Two big things happened last week around Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s estrangement and their ongoing divorce. One, Kanye said, on stage, that Kim needs to “run back” to him. Two, Kim filed to bifurcate their marriage and declare herself and Ye legally single before the divorce agreement is worked out. Kim apparently was unsurprised at Kanye’s public appeals, and sources told People that Kim has unequivocally moved on. “She knows it’s difficult for Kanye to deal with… She isn’t surprised that he pleads in public for her to run back to him. She is just trying to be respectful about it.” Then yesterday, the big headline was that Kim told the court that reconciliation won’t happen, not even with counseling:
Kim Kardashian recently stated in new court documents that no counseling or reconciliation efforts will be able to repair her marriage to Kanye West.
“Irreconcilable differences have existed and continue to exist between [West] and me, which have caused our marriage to irretrievably break down,” Kardashian, 41, stated in the filing. “No counseling or reconciliation effort will be of any value at this time. [West] and I both deserve the opportunity to build new lives. Therefore, I am asking that my request to bifurcate and terminate our marital status be granted.”
Kardashian also claims that the marriage for both her and West, 44, is “no longer viable.”
“[Kardashian] has no desire to reconcile with [West] and wants their marriage terminated,” the documents state. “Irreconcilable differences have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, and there is no possibility of saving the marriage through counseling or other means. The continued maintenance of technical marital status between [West] and [Kardashian] serves no useful purpose, and there is no reason to maintain the legal relationship.”
It felt like people were judging Kim for this, but I get it. She’s not going to be manipulated (publicly) into running back to Kanye. She doesn’t want to do counseling with Kanye, because that would be a complete mess (and he probably doesn’t want it either). Women are allowed to be f–king done, you know? Meanwhile, Ye is still holding out hope:
Kanye West is still hoping he and estranged wife Kim Kardashian can work things out — even as she takes steps to make their split legally official. A source close to the rapper tells PEOPLE that family and marriage are “important” to West, and that he’s a “family man at heart [whose] love and commitment” to his ex and kids “will never change.”
“He’s not giving up without a fight. Kim is the mother of his children and he’s not going to just let that go,” the source says. “No matter if they’re husband and wife, they’ll always support each other. Her recent filing or any filing for that matter doesn’t mean he’s going to stop fighting to win her back.”
Last week, the SKIMS founder — who has been dating comedian Pete Davidson since October — filed court documents requesting she be declared legally single. Kardashian asked the court to separate issues of child custody and property from her marital status, and also requested that her maiden name be restored. In the documents, which were obtained by PEOPLE, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum said their marriage “has irremediably broken down,” and that “there is no possibility of saving the marriage through counseling or other means.”
Even so, the source says that West remains steadfast in his dedication to winning back his ex.
“Despite the recent filing by Kim, Kanye hasn’t lost hope to be with Kim again,” the insider says. “As he goes out more and he’s holding events and concerts, he’s always inviting Kim and will continue to do so. His sole priority is making sure she’s taken care of and treated like a queen, whether they’re married or not. That will always be a priority and that will never change.”
“That will always be a priority and that will never change” – yeah, it will change. At some point, it will change and that point will be when Kanye ends up in a serious relationship with someone other than Kim. Which might be a while, who knows. As I noted in previous coverage, it’s not like Kanye is even trying to “woo” Kim back, nor is he promising to change or promising to take his mental health seriously. He’s just publicly telling her to come back and refusing to participate in the divorce.
