Celebs doin’ up Pride Month!

This years Pride Month was a special one, as it celebrated the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.  A massive riot in New York City that many see as a pinnacle turning point in the LGBT movement toward acceptance.  And because of this, many celebrities are making their voices heard on social media. Either about their support, their own struggle or story and some using the opportunity to come out. Even if they have concerns about how that will be received. Take Lil Naz X and his not so cryptic tweet regarding his coming out song. some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure. ??? pic.twitter.com/O9krBLllqQ — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019 View this post on Instagram How you doin’, New York? ? Disney Channel show has teen character tell his friends ‘I’m Gay’ in network first

The show ‘Andi Mack’ is a coming of age story on Disney Channel that often deals with subjects deemed taboo for the younger set. This past weekend was no different. On Friday Cyrus Goodman, played by actor Joshua Rush, became the first Disney Channel character to utter the words; ‘I’m gay’ in an episode. The decision to include a gay story arc earlier in season two is also a first for the network. ‘Every day is a blessing working on this show,’ Rush tweeted along with the clip of the scene. ‘This milestone is just another stitch in a rich and vibrant tapestry that is Cyrus Goodman. ‘ On Friday’s episode, titled One in a Minyan, the show’s lead characters were seen attending the shiva of Goodman’s grandmother, Bubbe Rose. While walking around a buffet and naming a few of the dishes, Goodman turned to Jonah Beck and uttered the words: ‘I’m Gay,’ without hesitation. After a couple of seconds of silence, Beck offered up a smile and replied, ‘Yeah? Cool.’ From there, the scene just rolled on, seamlessly, in order to make the revelation seem as normal as any other conversation between friends. Ok… Maybe no NO reaction: Sofia Wylie (plays Buffy) and Peyton Lee (plays Andi Mack) The post Disney Channel show has teen character tell his friends ‘I’m Gay’ in network first appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

March Vogue: First Trans Model to Cover the mag!

Valentina Sampaio is GORGEOUS. Much like all the other ladies who’ve landed the cover of fashions most illustrious magazine. (heh hem, that would be Vogue).  But Sampaio is more than a model.  She represents a genuine shift in how transgender men and women are viewed in the fashion industry.  No longer gimmicks for Betsy or Jean Paul, she is simply a beautiful woman fulfilling a dream. Vice Fashion did a nice little Q&A with her, so we stole some of it. Just as a tease. They’ll get over it. Can you tell us a bit about who you are and where you grew up? I’m a 20-year-old girl from Brazil. I grew up in a cosy fishing village (Prainha) close to Fortaleza in the north east of Brazil. How has your background shaped who you are today? My childhood was nice and smooth, everybody from my village was always so good with me; I never suffered bullying, so I would say it was a normal and nice childhood. Growing up who were your role models? My role models were Brooke Shields, Brigitte Bardot, Grace Jones and Angelina Jolie. They’re all pretty different to each other, but they are all strong and talented women. What did you want to be when you were a kid? I wanted to be a fashion designer or an actress. ?So proud and Super happyyy? merciiiii????????? Ameiii super felizzz??? #vsstorm ?? @joymodel @ferherbert #Repost @vogueparis with @repostapp ??? Bella Thorne “Comes out” in Chillest Way Ever

Disney beauty, Bella Thorne, 18, just came out as bi-sexual on her twitter account.  Thorne had posted a photo of herself kissing a girl on her snapchat the previous day, which was the reason it even came up. Snapchat @Bellathornedab You might think the idea of stars coming out as being either gay or bi is pretty unnecessary these days, but it really does serve a desperate need.  Teens all over the world are still being given the impression being gay isn’t “normal” or bad some how. And seeing people they idolize reflect their own inner selves can often mean the difference between life or death.  In the very least it means a teen questioning their sexuality doesn’t feel alone. So that’s why Bella Thorne’s recent admission that she’s bi-sexual is important. This is why it’s awesome. When asked if she was “bi” on twitter, Thorne employed the passive calmness of an aged Buddhist, and replied, “Yes”.   Her candor was met with hundreds of tweets of support.  Bravo, Bella. Donald Trump is fine with letting trans people use whichever bathroom they want

I keep losing track of Donald Trump’s various wars on media outlets, but I guess he’s okay with NBC this week, because he appeared on Thursday morning’s Today Show for an exclusive interview/town hall which is getting wide coverage, mostly because Trump answered some questions about LGBTQ issues and more specifically, the North Carolina “bathroom law.” North Carolina passed their own draconian “religious freedom” law last month, which basically entitles every anti-gay bigot the “right” to discriminate against LGBTQ people, and even more specifically, it says that trans individuals can only use the public bathrooms which correspond to the gender on their birth certificate. The whole thing is a clusterwhoops, and North Carolina is losing millions of dollars as major businesses and artists boycott the state. The GOP platform is basically that these kinds of “religious freedom” laws are great and every state should have them. But Trump disagreed, saying: “Well look North Carolina did something that was very strong and they’re paying a big price and there’s a lot of problems. And one of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday saying, ‘Leave it the way it is right now, there have been very few problems, leave it the way it is.’ There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble.” Today show co-host Matt Lauer then asked Trump, “Do you have any transgender people working in your organization?” “I don’t know, I really don’t know,” Trump told Lauer. “I probably do, I really don’t know.” “So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?” Lauer asked. “That is correct,” Trump responded. [From E! News] Ted Cruz is already bashing Trump for his comments, but I have to think that Trump is already maneuvering into a general-election position, which… I don’t know, is actually pretty smart? I’m not saying I’m suddenly a Trump supporter, I’m just saying A) he’s smart to begin maneuvering his public positions to a more centrist platform and B) Trump’s words about the “bathroom issue” are actually not problematic at all. Of course, the Trump giveth and the Trump taketh away. No sooner did he say something relatively enlightened about LGBTQ people than he declared that taking Andrew Jackson off of the $20 bill was “pure political correctness.” Jackson is being replaced with Harriet Tubman, which is great and it’s what activists wanted. The original plan was to replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, but Lin-Manuel Miranda saved Hamilton for everybody. So now we’re getting $20 Tubman and Trump is acting as an apologist for Andrew Jackson… who engineered a genocide. Or as Trump said, “he was someone very important to this country.” Trump’s solution? Put Tubman on the $2 bill. Oh, Trump. Here’s the $20 bill part. And here’s the LGBTQ part. Photos courtesy of Pacific Coast News.
