Kaepernick’s Rookie Jersey is coming to auction

Colin Kaepernick, the football player who arguably started the BLM movement, began his professional career in 2011 with the San Fransisco 49ers.   And now the jersey he wore that first season is coming up for auction at the famed Juliens auction house. The jersey, which is signed by Kaepernick, was worn by the quarterback on Oct. 2, 2011, when he entered the 49ers’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first quarter. The seller wishes to remain anonymous. Kaepernick, 32, has since become one of the most prominent and controversial sports figures in the United States. “He’s a cultural icon. He’s up there now with Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson – somebody that’s using their fame to make a peaceful, powerful statement to highlight and bring attention to inequalities,” Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions, told Reuters. The auction isn’t till December (we’ll totally be keeping an eye on it) and experts are saying it could go for $100,000. Which, per usual, I consider WAaaaaYYYyy under it’s potential.  Mark me down for nothing under $500k. Adam Levine promises a Super Bowl half-time show ‘message’

Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine has responded to critics who urged the band to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick by not to performing at Super Bowl LIII, with the singer hinting that the halftime show will include a social message.   ‘I’m not in the right profession if I can’t handle a little bit of controversy. It is what it is, we expected it,’ Levine said in an interview on Thursday with Entertainment Tonight, three days ahead of the big game in Atlanta. ‘We’d like to move on with it, and like I said earlier, speak though the music,’ Levine said of the band’s plans for Sunday’s championship game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. Maroon 5 came under scrutiny when a petition signed by more than 113,000 fans demanded that they withdraw from performing at the Super Bowl to support Kaepernick and other players who kneel during the national anthem.  It should be interesting to see. Travis Scott spoke with Kaepernick before confirming Super Bowl gig

News that Travis Scott would be performing with Maroon 5 at the Super Bowl first leaked out in December, but three weeks passed before the performance was officially announced. That announcement only came after Scott announced that he and the NFL would donate $500,000 to the nonprofit social justice organization Dream Corps. The move was clearly intended to blunt the criticism Maroon 5 and particularly Scott had received for performing at the game, due largely to the league’s treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has essentially been banished from professional football for taking a knee during the pre-game performances of the national anthem, a move many feel is based in racism. Scott and Kaepernick had at least one phone conversation before the rapper confirmed his Super Bowl appearance, sources tell Variety. A source close to Scott said that while the two did not necessarily agree, they emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding, with the rapper taking the stance that everyone makes a statement in their own way and he felt that the money going toward Dream Corps, combined with the platform provided by the Super Bowl, will do some good. The source also said that Scott would not confirm his performance until the donation was locked in.
