Mindy Kaling wore Gaurav Gupta to the Met Gala: one of the best looks?

Yes, I’ve complained a lot about how many women wore sand/beige, but I have to say, Mindy Kaling was probably one of my favorite looks of the Met Gala. She wore this epic, sculptural Gaurav Gupta. She said it’s supposed to be “the melting flower of time”. It was great from every angle and while I definitely think it would have worked in a different color, this looked wonderful on her.

Lily James wore a custom Erdem. I loved the simplicity of this, honestly. It feels like a lot of women were overthinking the themes and Lily was just like “no, a simple dress with a minimalist floral.”

Demi Lovato’s Prabal Gurung was another one I unexpectedly enjoyed. Demi had not gone to a Met Gala since 2018 (Demi suggested that they came close to relapsing right after that one). This Gurung was really fun!

Lea Michele wore Rodarte and this was the debut of her baby bump (she’s expecting her second). This was one of the cheapest-looking dresses on the carpet.

Fashion Jessica Chastain Jodie Comer Lea Michele Lin-Manuel Miranda Lupita Nyong’O Rachel Brosnahan Tatiana Maslany Tony Awards

Who was best-dressed at last night’s Tony Awards: Jessica Chastain or Lupita?

Here are some photos from last night’s Tony Awards. The Writers Guild had to give the Tony Award producers special permission to go on, but the catch was that the striking writers could not write the awards patter for the show. That led to a chaotic awards show, but still, it’s funny that the show was allowed to go on even in the middle of a writers’ strike and what feels like an incoming actors’ strike. No matter what, “awards shows matter” to the entertainment community. Kimberly Akimbo won the Tony for Best Musical, Leopoldstadt won best play. Jodie Comer – in her Broadway debut – won the Best Actress Tony for Prima Facie and Sean Hayes won Best Actor. You can see more about the awards here.

Jessica Chastain made the case that the hair stylists might be on strike too – she wore this very dated-looking Gucci gown in sunshine yellow, but her hair looked like she just pulled it back to wash off her makeup.

Jodie Comer looked amazing in Thom Browne.

Lea Michele wore Emilia Wickstead and she LOST. Not only did she lose, she watched as Alex Newell (a former Glee costar) become the first nonbinary performer to win a Tony.

Lupita Nyong’o wore Misha Japanwala – that’s a metal breastplate, it’s not Lupita just spray-painting her chest.

Lin Manuel Miranda and his wife. Such an attractive couple.

Rachel Brosnahan in Versace. Unexpected and pretty good.

Uzo Aduba is expecting her first child! Congrats to her!

Tatiana Maslany looked awful!

Michelle Williams supported her husband Thomas Kail – I love Michelle’s dress here.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors at the Met Gala: goofy or not too bad?

I was looking through Michael Kors’ looks at the previous Met Galas and he’s usually quite good. Ciara wore a zebra print MK gown last year that was amazing and at the fall 2021 Met Gala Regina King had on a pinstriped dress that I loved. He dressed Emily Blunt in 2019 in a scalloped sequin gold gown that I inexplicably liked back then, re-reading what I wrote about it. I think I was tired and being generous. Kors’s designs can definitely be goofy though, like this year when he put Blunt in a lace and black metallic pantsuit with a train. The topper is that ridiculous bow with the flower tacked on to it. I get that the bows were a nod to Lagerfeld, but there were so many fug interpretations of that! Poor Emily, but it’s not like she has great fashion typically so I suspect she was OK with it. During their red carpet interview with Vogue, Kors told an anecdote about Lagerfeld asking him why he’s always so tan. He said he gets out on the sun whenever he can! There’s got to be a lot of makeup involved too.

Kerry Washington got the better MK look, although that bar is low. She was in a lace and tulle fishtail gown with a bandeau top and a tuxedo jacket.

Also in Michael Kors were Lea Michele, Vanessa Hudgens, Camilla Marrone and Kaitlyn Dever. Vanessa , Lea and Kaitlyn were interviewed by La La Anthony and Lea told La La she lived in her old house in New York City and that she gets packages for La La every day. I wonder if they arranged to meet up afterwards for an exchange. My favorite gown out of this group was Vanessa Hudgens’s, but I usually like what she’s wearing.

Jane Lynch supports Lea Michele’s Broadway comeback: ‘I adore her’

I know Kaiser is the resident psychic here at CB but I’m making a prediction: there will be a Broadway show spoofing the shenanigans going on with Funny Girl. It’s all just so drama, my loves. And it started long before the curtain went up at the August Wilson Theater. Unfortunately, the currently plot involves the mean girl, Lea Michele, having her wildest dreams come true when she steps into the role of Fanny Brice. A lot of us took comfort in the fact that Lea’s great triumph was being rained on by Sue Sylvester herself when Jane Lynch announced she, too, was leaving the production at the same time as Beanie Feldstein. Sure, it’s not uncommon for leads to leave a show at the same time. But in this case, with Lea and Jane having worked together on Glee, it looked like Jane was exiting so she didn’t have to share a moment of stage time with La Lea. However, after receiving an Emmy nomination for her guest appearance on Only Murders in the Building, Jane quashed our fun by saying she was thrilled for Lea and that she absolutely adored her. Humph.

Jane Lynch is looking forward to Lea Michele’s version of Funny Girl.

After star Beanie Feldstein revealed Sunday that she’d be leaving the Broadway musical revival earlier than expected, the Funny Girl production announced Monday that her replacement as Fanny Brice would be Michele. Additionally, Lynch’s role as Brice’s mom will soon be filled by Tovah Feldshuh.

Michele has a previous connection to Funny Girl. Not only has she been outspoken about her love for Barbra Streisand — who originated the role in 1964 — but her Glee character Rachel Berry played the role of Brice in a fictional revival of the show, singing many of the musical’s iconic songs on the Fox series including “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

In an interview with Deadline Tuesday about her outstanding guest actress in a comedy Emmy nomination for Only Murders in the Building, Lynch, 61, addressed the casting news. She said she and her former Glee costar “have been in touch about it.”

“You know, it was just a really strong idea to have Feldshuh and Lea premiere together. That’s the only reason [we won’t appear together]. I adore her,” she said of Michele. “She’s just going to take this show and make it her own.”

Added Lynch, “I’m so glad she’s getting the opportunity in real life to do the show and not just on Glee.”

[From People]

“She’s just going to take this show and make it her own,” – yeah, that’s what her cast is afraid of. So this is Jane official word, that pairing Lea and Tovah Feldshuh together and having them start at the same time is in the best interest of the play. However, because this is a gossip site, we get to interpret the situation as we see fit. And let’s face it, it’s just much more fun to acknowledge the fact that Jane can say whatever she wants to appear diplomatic, the fact is, she will not have to put up with Lea or her BS because she’s getting the hell out of there.

Now, should Jane be diplomatic? Because Lea is problematic and this whole situation is starting to get an odor to it. It’s possible Jane’s trying to smooth the way for Tovah, who seems to be the only innocent. If Jane pointed out everything wrong with letting Lea and her carpetbag of micro-aggressions in the building, Tovah doesn’t look great appearing next to her. But Jane nixed that theory by saying she adored Lea. Maybe Jane was high on her nomination and forgot all the reasons she shouldn’t say that. Or maybe Jane really does adore Lea and hasn’t been paying attention to everything that’s been said about her, which isn’t a great look for Jane. Who knows? I guess we’ll have to wait until the future Tony-winning show, What’s Going On in August? It’s Funny, Girl! opens.

People aren’t happy about racist bully Lea Michele’s ‘Funny Girl’ redemption arc

Here’s the second part to the Funny Girl/Beanie Feldstein/Lea Michele drama. Beanie Feldstein had been playing Fanny Brice, the lead role in Funny Girl, for several months. The reviews were bad and the writing was on the wall: Beanie would have to go. Beanie ended up quitting/getting fired from the production last week, and her understudy Julie Benko will take over the role to fulfill Beanie’s six-month contract. Then, in the beginning of September, Lea Michele will take over as Fanny Brice. When Beanie was cast, people clowned on Lea pretty hard because the role of Fanny is practically made for Lea, and it’s always been her dream to star in a Funny Girl revival. The fact that producers got Lea after Beanie turned out to be a disaster… well, it’s interesting on a lot of different levels.

Now, at some point, Broadway producers might stop and think: yes, Lea Michele is right for the role of Fanny Brice, but what about all of those well-documented stories about Lea’s racism, aggression, verbal threats and bullying behavior? It was just two years ago (!!) that Samantha Marie Ware came out and said that Lea’s unprofessional behavior included many “traumatic microaggressions,” including threatening to sh-t in Ware’s wig. Lea did offer a really f–ked up and awful apology to all of the people she’d bullied and verbally abused over the years back in 2020. Now with this casting, it seems like Broadway is ready to “forgive” Lea. Samantha Marie Ware is not ready:

Yes, I’m online today. Yes, I see y’all. Yes, I care. Yes, im affected. Yes, I’m human. Yes, I’m Black. Yes, I was abused. Yes, my dreams were tainted. Yes, Broadway upholds whiteness. Yes, Hollywood does the same. Yes, silence is complicity. Yes, I’m loud. Yes, I’d do it again.

— SAMEYA (@Sammie_Ware) July 11, 2022

Also. My name is not Amber Riley or Alex Newell. Their experience was not mine and mines was not theirs.

— SAMEYA (@Sammie_Ware) July 11, 2022

I feel so bad for Samantha. I feel so sorry for all of Lea’s victims who now have to sit through her “redemption arc.” What’s worse is that it doesn’t even feel like a redemption arc because no one in Broadway or in the mainstream media is acknowledging that Lea has years of problematic, racist and abusive behavior. Like, they really believe that Lea is stepping on the stage clean and unblemished, reputation-wise.

It’s wild that the decision to tell the truth about the people who tormented you at work is a career risk, but you can stay booked and busy as one of the tormentors

— Ryan Ken (@Ryan_Ken_Acts) July 11, 2022

this industry will reward bad behavior time and time again. its good to know that you all can only identify abusers when its a cis yt female getting abused. this industry cares not about black people and our experiences within it. Very sad. https://t.co/sMWMSPn3UZ

If Lea Michele proves anything is that:

Jennifer Hudson just became the fifth woman in history to win the EGOT

The Tony Awards were held last night in New York, and one of the big headlines from the show is about Jennifer Hudson. J-Hud just completed her EGOT!! J-Hud produced A Strange Loop, which won the Tony for Best Musical. That COUNTS. It really does! Whoopi Goldberg’s EGOT includes a Daytime Emmy, but it still counts. Jennifer is now the seventeenth person in history to complete an EGOT. She’s only the fifth woman to do it. For her big night, J-Hud chose this lowkey Pamella Roland dress. I mean… she looks fine. She must have been trying to look quieter.

More photos from the show… Paris Jackson and Prince Jackson were there to highlight MJ: The Musical.

Uzo Aduba in Cong Tri. One of my favorite looks of the show, she looked so beautiful and the fabric is so interesting.

Cynthia Erivo in Giambattista Valli. Kind of over-the-top but I like it. It was different for the Tony Awards.

Julianne Hough in Pamella Roland. Kind of a snooze, right? She’s capable of wearing some interesting things but this isn’t it.

Lea Michele in Cong Tri. Can’t believe she had the audacity to show her face at the Tonys! It sounded like she terrorized multiple Broadway shows and Broadway stars. She was there to perform with the original Spring Awakening cast.

People are so happy that Lea Michele wasn’t cast in the ‘Wicked’ film adaptation

Lea Michele at a public appearance for L...

A few months ago, producers announced that they were planning to do a revival of Funny Girl on Broadway. Most people know the film of the same name starring Barbra Streisand, who also did the Broadway show back in the day. The role of Fanny Brice is generally considered to be one of the great roles of musical theater. The reason the Broadway revival made news is because producers cast Beanie Feldstein in the role and everyone was very happy for her… partially because it meant that Lea Michele was not cast in a role which (honestly) would have been a great fit for her. That’s what Lea gets for being an unprofessional a–hole who threatens to sh-t in people’s wigs, though.

Well, funny story. This week, producers announced their casting for the long-gestating film adaptation of the musical Wicked. Idina Menzel starred in the original Broadway cast, and Lea has always wanted people to think that she’s a mini-Idina. So surely, Lea would get the same role? LOL, no.

Thank goodness! The Wicked movie has found its leading witches. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are set to star in the film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. The actresses, as well as director Jon M. Chu, announced the news on Instagram Thursday.

“These two witches!!” Chu wrote alongside photos of Grande and Erivo finding out they’d been cast. “The emotional moment I got to tell @cynthiaerivo and @arianagrande that they were our Elphaba and Galinda in the @WickedMovie for @unistudios 😭😭😭wait until you see what they bring!! It is other worldly. Ahhhhh!!!”

In a post of her own, Erivo shared a photo of a pink and green floral arrangement that Grande had sent her with a note that read: “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz.”

Grande also received flowers from her costar in Glinda and Elphaba’s signature colors and a note that began with “pink goes good with green.”

“Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you,” Erivo wrote. “I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”

[From People]

Do I feel bad for Lea? No. Am I celebrating the fact that she was an unprofessional bully for years and now the chickens have come home to roost? Little bit. I wonder how Ariana and Cynthia will do in those roles, because there is definitely a big-time Wicked hive. Meanwhile, enjoy everyone dunking on Lea:

Maybe Lea Michele should not have shit in that wig.
