as i need to give my kiddies and famille [sic] as good a Christmas as possible, obviously within reason.” “What else can i do??? you want me to sell some art??? i will. you want me to sell something else??? sure… what???” Depp wrote. “i got bikes, cars, property, books, paintings and some semblance of a soul left. where would you like me to start???” But he was firm about not getting rid of his plane. “A commercial flight with paparazzis in tow would be a f—ing nightmare of monumental proportions,” he wrote. “I don’t like being in this situation, but there wasn’t a whole lot of choice, as THE RUM DIARY was a sacrifice we knew would be happening and the last proper paycheck was PUBLIC ENEMIES. i will do my best, joel,” Depp added. Depp made a combined $75 million from “The Tourist” in 2010, the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film and “Dark Shadows,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The award-winning actor has claimed his business managers squandered his Hollywood earnings by loaning out millions without his permission, failing to pay off other loans and incurring $8 million in unnecessary tax penalties. 2 Live Crew, Luther Campbell biopic in the works

Lionsgate is moving quickly on “The Book Of Luke,” a drama about the provocative hip hop group 2 Live Crew and its leader Luther Campbell, whose parody version of the Roy Orbison hit song “Oh Pretty Woman” went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court before a landmark ruling favored Campbell and paved the way for fair use sampling for music judged to be parody.   Craig A. Williams is writing the script, which will be developed for up-and-coming actor RJ Cyler to play Campbell in the film. Cyler played Earl in “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” and followed by playing the Blue Ranger in Lionsgate’s “Power Rangers” film, and more recently he plays a pivotal role in the Brad Pitt-starrer “War Machine” just released by Netflix. He’s currently filming “White Boy Rick.” “The Book of Luke” is based on the memoir “Book Of Luke: My Fight For Truth, Justice And Liberty City.” Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing with John Fischer overseeing the project for Temple Hill, and Mike Epps and Industry Entertainment exec producing. The film will tell a story that is “Straight Outta Compton” meets “The People Vs. Larry Flynt,” the rise of a provocative hip hop group and its envelope-pushing antics that got Campbell out of his poverty-stricken origins in Miami to become a millionaire and a galvanizing symbol of free speech. So Lohan is still getting work, go figure.   Alongside legit people, too. A British comedy called Sick Note hasn’t even aired episode 1, but it’s been picked up for season 2 and will add Lindsay Lohan to the roster. The six-part Season 1 follows Daniel Glass (Rupert Grint), a compulsive liar stuck in a failing relationship and dead-end insurance job, who is under the thumb of an irrepressible boss (Don Johnson). Just when things couldn’t get any worse, Daniel is wrongly diagnosed with a terminal illness by his incompetent doctor Ian Glennis (Nick Frost). When the error comes to light, Dr Glennis convinces Daniel to hide the truth of his misdiagnosis from colleagues, friends and family in a lie that spirals wildly out of control. Season 2 will pick up from the end of the first, with Lohan taking on the role of Katerina West, the daughter of Daniel’s boss. The actress has previously done guest appearances on various U.S. scripted series, including a four-episode stint on Ugly Betty. Groucho Marx Estate is Hollywood Legacy Home

The home on Sunset Plaza Drive received a Hollywood Regency-style facelift from seller Neel Devani and is now asking $4.2 million. An entity registered to Devani, a financier turned real-estate investor, purchased the property seven months ago for $3.45 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. He restored the original herringbone wood floors throughout the 3,703-square-foot home. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom estate also has a large swimmer’s pool, a cascading waterfall from an elevated spa and a shower room with steam and sauna areas. Marx, born Julius Henry Marx, was the host of game show “You Bet Your Life” and owned the home during the show’s early years. He sold it in 1959 for $35,000, according to the Journal. Juliet Zacarias of Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing. The post Groucho Marx Estate is Hollywood Legacy Home appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Adam Scott and Craig Robinson’s bromance is coming to TV

Adam Scott and Craig Robinson are TV’s newest odd couple. The pair — who Robinson says met at a party many years ago — are starring in the upcoming Fox comedy “Ghosted,” about two guys taking on paranormal activity together. “We loved working together [on ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’],” Scott told Page Six at the ATX TV Festival on Thursday, “So when this popped up … it was like, ‘Oh, this is a perfect thing to do with Craig because I love those ’80s action comedies’ … ‘Midnight Run,’ ‘Beverly Hills Cop,’ ’48 Hours,’ all those movies mean a tremendous amount to all of us.” Scott continued, “It’s an opportunity to both pay tribute and live out childhood fantasies of running around in an action comedy with a hilarious, awesome dude by my side.” Of Scott and Robinson’s obvious bromance, executive producer Tom Gormican added, “They are an odd couple, but they are really good friends and that’s a chemistry that’s difficult to create. It’s great to use that.” So far, they’ve only shot the pilot episode, but in seven weeks they will get back to work filming the last nine of the season. “Ghosted” is set to premiere in the fall on Fox.
