Cannes: Jennifer Lawrence wore vintage Dior, Amal Clooney wore Galliano

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson arrived in Cannes to promote their film, Die, My Love. Given Rob and J-Law’s chemistry and rizz, you would hope that someone would put them together for a sweet romance or a comedy. Nope – this film is an adaptation of a novel about a woman with postpartum depression, and the depression turns into psychosis. For the big Cannes premiere, Jennifer got to wear a beautiful piece from the Dior archives – this is a 1949 gown and it’s fine. I’m sure it’s beautiful in person, where you can see the artistry of it, but in photos, it just looks sort of flat and simple. It just occurred to me that messy Cannes organizers scheduled Sparkles and Kristen Stewart on consecutive nights. LOL.

Emma Stone needs to get the hell out of her Louis Vuitton ambassadorship. Either that, or LV’s designers need to stop listening to Emma’s ideas. She wore this “custom” piece on the red carpet on Friday and I’m aghast that LV even wants their name on it. She’s wearing a BIB! Is this Louis Vuitton by way of Red Lobster??

Natalie Portman wore custom Christian Dior. Eh, it’s not my favorite and I don’t think it does much for Natalie, but overall, it’s fine.

Kristen Stewart in custom Chanel. I’m sorry, but this sucks!! You’re making an atelier like CHANEL make board shorts and a baseball cap for your Cannes premiere?? Please, stop.

An unexpected “princess” look for Rooney Mara, who wore a custom Givenchy Couture. She looks nice, but one day, I would love to see her in a print.

Amal Clooney attended the Bono: Stories Of Surrender premiere on Friday. She went solo to the premiere, and she wore John Galliano with Cartier jewelry. Interesting, I guess. I’ve been getting a vibe about her marriage for a minute, but I’ll bite my tongue for the moment. I will say this – she has really terrible posture. I used to think that she slouched because she didn’t want to tower over her husband, but now I realize that she just refuses to stand up straight.

Rooney Mara is expecting her second child with Joaquin Phoenix

Guess who’s knocked up again?? Rooney Mara appeared at the Berlin Film Festival to promote her latest film, La Cocina, and she revealed her bump at the premiere. Rooney is still with Joaquin Phoenix and they might even be married (he’s referred to Rooney as his wife in a couple of interviews). They welcomed their son River in 2020, which surprised me because I thought that was just last year or something. But no, they have a three-and-a-half year old running around the house and now a second one on the way. By the way, Rooney’s maternity sack dress is amazing. I love maternity sack dresses, they always look so comfortable.

As for her film, La Cocina is based on Arnold Wesker’s play The Kitchen. The film is directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios and Variety called it “an anti-food-p-rn movie.” Alonso said: “I wanted to show the other side of the food industry where expediency is more important than the quality of the food. It’s a metaphor for corporate capitalism.” At Rooney’s festival press conference, she spoke about how she chooses projects nowadays, which is to choose by directors only.

I used to sort of worry about Rooney & Joaquin’s relationship and wonder if they drove each other crazy with their weirdness and idiosyncrasies but over the course of their eight-year-long relationship, I think Rooney has stabilized him completely. They live quietly in the Hollywood Hills, they make vegan food together, they watch Netflix and mind their business. And now they’ll soon have two kids!

Ana de Armas wore a ‘stained glass’ Louis Vuitton to the VF Oscar party

Ana De Armas changed into this custom Louis Vuitton dress for the post-Oscar parties. I would think that we’re supposed to see “stained glass windows.” It’s not bad and hey, it does look comfortable. It’s just a slipdress with an interesting fabric. The cutest was when Ana saw Ke Huy Quan on the VF carpet and they gave each other a big hug. From the looks of things, Ana is a big EEAAO stan and she was rooting for all of those actors. Plus, I think everyone who was part of this awards season fell in love with Ke – he made everyone smile and he was hugging everybody.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton – um, real talk, Sophie looks GREAT. I love when a pale redhead goes witchy, and this is very witchy.

Janelle Monáe in bespoke AREA. I mean… she’s not wearing any underwear or anything. How are you going to the VF party with no drawers on?? Still, she has a gorgeous figure.

Rooney Mara, I think this is McQueen? I am truly so mad about her style at the Oscars and here at the VF party. I loathe this, even if I want to give her credit for at least trying to wear something other than off-white or black.

Lily James in Versace. It’s been done a million times but she looks good. It feels like something Kim Kardashian wore a decade ago.

Fan Bingbing in silver and pink – I don’t like this but I also think…it’s fine. It is what it is. She looks like a vintage movie star, honestly.

Nicole Kidman wore Armani to the 2023 Oscars: surprisingly great?

Nicole Kidman only attended the Oscars as a presenter – she wasn’t in any of the nominated films or anything. I enjoy “presenter Nicole” – she comes out to have fun, and if you told me she took an edible or had a few shots before the Oscars carpet, I would believe you. Nicole wore Armani – this dress grew on me throughout the night and I ended up really liking it.

Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen. What an awful dress in general, and specifically on Rooney. This is one of my picks for worst dress. I’m so tired of her washed-out BS.

Andrea Riseborough in Alexander McQueen. Well, she was certainly part of the bridal trend!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Lanvin. I haaaated this too. Julia is a lovely, petite woman – it shouldn’t be this hard to find something flattering?

Eva Longoria in Zuhair Murad. Eva has this thing where she always looks exactly the same no matter what she’s wearing or how she’s styled. While this is a different silhouette than she usually prefers, it looks… the same as everything else she wears.

Rooney Mara wore a vintage Givenchy look at the Spirit Awards: shocking??!

I hope you guys understand how shocking it is to see Rooney Mara in RED. Ever since Rooney broke through in the English-language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, her red carpet style has been very goth, very severe, and she rarely deviates from a neutral (usually dark-neutral) color palette. If she wants to mix it up, she’ll wear white or beige. But at the Spirit Awards this weekend, Rooney wore… RED. A vintage Givenchy look. Those are pants, and a grandma-style oversized tunic/cardi. She looks fantastic. Now I’m mad that she hasn’t been wearing red this whole time, because that’s her color.

Claire Foy, Rooney’s Women Talking costar, wore Carolina Herrera. Simple, uneventful.

Jessie Buckley wore Dior. She’s so talented and I love that she’s breaking through. I like a hooded dress as well.

Danielle Deadwyler in Chanel. This is a great look. One of the few times I’ve seen someone pull off “Chanel feathers.”

Jenny Slate in Thom Browne. I like the suit a lot but all of the detailing veers towards “too fussy.”

Never forget that Malala Yousafzai kept talking about never wanting to get married and then two seconds later she met Asser Malik and she was like “nevermind.” A true queen!

Rooney Mara set to play Audrey Hepburn in a new bio-pic: love it or hate it?

AudreyRooney2

I’m still not over Nicole Kidman’s completely bonkers portrayal of Lucille Ball, but now I need to shift my focus to this: Rooney Mara as Audrey Hepburn. Apple is producing a feature film about Audrey Hepburn’s life, and Rooney Mara has signed on as the star and producer. Here are the details:

Apple has landed another big feature project, that being an Audrey Hepburn biopic which Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino will helm, with 2x Oscar nominee Rooney Mara set to play The Breakfast at Tiffany‘s legendary actress.

Deadline has learned separately that Mara is also producing the feature project, which Michael Mitnick, the EP of HBO series Vinyl is writing. The movie reps Mara’s third producing credit after the documentary The End of Medicine and The Truth About Emmanuel.

Apple Studios is producing. Apple’s heads of worldwide video Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht and head of features Matt Dentler continue their momentum in building big screen fare for the streamer.

[From Deadline]

I’ll be honest, I actually do think Rooney looks somewhat Audrey-ish. People on Twitter are saying Lily Collins would have been a great choice, and I agree, although I think Rooney is probably a better actress. Both women are delicate beauties with similar features to Audrey, and Lily has those large, dark, Bambi eyes which are very reminiscent of Audrey’s eyes. The thing that I’m catching on about Rooney’s casting isn’t so much the look but the vibe. Audrey had that sparkle, the inner vivacity and sweetness. Rooney just seems like an awkward, morose goth chick compared to Hepburn. I know, I know, “acting” and all of that, but does Rooney have the range?

Bradley Cooper Fashion Irina Shayk Rooney Mara

Irina Shayk went to the NYC ‘Nightmare Alley’ premiere to support Bradley Cooper

Nightmare Alley premiere

Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have been spending a lot of time together recently, so much so that a lot of people are speculating that they’re back together. Page Six had a recent exclusive about how B-Coop and Irina spent Thanksgiving together in New York, with Irina spending the day at Bradley’s home but she didn’t spend the night. They also took their daughter to the Nutcracker last weekend, and they’ve just been hanging out a lot in recent weeks. Part of it is just their co-parenting vibe, for sure. They stayed on good terms following their split, and they both seem like loving, hands-on parents to Lea. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they were actually back together already, or headed in that direction.

I expect Bradley to play around with “are they back together or nah” a lot in the next few weeks and months. He’s currently promoting Nightmare Alley, Guillermo del Toro’s new film. Bradley is the lead, and as always, he’s on the hunt for an Oscar. A romantic reconciliation with Irina would definitely be a PR boost! Speaking of, there was a premiere/screening for Nightmare Alley last night in New York. Bradley was there, as was Rooney Mara (who is also in the movie). Guess who showed up to support her baby-daddy? Irina. She looked very sexy too! Still, Irina and B-Coop didn’t pose together. Because why sell this renewed romance at a dinky screening when they could save it for one of the big awards shows?? Apparently, Bradley was asked about Irina’s presence at the premiere and he said it was “very special” to have her there. Nice.

PS… Rooney wore Alexander McQueen to the premiere!
