Angelina Jolie Billy Bob Thornton

Angelina Jolie still sends Christmas gifts to Billy Bob Thornton’s son Harry

Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton eloped in 2000. They’d been seeing each other for months beforehand, but their elopement was still seen as sudden. Angelina moved in with BBT and, at the time, he had joint custody of his two young sons, Harry James and William. Those two boys lived with their dad and stepmom Angelina for several years. And now those boys are all grown up – Harry is 27 years old, and he’s currently doing some kind of reality series with other celebrity-kids. He was asked about his former step-mom Angelina and he still loves her:

Harry Thornton still has a connection with his father, Billy Bob Thornton’s, ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. The Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules star shares that although he doesn’t talk to his former stepmother daily, she still thinks about him.

“To this day, she still sends me Christmas gifts every year and stuff like that,” Harry, 27, tells ET. “I don’t talk to her on the phone every day but every now and then we talk.”

Angelina was married to Billy Bob from 2000 to 2003. At the time, the 66-year-old actor was already a father of three. Harry says that vacations with Angelina prepared him for his time on Relatively Famous. “She was so cool,” he says of the 46-year-old mother of four. “She took us camping every week and she rented, like, a RV one time, and we went on a full camping trip.”

Harry reminisces, “She was just so fun for us back when we were, like, younger. Like, she was a lot of fun.”

[From ET]

Angelina was pretty young (25) when she became a step-mother to BBT’s boys, and she must have loved playing with them and creating adventures for them. I wonder if they came with her to the set of Lara Croft? Anyway, just a reminder that Angelina Jolie was always cool, and even kids knew it at the time. That’s very nice that she still sends Christmas presents to her former stepsons too! Jolie and Billy Bob remained very friendly too. Jolie stayed friendly with all of her exes except Brad Pitt.

Angelina Jolie The Weeknd

Is Angelina Jolie the ‘movie star’ referenced in The Weeknd’s new album?

My dream for Angelina Jolie was that she has some fun with The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) and that Jonny Lee Miller gets jealous and that there are two men vying for her love, and ultimately JLM comes out ahead. That was my dream simply because I love JLM and I love the idea that Jonny and Angelina could give it another go. But here we are: it’s looking more like Abel is the one romancing Angelina. The Weeknd just dropped his new album, Dawn FM. Some of the lyrics reference the idea of Abel banging a movie star.

The Weeknd has appeared to confirm he is dating Angelina Jolie, after they were photographed on a string of dates together last year. The superstar released his new album Dawn FM this morning and on one song called Here We Go… Again he sings: “My new girl, she’s a movie star.”

Appearing to refer to sleeping with her, he continues: “I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell. But I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressing thoughts. I told myself that I’d never fall, but here we go again.”

On another track called Starry Eyes on the new 16-track album, The Weeknd, 31, appears to refer to the fact that the actress, 46, has been single since splitting from Brad Pitt in September 2016.

He sings: “You weren’t touched by a man in so long. ‘Cause the last time it was way too strong.”

At another point he croons: “Now you’re my reality and I wanna feel you close.”

[From The Sun]

I mean… maybe. Maybe it’s Angelina. It’s probably Angelina. I hope Jonny is okay. I hope he’s prepared to fight for her! What’s our vibe on how Angelina could potentially react to this from Abel? Did she know about the lyrics? Did she get approval over the lyrics? The thing I’m catching on is that she has teenagers in her house. Teenagers who probably listen to The Weeknd, teenagers who possibly stream Dawn FM. Awkward.

I joked earlier this week about how Abel “aged” himself for the album cover to impress Angelina, but now I think it might be true.

Angelina Jolie Mitt Romney

Angelina Jolie went to DC this week to take meetings on Afghanistan & VAWA

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make a visit to the One World Trade Center

Back in September, Angelina Jolie made a multi-day trip to Washington DC. She took meetings on Capitol Hill and the White House, mostly focusing on the need to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. President Biden co-wrote and introduced VAWA when he was in the Senate, and he was one of the biggest advocates for it whenever it came up for reauthorization. Donald Trump abandoned VAWA, big surprise. Republicans in the Senate didn’t reauthorize it, and no one has reauthorized it in the first year of the Biden presidency. That’s why Angelina has been used as a roving ambassador and advocate for VAWA, and that’s why she traveled to DC again this week.

Rep. Cori Bush and Senator Mitt Romney both posted photos from their meetings with Angelina. I believe she had meetings with several additional representatives and senators, although maybe they didn’t post photos from her visit. There were also meetings with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), although those meetings were about Afghan humanitarian assistance.

The visit to Romney’s office looked especially congenial – Romney is showing Jolie some of his family photos. One of his grandchildren is adopted, I wonder if he told her that. Cori Bush was already pro-VAWA, but she praised Jolie as “so informed” about the issues of violence against women and children.

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt hopes he & Angelina Jolie ‘find a way to forgive each other’

93rd Annual Academy Awards, Press Room

In November, Us Weekly ran a very curious cover story about Brad Pitt. He apparently “can’t move on” from… Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. According to their sources, Brad and Jen are “just friends” and nothing more at this point, but Brad is still haunted by Jolie. He still feels like he has “a huge cloud hanging over him” because of the still-unfinished divorce. Part of Brad’s ennui was likely because Angelina scored several legal and financial victories this year, having finally sold off her half of Chateau Miraval and successfully getting a biased family judge removed from her divorce case. Now that Brad has officially taken L after L, he’s now hoping that at some point, he and Angelina can bury the hatchet. Tell that to your goons, Brad.

Trying to move on. Brad Pitt doesn’t want his relationship with ex-wife Angelina Jolie to stay as icy as it’s been, a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“Brad hopes that one day he and Angelina find a way to forgive each other and move forward, for the kids’ sakes if nothing else,” the source says of the Moneyball actor, 57, and the Maleficent star, 46. “He hates all the bad blood.”

Earlier this year, Us confirmed that a judge ruled in favor of Pitt sharing custody with Jolie, but the actress was not happy with the decision. “She will never forgive him,” an insider told Us in June. “She maintains it’s far from over and still believes that justice will prevail.” Later in the summer, the Salt star succeeded in having Judge John Ouderkerk removed from the custody case. The Oscar winner had been fighting to have him taken off the case since August 2020, claiming that the judge failed to disclose “ongoing business and professional relationships” with Pitt and his legal team.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, however, was unfazed by Ouderkerk’s removal. “The appeals court ruling was based on a technical procedural issue. The facts haven’t changed,” a spokesperson for the actor told Us in a statement in July. “There is an extraordinary amount of factual evidence which led the judge — and the many experts who testified — to reach their clear conclusion about what is in the children’s best interests.”

While he continues to hammer out the details of his divorce from Jolie, the Oklahoma native isn’t thinking too much about moving on with someone else.

“Brad would love to date again, then find that special someone to be with long-term,” the first insider explains, adding that he “hates the process” of dating in the public eye. “He is focused on his family, charities and work right now.”

[From Us Weekly]

You’re supposed to come away from this story feeling like Angelina Jolie is a vindictive villainess who got a Pitt-favorable ruling thrown out on a technicality out of spite. You’re supposed to come away from it feeling like Brad is conciliatory and Angelina is not, that Angelina is the one nursing an unreasonable grudge against Brad. All evidence to the contrary, huh? Angelina exposed Brad and his legal team’s unethical dealings with Judge Ouderkirk. Angelina is the one with the great relationships with the kids. Angelina is the one who got out of Miraval with a massive profit. She’s also the one dating and spending time with men who treat her well (The Weeknd and Jonny Lee Miller). All while Brad grumps around.

Angelina Jolie attends ‘Paper and Glue: A JR Project’ premiere with Shiloh & Pax

Over the summer, Angelina Jolie took her kids to Europe for some fun, travel and work. During that trip, we kept getting stories and photos of Jolie with her friends. She ended up hanging out with Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, Prune Nourry and JR. JR is a “street artist” and he took many photos of Angelina (mostly posted to his IG Stories) during the trip. A nice time was had by all, and I halfway wondered if JR’s photos would end up in a magazine editorial as Jolie promoted The Eternals. That didn’t happen! Instead, I kind of wonder if Jolie turns up in JR’s documentary, Paper and Glue: A JR Project.

Last night, Paper and Glue: A JR Project premiered in LA. Angelina attended the premiere and happily posed with JR (who honestly looks like her type). Jolie brought two of her kids, probably the two “artsy” kids, Shiloh and Pax. Pax rarely does premieres with his mom these days, so he must have really been interested in the documentary. Shiloh’s back to her tomboy style. They’re both really good-looking kids. Angelina wore one of her favorite ensembles: a black pencil skirt and a black turtleneck.

Jolie was also seen out a few nights ago in LA – she was apparently attending an evening event for Guerlain (one of her few endorsements), but there were only street photos of her outside the event. I didn’t see anything from inside the event?

Angelina Jolie Box Office Chloe Zhao Gemma Chan

‘The Eternals’ made $71 million in the US, and opened with $161 million globally

16th Rome Film Festival, photocall film 'Eternals', Rome, Italy

After the Eternals’ opening weekend, Rotten Tomatoes has the critics’ score standing at 48% rotten, still the lowest critics’ score ever for a Marvel film. The audience score is much better though – 81% of viewers liked the movie, despite the critical thrashing and despite the qualms from a lot of Marvel stans that the film would be bad because it’s directed by a woman and it has a diverse cast. The Eternals ended up coming just short of the box-office predictions:

“Eternals” soared to the top of the weekend box office chart, buoyed by mania for all things Marvel. But its $71 million debut fell just shy of more bullish projections, which had the superhero film debuting to $75 million to $80 million. That’s a sign, perhaps, that the iffy reviews muted “Eternals’” results or a signal that the underlying intellectual property, the story of a group of god-like extraterrestrials, didn’t have the resonance of other comic book adaptations. Marvel has successfully introduced lesser-known heroes, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy, to movie fans and spawned successful franchises with them, but that series got a lift from critics and also debuted in a time before anyone had ever heard of COVID.

“Eternals” still scored the fourth-best opening weekend for any movie during the pandemic era, sliding in behind Marvel’s own “Black Widow” ($80.3 million) and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” ($75.3 million) as well as “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” ($90 million), which was made by Sony but based on a Marvel comic creation. It’s an impressive number — and any other studio would be thrilled to have a launch of that size for its movie, especially given the challenging theatrical market — but, for a Marvel venture, it’s hard to not view it as falling short of sky-high expectations. Heavy the head that wears the box office crown and all that. Internationally, “Eternals” took in $90.7 million, bringing its global haul to an impressive $161.7 million. The film is playing in several major markets including South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Mexico and Australia.

[From Variety]

I mean, the box office is still sluggish because of the pandemic and I’m sure there are millions of people who would just prefer to wait a week or two to see the latest Marvel movie. There’s not the sense of urgency anymore to see movies on opening weekend, especially since the pandemic “normalized” watching new movies from the comfort of home. That being said, the negativity about the box office reminds me of the political negativity about the Biden administration: for so many people – and perhaps for Marvel – the glass will never be half-full. It doesn’t matter that the Eternals opened with $161.7 worldwide for a film directed by a Chinese woman and starring the most diverse cast in Marvel history. It matters, to those people, that the film fell short of “bullish” prognostications.

Variety also had another theory about why critics were hyper-critical of the Eternals – utter critical snobbery about Chloe Zhao, and the belief that Zhao was slumming it by directing a Marvel movie. Nevermind that Zhao went to Marvel herself and pitched.

Angelina Jolie: ‘You have to take it very seriously’ when you work with guns on-set

jolie salt

Angelina Jolie is still doing interviews to promote the Eternals, and that means she’s been asked about recent news of the day. She was asked about the death of Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of Rust. In the days that followed Hutchins’ death, we learned more about the on-set negligence within the props master and crew when it came to “prop guns,” which were real guns and, as it turned out, real bullets. Jolie has done so many movies where she’s had to handle handguns, pistols, machine guns, etc. She’s also directed movies where guns are used by actors. She seems to have a healthy respect for on-set weapons.

Angelina Jolie has revealed she is ‘always careful’ and follows gun procedure on set following Alec Baldwin’s fatal shooting accident on the set of his film Rust. The actress, 46, weighed in on the tragic incident after the actor, 63, was given a loaded gun, which he shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with, as well as injuring director Joel Souza.

Angelina, who has worked with guns on set on many occasions both as an actor and director, said that ‘certain procedures’ have to be taken ‘very seriously’, when asked about the accident during a recent interview with The Times.

The Eternals star, said: ‘I can’t imagine what these families are going through. At this moment, the grief and the tragedy of that accident is quite overwhelming.

‘I’ve always been very careful because I’ve had to work with guns a lot. The way I’ve worked or checked when I’m directing, there are certain procedures. You have to take it very seriously.’

Angelina’s many action parts have seen her handling guns on countless occasions, including her roles in Tomb Raider, Mr & Mrs Smith and Salt.

The A-lister previously revealed her pro-gun stance in 2008 when she admitted she kept a gun in the house during her marriage to Brad Pitt, 57. She said: ‘Brad and I are not against having a gun in the house, and we do have one. And yes, I’d be able to use it if I had to… If anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I have no problem shooting them.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Oof, I forgot that she and Brad had guns in the house back in the day. I wonder if she still has guns in the house or whether she just leaves it to her security to arm themselves. As for what she said about Hutchins and on-set gun safety… she was trying to be respectful of the situation. I don’t even think she’s trying to make some pointed comments at Alec Baldwin, really. After reading so much about the shooting and all of the things that were happening on set, I came away surprised that there are not more accidental shootings on film and television sets. While I’m sure there are many professional, competent armorers, it definitely feels like there are so many “accidents waiting to happen,” especially on low-budget indie film sets.
