Suri Cruise turned 18 years old this year. After Katie Holmes divorced Tom Cruise, Katie and Suri lived full-time in New York, and Suri is fully a New Yorker. Suri is currently a freshman in college and from the looks of things, Katie and Suri are handling it pretty well. Katie has an empty nest, but Suri comes home often to visit her. Tom has had nothing to do with Suri or Katie since 2012. That’s when Katie and Tom divorced, and Katie negotiated a divorce settlement which set her & Suri up in New York. Katie still works, but I would imagine the divorce settlement has largely financed their lifestyles. In recent days, the Daily Mail has been trying to make one particular story happen: that Tom Cruise set up a multi-million-dollar trust fund for Suri and it kicked in when she turned 18. Well, Katie just denied it:

Katie Holmes is setting the record straight about her daughter Suri Cruise’s finances.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, Holmes, 45, shared a post on Instagram disputing a report from the Daily Mail that alleged that 18-year-old Suri had become a millionaire after her trust fund from her father Tom Cruise recently kicked in.

The outlet reported that a source said Suri gained access to her trust fund from the Top Gun: Maverick star, 62, in April when she turned 18, and that she has an additional trust fund from her mother.

“Completely false,” Holmes wrote over a screenshot of the article. “Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.”

For years, I’ve wondered about the terms of Katie and Tom’s divorce, specifically the financial aspect of it. In many divorces, the wealthier parent does have to provide some kind of trust or separate account specifically for the kid’s education/college. While Suri might not have a trust, I wonder if there’s been a separate account for her education? Of course, Katie and Tom settled the divorce so quickly, it also seems possible that Katie accepted a lump-sum settlement with the understanding that everything to do with Suri’s education needed to come from that divorce settlement money. Anyway, it’s interesting that Katie even bothered to deny this. Maybe Suri wanted her to say something.

‘Tis the season for adult celebrity children to drop their deadbeat dad’s last name. Last month, Shiloh Jolie filed to legally drop the “Pitt” portion of her last name right after she turned 18 on May 27. Her sisters, Zahara and Vivienne, have already stopped using Pitt publicly, but Shiloh is the first of the Jolie children that we know has done it legally.

Suri Cruise, daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, is also ditching her biological father’s last name. Suri, who turned 18 back in April and reportedly hasn’t seen her dad since 2012, now goes by Suri Noelle. Suri’s birth certificate does not list a middle name, so the “Noelle” honors her mother, whose middle name is Noelle. Last month, she used that moniker in a playbill. This past weekend, Suri graduated from high school, which is bonkers to me because I remember when she was born, and how on earth has it been 18 years?! Well, just like with her school play, the graduation program listed her as Suri Noelle.

Suri Cruise is officially a high school graduate! The daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise celebrated getting her diploma from LaGuardia High School on Friday with her mom by her side. In photos and video obtained by Page Six, she could be seen ringing in the milestone moment by snapping pics with Holmes and a friend in New York City, where she resides. The teen was also photographed animatedly hugging another recent graduate.

Suri, 18, looked thrilled as she posed with Holmes, 45, for photos outside a brick building before heading into the United Palace Theatre, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

She rocked a dainty, white dress under her red graduation robe, and paired the ensemble with white sandals that had floral embellishments on them. Her brunette hair was styled down. Holmes, meanwhile, opted for a matching set that consisted of light yellow pleated pants and a collared long-sleeve shirt.

Suri’s father, Tom, was not present at the special event, as they have been estranged for most of her life. He instead attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London.

It was even revealed in the teen’s graduation ceremony pamphlet that she goes by “Suri Noelle” and seemingly does not use her famous dad’s last name.

Suri is expected to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in the fall.

On Tuesday night, she looked all grown up as she headed to senior prom with her friends and a brunette date, who was seen holding her by her waist.

I think it’s super sweet that Suri is using Katie’s middle name. What a lovely way to honor her mother. Katie really saved both of their lives by getting away from Tom and the Scientology cult and raising Suri out of the spotlight. She did good. I’m sure she has a lot of emotions watching her graduate from high school. I bet Tom had no idea that the graduation was even happening. Even so, watching him exchange friendship bracelets with young women and bounce along to “Shake It Off” from a VIP tent at Wembley Stadium while his daughter is graduating high school is a pretty big reminder about how much he sucks as a father. Based on the pictures we’ve seen of Suri with her mom and interacting with her classmates, Suri seems like a lovely, well-adjusted young woman. I hope she has a wonderful college experience at Carnegie Mellon.

Also, I had forgotten how celebrity babies were born all around that same time! Besides Suri and Shiloh, Violet Affleck (Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck), Jayden Federline (Britney Spears and Kevin Federline), and Moses Martin (Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin) all either just turned or are turning 18 this year. I followed gossip back then, albeit primarily through print magazines, so this is making me feel really old right now. But on that front, I find it even more interesting how the chickens are coming home to roost for people like Cruise and Pitt. There were so many warning signs back then but that was still a misogynistic era where publicists had some power and people were more than willing to give handsome men the benefit of the doubt. I love that both men’s daughters grew up and believed them when they showed who they are.

Reportedly, Tom Cruise has not seen or spoken to his daughter Suri Cruise in many years, basically since Tom and Katie Holmes’s divorce was finalized back in 2013. It was a complicated operation for Holmes to get out of that marriage – her father is a lawyer and he was advising her, plus he helped her get the best lawyers to fight for custody of Suri and get a good settlement. Since the divorce, Katie has lived in New York with Suri, and Suri is very much a Manhattan kid. She goes to good schools, she has friends and a whole big life in the city. She’s now 16 years old and planning out her higher education. Apparently, Tom is not part of the decision-making process whatsoever.

Katie Holmes’ 16-year-old daughter Suri has already started applying to colleges with the help of her mother – but the teen’s famous father Tom Cruise won’t have a hand in helping her, because the actor ‘has no relationship’ with his child.

A source close to Katie, 44, tells DailyMail.com exclusively that Suri, who turns 17 next month, ‘has sent some applications out’ and is ‘leaning towards’ studying fashion at Fordham University in New York City – a choice that would make her style-savvy mother Katie very pleased.

‘Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other,’ the insider shared. ‘Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective.’

While Katie is taking an active role in helping her daughter with college applications, the teen’s father, Mission Impossible star Tom, 60, will not play a role in the process – having been estranged from his daughter since 2013, one year after he and Katie divorced. At the time of their split, it was reported that Katie had chosen to end the couple’s marriage over fears about raising her daughter as a Scientologist – a religion that Tom is incredibly dedicated to.

‘Suri does not know her father anymore and she has not spent time with him in a decade,’ the insider shared. ‘She does not go to see his movies and he has no part in her life.’

However, the source notes that – while Tom won’t have a hand in helping Suri choose where she goes to school – he will pay her college tuition costs, per his ultra-secret divorce agreement with his actress ex. According to their divorce documents, Tom agreed to pay Katie $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18 years old, the insider shared. The documents also state that Tom agreed to pay all of Suri’s expenses, including ‘medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs.’

‘Tom has always maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to Katie and Suri,’ the source told DailyMail.com. However, the Mission Impossible actor has not maintained a presence in Suri’s life.

I mean, how many years will we have to pretend to be outraged about this? Suri is obviously a healthy, normal kid being raised by a single mother and she doesn’t have a relationship with her father. There are tons of kids being raised by single parents who have next to no relationship with the other parent. It would be different, I guess, if Tom Cruise was pretending to be father-of-the-year, or if his brand was built on being a family man. But it is what it is – I’m glad Suri has her own goals and dreams and they don’t seem to involve her dad.
