‘Friends’ and ‘The Office’ leaving Netflix

This is way more relevant than some of you might think.  Hear me out. Netflix is currently in possession of all 11 seasons of Friends and all 10 seasons of The Office. And believe it or not, they are the streaming services highest watched shows.  Over all new and old content. It seems millennials just love that 90’s humor and binge the two shows constantly. So, naturally, NBC/Time Warner looks at that and says WTF, why are we letting other people get all the cheddar for our shows? Sure, you can watch them on NBC as well, but to have them exclusively… that’s the motts. So word is The Office will leave Netflix in December of this year (2019, for our high readers) and Friends is likely to follow suit soon after.  At which time NBC will likely try and charge you for access to yet ANOTHER app to see shows on.  I really need this shit streamlined. I can’t even keep track of what channel or app I watch things on.  #Firstworldproblems The post ‘Friends’ and ‘The Office’ leaving Netflix appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Disney to Pull Movies From Netflix, Launch Streaming Service

Disney on Tuesday said it will be pulling its movies from Netflix and will launch a Disney streaming service of its own in 2019. It also said it will launch an ESPN streaming service early next year. To help do all that, Disney will acquire a majority of BAMTech, the streaming technology company owned by MLBAM, the internet company owned by Major League Baseball. Disney already owned a stake in BAMTech but will pay $1.58 billion for an additional 42 percent. Details of the Disney streaming service were sketchy Tuesday, with CEO Bob Iger saying that if a movie is Pixar- or Disney-branded, it will probably appear exclusively on the new service — including shows and movies made specifically for the service — but the jury is still out on Marvel and Star Wars films. Letterman Returning to Small Screen!

Two years after signing off CBS’ The Late Show, David Letterman is returning to the small screen. The longest-serving host in U.S. late-night TV history is set to topline a new talk show for Netflix. The untitled six-episode series will premiere in 2018. Unlike The Late Show, each hourlong episode of the Netflix series will be prerecorded and feature Letterman conducting longform conversations with a singular guest as well as exploring topics on his own — outside of the studio. A guest list has not yet been revealed. “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely,” Letterman said. The series is produced by RadicalMedia (What Happened, Miss Simone? and Oh Hello on Broadway and Abstract: The Art of Design) as well as Letterman’s Worldwide Pants banner. “Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together,” Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said. “David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard.” The post Letterman Returning to Small Screen! appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Stephen Colbert brings animated Trump to Netflix

Comedy Central already has a decent Trump parody show already, so this isn’t as groundbreaking as the headlines make it seem.  Anywho… Stephen Colbert, a fierce critic of Donald Trump, has sold a new animated series to Showtime that will feature the cartoon commander-in-chief who frequently appeared on his show during last year’s election campaign. Colbert has teamed up with The Late Show show-runner, Chris Licht, on the project, which is currently slated for one 10-episode season set to air in the fall. “I know a lot of people wanted to do this, and I’m honored that the Cartoon President invited our documentary crew into his private world,” Colbert said in a statement about the pick-up. “I’ve seen some of the footage, and I look forward to sharing the man behind the MAGA.” The show will also feature animated versions of the president’s family members, featuring “truish adventures of Trump’s confidants and bon vivants – family, top associates, heads of government, golf pros and anyone else straying into his orbit”, while “intrepidly exploring their histories and their psyches, revealing insights into what makes them so definitively Trumpian”. Alison Brie To Star In Netflix’s Pro Wrestling Series ‘G.L.O.W.’

Community/Mad Men actress Alison Brie has signed on to star in Netflix’s pro wrestling television series G.L.O.W. Based on the real-life 1980’s female wrestling league “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling,” the new comedy series comes from Jenji Kohan, creator of Orange Is The New Black and Weeds. In the 80’s wrestling was HUGE. Like even I knew who the players were. Which is how an abomination like G.L.O.W was able to exist. That said, the world needs a good 80’s based comedy. The decade just screams for skewering. The half-hour series, which is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams,” is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress — played by Brie — who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. Netflix picked up “G.L.O.W.” to series in May.
