Joan Rivers autopsy results revealed

We know Joan Rivers died as a result of something that went on during her throat surgery at a New York City clinic, but now the official results of the autopsy have been revealed, and they shed a bit more light on what actually happened that day. From TMZ: Joan Rivers died because she went into hypoxic arrest during her throat procedure … cutting off oxygen to her brain — but the medical examiner is calling it a “predictable complication.” The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner released its findings today, revealing that Joan was sedated with Propofol during the procedure. The investigation also revealed Joan had the procedure to evaluate changes in her voice and to deal with acid reflux. Joan suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen. As for the “predictable complication” … it appears the Examiner is saying her cause of death is simply a risk associated with either anesthesia, the procedure, or both. While I understand that she was old and therefore a high risk patient to begin with, that still doesn’t clear the people at the clinic from doing an unauthorised biopsy and all of that shit. Is that not when she went into hypoxic arrest? I still think an investigation needs to be done here – especially considering employees were taking selfies with her unconscious body – but I think the conclusion will end up being that it was just her time to go. Howard Stern opens up about delivering Joan Rivers’ eulogy

Howard Stern was invited to delivery the eulogy at Joan Rivers‘ funeral, and he couldn’t have been a more perfect fit. The pair had been friends for years, and Stern was able to bring levity to a very sad situation. He later talked about the experience on his Sirius XM radio show (via US Weekly). “You know, to be at her funeral yesterday was really probably the most remarkable service I have ever witnessed,” Stern, 60, told listeners. “Beautiful temple. I have never been there before [and] it was magnificent. I’ve never seen anything like it. Just sitting in there made you reflective. And so, I got there early because I had gotten a call from [Joan’s daughter] Melissa like a day and a half before the service, asking me if I would speak. I said to her, ‘Melissa you’re asking the wrong guy.’ Still, he agreed to speak before Rivers’ friends and family. “I said, ‘I’ll do it. I will do anything for Joan. I’ll do anything for you.’” To prepare for the moment, Stern immediately sought advice from another fellow comic. “I was in touch with Louie C.K. and he’d written me and he said, ‘You know, Joan really deserves a great sendoff because of her impact.’ He said something very profound: ‘Joan was like an aunt or a best friend who could make everything better. And even in times… after lets just say 9/11 or the country just seems to be going downhill or things just seem to be bad… she would crack a joke, and you know this is true, when she would crack a joke, you didn’t feel so alone. You felt like we were all together and you felt like oh maybe things aren’t so bad.’” “Louie said probably the loneliness and the unhappiness of life — what else could ease that despair than a great comedian? That’s what great comedians do. Great comedians have the ability to snap you out of this sadness, this loneliness…to set it all right again and she was really really a top pro.” Stern also revealed that he was particularly moved by a performance given at the service by none other than Hugh Jackman, which… okay! (I had NO idea they were friends at all.) “It was one of Joan’s favorites,” Stern said. “He starts singing it quietly and part of the song is clap your hands together. He made everyone get up and start clapping their hands to the song. I was so f—ing moved by this guys performance. I had tears. Now, you know me. I’m a big scumbag. I don’t get moved. I appreciated this guy so much. Hugh Jackman. You know f—ing Wolverine.” Sounds like it was a fantastic celebration of Rivers’ life for those who knew and loved her. Follow us on Twitter | Facebook

Kelly Osbourne is heartbroken over the death of Joan Rivers

The death of Joan Rivers has hit the entertainment world hard, but one of the fellow celebrities most affected by her passing is Kelly Osbourne, who has worked with Joan on E!’s Fashion Police for the past several years and grew close to the comedian both personally and professionally. Here’s what Kelly wrote on her Facebook page after hearing the news: I’m completely heartbroken by the loss of my beloved Joan. Not only was she my boss, she was and will always be my teacher, therapist, closest friend, inspiration and the only grandmother I ever knew. She was family and I will never forget her. Laughter will be difficult for a while but when I’m sad, lonely or upset all I will have to do is think of Joan and a smile will cross my face. Laughter is what she gave us and laughter is what she would want us to do in remembrance of her. Melissa and Cooper, my thoughts are with you and I love you both so much. Joan, thank you for taking me in and loving me as a daughter. I will miss you deeply and will always hear your voice in my head saying ‘my darling get out there and be you!’ Very sad and very unexpected. Hollywood will never be quite the same, that’s for sure! Joan Rivers is being brought out of her coma

Things are still pretty touch-and-go with Joan Rivers, whose health has been in critical condition since she stopped breathing during a routine procedure last week. But the latest reports are that she’s being brought out of her medically-induced coma in a process that will take several days. Once Joan is fully awake, doctors will be able to assess what damage she has suffered – and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed. From the New York Daily News: “The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday,” a source close to the family told the Daily News. “There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.” And that has the family considering a lawsuit. “Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame,” said a source close to the family, hinting at action against Yorkville Endoscopy, where Rivers had a routine throat procedure on Thursday. “The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support,” the source continued. “An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill advised.” It’s really a shame that this has happened, and crazy how quickly life can change – literally. Joan has apparently said that she would never want to be a burden on anyone and would only want to live if she could live an active and healthy life. I guess it remains to be seen what will happen here. Follow us on Twitter | Facebook

Joan Rivers in medically induced coma after she stops breathing during surgery

Yesterday, Joan Rivers was rushed to hospital after she stopped breathing during a surgery she was having on her vocal chords at a New York City clinic. She’s 81, so obviously procedures like this pose a greater danger, and it’s still unclear whether she’s going to be alright, though she is said to be in stable condition. At the moment, she’s apparently in a medically-induced coma and her daughter Melissa has rushed to her side. From People: “I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother,” Melissa said in a statement. “She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.” It seems like she had a pretty close call here, as some reports have even said that her heart stopped beating momentarily! Hopefully she’s alright and pulls through this without any lasting damage having been done. Follow us on Twitter | Facebook
