Coronavirus causes Art Basel to cancel Hong Kong fair

Those who know me know I live for Art Basel Miami each year.  But I don’t talk as much about the original fair in Basel, Switzerland or it’s other chapter in Hong Kong.  Each is every bit has important to the art world as our branch here in the states.  No one is off the 2020 roster. Art Basel canceled the HK show in March because of the city’s ongoing protests and the coronavirus emergency. “Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent coronavirus outbreak around the world,” Basel global director Marc Spiegler said in a statement, calling the decision “extremely difficult.” “We explored every other possible option before” canceling, he said. The fair has promised it will return in 2021. The Hong Kong Art Gallery Association released a statement in January encouraging Art Basel to hold the fair, but a number of international galleries had called for its cancellation. Bobbi Kristina’s fiancé Nick Gordon overdosed on heroin

The toxicology report is back in the death of Nick Gordon. One of the many tragic deaths that just seem to be part of being associated with the Brown framily. According to the toxicology and autopsy report obtained by TMZ, Narcan, a drug used to treat individuals who have overdosed on opioids, was also present in his system. Gordon was already in cardiac arrest on New Year’s Day when a 911 call — that said Gordon had “black stuff coming out of his mouth” and was not breathing — was placed. Police arrived at the Maitland, Fla., Sheraton where Gordon was staying around 5:15 a.m. and brought him to Altamonte Springs Hospital, where he died seven hours later. TMZ notes that “black discharge is sometimes related to a foam cone that comes out of the mouth and nostrils after an opioid OD,” and reports at the time noted that Gordon was a prolific drug user. Gordon and Brown’s friend, Max Lomas, who lived with the two intermittently and found her body unconscious in the bathtub of her Georgia home in January 2015, died of a fentanyl overdose in August 2018. Gordon was found legally liable in the death of Brown, 22. Morphine, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs were found in her system at the time. Brown, the daughter of singers Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston — who herself drowned in a bathtub in February 2012 — died after six months in hospice care. Police investigated Gordon in conjunction with her death, but he was never charged, though Brown’s family won a $36 million wrongful death civil suit against Gordon for her death. Rush Limbaugh says he has Advanced Lung Cancer

Ornery old boomer talk show host Rush Limbaugh spent his career tearing down others to scare a society into hanging on his every word.   But I digress.  He has come down with cancer. Rush announced on his radio show Monday that he has “advanced lung cancer” and treatment for the potentially deadly condition will cause him to miss some shows. The talk-show host, considered one of the most influential conservatives in the media for three decades, said he sought help from doctors after experiencing shortness of breath. Limbaugh gave no indication his life was in danger and, in fact, said he’d miss his show on Tuesday and Wednesday but planned to return on Thursday, though a tweet from his producer, Bo Snerdley, was a bit more dire. “Those of you who are listening to the Rush Limbaugh show now. Pray with us. Thank you. God Bless you Rush Limbaugh. Love you so much Rush,” Snerdley tweeted. Limbaugh took his radio show national 31 years ago and recently signed a four-year extension, which prompted a congratulatory mention from President Donald Trump. “We have great people. Rush just signed another four-year contract. Disney pays $75 million for rights to “Hamilton”!

In what may be the most expensive film right acquisition on the books, Disney has gone all in on the world wide distribution rights to the uber hot broadway hit! Disney beat out other suitors and paid $75 million for worldwide rights to the show that won 11 Tony Awards in 2016, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Disney won the deal with a commitment for a wide global theatrical release for the 2 hour, 40 minute movie, which was shot two weeks before the original cast left. Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted the news Monday that the movie adaptation of his groundbreaking Broadway show Hamilton was set for release by Disney in fall 2021. Disney presents: Hamilton.
