Stone Temple Pilots has come to the decision of firing their lead singer, Scott Weiland.
The group, which has been together off-and-on for over 20 years, released a brief statement today (Wednesday) saying: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” And that’s it, with no other explanation…at least for now, but something tells me it has to do with Weiland’s addiction issues, which he has been known to struggle with. Purely a guess though.
TMZ pointed out that just yesterday, Weiland, 45, told Rolling Stone that he wasn’t planning on leaving the band and the group had no intentions of breaking up. He told the magazine, “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired.”
Apparently, just a couple months ago Slash got rumors flying of the band’s demise when he said STP fired the lead singer.
STP seems like they’ve been around forever, right? I grew up with those guys! If this is true, how on Earth are they going to go on without Weiland? He is the voice, but in all honesty, if he’s still plagued by personal demons the band still wouldn’t be able to go on successfully. Along with that, Weiland still has his ongoing solo career and on-an-off-again relationship with his other band Velvet Revolver.
We’ll keep you updated!
UPDATE: Scott Weiland released the following statement on his Facebook page this morning:
“I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”
