| No tailgating for Super Bowl 2013? |
Wow, way to be a buzz kill, Super Bowl XLVIII Committee!
The headline is for real. Tailgating, a favorite American past time, will NOT be allowed at this year’s Super Bowl, which is set for February 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
But not only will there be no tailgating, there will also be no taxi or limo arrivals.
Here’s the scoop from Sports Illustrated’s NFL blog:
Committee CEO Al Kelly told ESPN.com’s Jane McManus: “You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you’re in the boundaries of a single parking space, you’ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However you’re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you’re not going to be able to take out a grill and you’re not going to be able to take up more than one parking space.”
Sourpusses! That’s anti-American!
Fans will not be allowed to park and walk to the East Rutherford, N.J. stadium; nor will they be able to arrive via taxi or limo, because only vehicles with parking passes will be allowed near the premises.
This sounds like a football fan’s nightmare.
I can’t wait to see how creative the fans get with the tailgating. Think about it, the rules state you can do anything you want in your parking space, so have at it, fellas! Just think vertical more than horizontal. Stack. Bungee. Weld.
Football fans are the most intense, loyal fans ever, and they take their tailgating very, very seriously. So Super Bowl XLVIII Committee, I doubt seriously that you’re going to stop them.
