Lorde loves to dumpster dive, of course

Lorde is a way kewl teenager who’s super alternative and wise beyond her years. She’s bizarre, she’s rather frightening to watch perform live  – and yes, she’s talented. With all this in mind, it should come as no shock to anyone that she really loves dumpster diving. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure – that’s what my Pop Pop used to tell me! From The Telegraph: Has she treated herself to anything extravagant yet? The question seems almost beyond her ken. “See, I’m boring because my favourite thing to do is trawl the inorganics. Do you have inorganics here?” This, it transpires, is a New Zealand reuse/recycling initiative: a period each year when everyone clears out their old televisions, sofas, suitcases, clothes. “It stays on the street for a few days and then it’s collected and put into a landfill somewhere. But people drive around and go through other people’s household rubbish. And, honestly, I’ve gotten amazing furniture, shoes, hats, jackets.” She’s done this since she was famous? “I did this three weeks ago! Recognised every single time. So embarrassing!” she says, laughing. Apparently even superstar teenagers – no matter how preternaturally wise and cool – can be mortified. It’s embarrassing when you’re a little kid and your family is into dumpster diving. My grandparents made a living and were able to retire early because of their dumpster diving/antiques dealing. However, she CHOOSES to do this, so what’s embarrassing about it? I also hate the whole, “Oh, LOL, I’m so boring! I don’t really like famous things!” that some of these celebs are into. No, you’re not boring, you’re a normal human being doing normal human things. I would find major Hollywood events and clubbing and drugging night after night boring, so… Anyway, there you have it: Lorde loves finding free shit in other people’s trash. Yahoo! Lorde isn’t really into Photoshop

Lorde is a pretty obnoxious kid sometimes, unfortunately. It happens – she’s 17 and thinks she knows everything about the world, but then didn’t we all at that age? However, she is pretty cool and mature for her age sometimes and her music is pretty good, so I was pretty pleased when she spoke out about Photoshopping on her Twitter page the other day. Apparently someone took some photos of her during a recent concert and did some handy dandy editing to make her skin look nicer. That’s sweet and all, but Lorde embraces her imperfections and decided to put up an un-retouched photo alongside it to let her fans know that “flaws are okay”! i find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-) pic.twitter.com/PuRhxt2u2O — Lorde (@lordemusic) March 31, 2014 That’s pretty great of her. Stars are used to Photoshop and they depend on it to make them look superhuman, so it’s great to see that not everyone tries to fool people into thinking that’s what they look like in real life.
