Last Friday, the Duchess of Cambridge attended Day 5 of Wimbledon. She played around in the AELTC’s kitchen, she watched a men’s doubles match on the outer courts, plus she stuck around for some of the Center Court matches, sitting in the Royal Box. Kate actually followed the All-England mask rules, which is that club members, guests and players have to stay masked up as they walk around the courts and the grounds, but everyone can be maskless while they’re seated courtside to watch matches. The mask rule doesn’t make much sense, but I guess most people attending Wimbledon have already been vaccinated, so it is what it is. Except that during her day at Wimbledon, Kate was exposed to Covid and now she’s self-isolating.
The Duchess of Cambridge is having to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who later tested positive for coronavirus, Kensington Palace has said. Kate was due to spend the day with William celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the NHS at two events but will now spend a period of self-isolation at home.
The couple had planned to attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral in honour of the health service, and in the afternoon host a “Big Tea” at Buckingham Palace for NHS staff, in their roles as joint patrons of NHS Charities Together.
Kensington Palace said: “Last week the Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.”
Kate’s last public event was a visit to Wimbledon on Friday, when she toured the venue, meeting staff in the museum and the Centre Court kitchen and sitting with the former tennis star Tim Henman to watch Jamie Murray play in the doubles. The duchess, patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and a keen tennis fan, is now likely to miss the men’s and women’s final at the weekend.
Well, they don’t say it was the trip to Wimbledon specifically. The only other “event” Kate did last week was attend the football match with George and William. If she was exposed at the football game, George and William would have been exposed as well and they would also be in isolation, correct? So I guess they’re saying it was definitely her trip to Wimbledon. I wonder if Tim Henman is isolating too? And the Duke of Kent. Kate was seated next to both of them at various points on Friday. Anyway, sad that she probably won’t be able to attend Wimbledon again this year.
And although last year didn’t take place, the AELTC have continued to do incredible work within their local community. Through Wingfield Kitchen, they were able to provide 200 hot meals per day, for a whole year, to those in need. #Wimbledon pic.twitter.com/A38cmzs9Dv
