Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) Marries Partner After 38-Years

Jim Nabors Gay Marriage Seattle

Actor Jim Nabors, best known for playing Private Gomer Pyle in the 1960s sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show, has married his longtime partner, Stan Cadwallader, after 38-years together as a gay couple.

The couple traveled from their Honolulu home to Seattle, WA, where gay marriage was recently made legal, and were married on January 15, 2013. Nabors, 82, met Cadwallader, 64, a firefighter, in Honolulu back in 1975 and the couple have been together ever since.

Nabors, who has been “out” for years, is thrilled that gay marriage is becoing more accepted, but he says he has no plans of becoming involved in gay rights activism. ”I’m not a debater. And everybody has their own opinion about this and actually I’m not an activist, so I’ve never gotten involved in any of this.”

All he knows is that he is simply happy to have the opportunity, and freedom, to marry his longtime love.

“I’m 82 and he’s in his 60s and so we’ve been together for 38 years and I’m not ashamed of people knowing, it’s just that it was such a personal thing, I didn’t tell anybody. I’m very happy that I’ve had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I’m just very happy.”
