Michael Jordan’s first-ever Air Jordan sneakers sell for $560,000 at auction

A pair of sneakers worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan in his rookie season in the NBA have fetched a record $560,000 in an online auction, Sotheby’s said. The autographed Air Jordan 1s, designed for Jordan in 1985 and the first-ever signature sneakers, were expected to fetch between $100,000 to $150,000 in the auction that closed on Sunday. Known for selling multimillion-dollar art, Sotheby’s held its first auction dedicated entirely to sneakers last year and had then set a world record of $437,500 for a pair of 1972 Nike running shoes known as the “Moon Shoe”. Like most of Jordan’s basketball shoes, they are a mismatched pair in a size 13 (left) and size 13.5 (right). The auction coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan brand and the screening of the 10-part ESPN documentary The Last Dance about the Chicago Bulls and Jordan. U2’s Bono is sharing his ‘life saving’ playlist

U2’s Bono is sharing what he calls the 60 songs that saved his life in time to celebrate his 60th birthday.  The frontman posted the songs to the bands website. He even says he is writing a fan letter to the bands and singers who grace the list, to show his appreciation. “These are some of the songs that saved my life…” Bono wrote. “The ones that I couldn’t have lived without. The ones that got me from there to here, zero to 60, through all the scrapes, all manner of nuisance. From the seriously to the silly… and the joy, mostly joy. “I wanted to thank the artists and everyone who helped make them. They were doing the same for me. I am writing a fan letter to accompany each song to try and explain my fascination.” Billy Eilish and her song writing brother, Finneas, he wrote; “My ears long for such empty spaces to wander… to sneak away from the density of digital surfaces with too much information. “I step inside your song and it’s a black beauty, achingly awesomely vulnerable and terrifying, fearless and worrisome… but you are not worried by that. You express it so you can own the feeling that nags.” Wow. You don’t have to love U2 to acknowledge there place in music history.
