Paula Deen, racist & canceled celebrity cook, has cozied up to Donald Trump

One of the biggest Ls I’ve ever had to take was when I finally had to admit that Paula Deen was and is trash. Back in the day, I used to really like her as a Food Network personality. She cooked Southern food, she has a wildly successful restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, and she was pro-gay rights. Then she was outed as a racist who made her Black employees dress up like antebellum “servants” at a plantation. She was credibly accused of saying and doing some other wildly racist sh-t. And so Paula Deen was canceled, and she deserved every drop of that cancellation. Of course, to some people, Paula was never canceled. While Deen was dropped from The Food Network and her other TV gigs dried up for years, she still ran somewhat successful restaurants and I believe her cookbooks still sold well. In recent years, she’s even gotten a couple of TV gigs (nothing on The Food Network though).

All of which to say, Deen possibly could have had a mainstream comeback at some point and introduced herself to a new generation. Instead, she followed her worst instincts and leaned into the Aggrieved Racist White Culture movement. She’s been cozying up to Lara Trump – Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law – and in an Instagram photo posted on Thursday, Paula Deen was seen with her arm around Donald Trump. This is a bad look for all involved. Deen is no longer in that “any port in a storm” damage-control mode. It’s been a decade since her life was upended by her own racist horsesh-t. She’s choosing to associate with Donald Trump and the MAGA cult because that’s who she is. That’s who she always has been. It’s awful.

Paula Deen is a pretty regular visitor at Lara’s home, too.

A true ‘southern plantation-style wedding’ would include waiters dressed as slaves – she said

Anthony Bourdain judges your BS ‘artisanal’ sandwich & pumpkin spice latte

wenn22867063

I like to cover Anthony Bourdain’s interviews whenever I come across one. I mostly enjoy Bourdain because he’s a judgy, sh-t talking curmudgeon and we need to stick together. Honestly though, I find Bourdain’s personality grating but I do love the shade he throws. He hates Guy Fieri, Paula Deen, almost everyone on the Food Network (except Ina Garten). He’s like the New Yorker version of Karl Lagerfeld – it’s probably easier to name the very short list of things and people Bourdain enjoys. Anyway, we have two new things to add to the massive list of Things/People Hated By Bourdain: pumpkin spice and BS “artisanal” whatever.

Anthony Bourdain has a point: The adjective “artisan” — which connotes an item produced in limited quantities, using traditional methods — is grossly overused. And he makes that point in a way that only Anthony Bourdain could.

“These artisans make beautiful things in a world where the word ‘artisan’ is cheapened,” Bourdain told The Daily Meal in a new interview. “Like big brand potato chips being called ‘artisanal,’ I mean come on, let’s get real.”

The Parts Unknown host proceeds to riff on McDonald’s new “artisan” burgers, a reasonable target considering the mass-produced nature of the fast-food chain’s offerings.

“Yeah, well, maybe the McDonald’s burger is made up of ground up artisans, but that would be the only way McDonald’s would be able to convince me that they make artisan burgers,” Bourdain said.

Another trend he can’t stand? Pumpkin spice. (Of course he decided to insert himself into the most controversial debate of our time.)

“I think pumpkin spice is disgusting. I certainly don’t want it in my coffee,” he told PEOPLE in September. “I like pumpkin just fine. I like pumpkin pie. Pumpkin tortellini. I make a decent pumpkin soup. But I can’t think of the last time I woke up in the middle of the night and thought, ‘You know what? I could really go for some pumpkin.’”

Oprah Weighs In On Paula “Hot Mess” Dean

oprah winfrey paula deen

Oprah hasn’t spoken publicly about Paula Deen’s N-word extravaganza. Considering that she and Oprah were very tight, at least in a business way, I’m a little interested in what she has to say about the whole thing. And Oprah’s also been dealing with her own issues from a former co-star who threw the N-word at her, among other insults.

Oprah sat down with E! News and spoke about Deen. (Via E Online):

I think that Paula Deen represented, you know, millions of people who have used the word. Unfortunately, she is a public figure. And whatever the situation was with the hearing that she had, or had said it and then went on TV and said she had only said it one time, but Paula Deen, I thought, represented a whole lot of people. And I think for the big issue to be made about Paula Deen was what the media does.

E Online also pointed out that in 2012, Oprah visited Deen at her home in Georgia for new show, Oprah’s Next Chapter. At some point, I guess racism came up, as she said to Deen, “You and I both know a lot of people use that word.” Ha. How prophetic. I’m still going to bet that this is the end of their friendship, as Oprah recently said, “You cannot be my friend and use that word around me.”

It’s okay, Paula. You still have O.J.
