Anne Heche’s rep confirms that she has a severe brain injury, is not expected to survive

Anne Heche caused a series of car accidents on Friday, ending with her Mini Cooper running into a one-story home in a residential neighborhood in Los Angeles. She had to be rescued from her burning vehicle and has been on a ventilator in a medically induced coma in intensive care. She has not regained consciousness. Anne’s family and friends have visited her in the hospital and have said through a source that they are heartbroken and distressed by the headlines about her. Anne’s rep previously clarified that she in in critical condition. Unfortunately her rep has now said that she is not expected to survive.

Anne Heche is facing a grim prognosis after suffering a catastrophic brain injury, a rep for the Emmy-winning actress tells PEOPLE.

“Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition,” the rep says in a statement on behalf of Heche’s family.

“She is not expected to survive.”

“It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable,” the rep tells PEOPLE.

The statement goes on to express gratitude for the outpouring of support and for the care shown for Heche, 53, in the aftermath of the devastating car crash on Aug. 5.

“We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital,” the statement continues.

As for her legacy, “Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” says the rep on behalf of the family. “More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

Anne has had a very tragic life and was estranged from her mother for good reason. Anne’s rep’s statement is lovely and sadly sounds final. She’s already being referred to in the past tense. Anne has a 20-year-old son, Homer, and a 13-year-old son, Atlas. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.

Anne Heche’s friends & family heartbroken, find salacious headlines difficult to read

Anne Heche is currently in critical condition in the ICU on a ventilator following an accident on Friday in which she drove her Mini Cooper into a home. That accident was her third that day; she previously committed a hit and run at a garage and then narrowly missed a pedestrian and ran into a car instead. Footage from the residential area of the time leading up to the final crash show her driving at a very high speed. The home she hit and its contents were destroyed by the resulting fire, but the resident escaped with her pets and not much else. Anne is suffering severe burns and was the only person injured.

ET Online has quotes from sources close to Anne. They say her family and friends are pulling for her and that her son Homer, 20, is advocating for her care. (Anne also has a 13-year-old son, Atlas.) What’s more is that her loved ones understandably find the headlines difficult to see.

A source tells ET that the Emmy-winning actress is surrounded by her family members who are hoping for a recovery. “Her family is on pins and needles, just praying.”

Revealing that Homer is taking the lead in making sure her mother is getting the best care, the source explained, “He’s being as strong as he can be. Her family is ready to surround her, and be there if she wakes up. Everyone is waiting for that to happen…”

In the days following Heche’s highly publicized car crash and ensuing investigation, more and more details have surfaced regarding what could have led to the wreck.

Another source tells ET, “Anne’s friends and family are absolutely devastated and heartbroken. It has been difficult for them to read the salacious headlines [and] reports about Anne. They feel as though her character is being attacked. They are trying to focus on getting Anne better, and it’s very hard when they have these negative distractions. Anne is in a coma and fighting for her life. She has no voice here.”

[From ET Online]

As many of you mentioned in the comments to our last story, the conversation around Anne’s accident would be different if anyone else was hurt that day, and they easily could have been. She’s now fighting for her life. I don’t have much compassion for impaired drivers, but I can imagine how tough it must be for her family, especially when her accident is dominating the news cycle.

Anne Heche’s podcast co-host says episode was not recorded the day of the crash

Anne Heche is currently in a coma in critical condition in the ICU. Previous reports from her rep that she was stable were incorrect. As we heard yesterday, police have obtained a warrant to use blood previously drawn by the hospital for a potential DUI case against her. Anne was involved in both a high speed crash into a home, which was destroyed, and an earlier hit and run at a garage. There were no fatalities and Anne was the only person injured in the crashes.

A now-deleted episode of Anne’s podcast, Better Together, was released on Friday the day of the crash. Anne and her co-host, Heather Duffy, admitted drinking vodka and wine that day. The podcast’s producer, Ryan Tillotson, has stated that it was recorded on Tuesday, not Friday, and was removed to “due to inaccurate reporting.”

Anne’s friend Heather and Anne’s oldest son, Homer, 20, visited her at the hospital on Monday, where she remains in a coma. (Anne also has a 13-year-old son, Atlas.) Heather told reporters that she did not see Anne on Friday and said that the podcast was recorded on Tuesday.

Duffy says she did not see Heche on the day of the accident.

Duffy is Heche’s co-host on their podcast, “Better Together with Anne Heche and Heather Duffy.”

She also clarified that her most recent podcast episode with Heche, where the two women “drank vodka” and “wine chasers,” was recorded the Tuesday before the accident.

En route to her car, Duffy was asked about Heche’s status. She looked downcast but shared, “We’re hoping she’s going to be alright.”

Although Heche was previously described as stable, her representative told Fox News Digital that she “has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”

The rep also stated that Heche is in “extreme critical condition” and has “a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”

[From Fox News via Yahoo!]

I’m uncomfortable with a lot of the reporting around this story. While I don’t feel particularly sympathetic to Heche, she’s seriously injured and in a coma. If she pulls through she will surely have a difficult, painful recovery. I do believe in prosecuting drunk drivers to the full extent of the law and think that should happen here. Also I highly recommend sobriety to everyone. If you have ever wondered if you have a problem, do everything you can to quit drinking and using.

LAPD received warrant to test actress Anne Heche’s blood for DUI

Anne Heche was in two car crashes on Friday, the second of which was really bad and put her in the ICU and destroyed the home she crashed into. The home’s tenant and her pets were able to escape uninjured (there’s a GoFundMe) and Anne is in the hospital with severe burns. It was first reported that Anne was in stable condition, however, that information was inaccurate and her spokesperson said so to CNN, adding: “She has always remained in critical condition, slipping into a coma following the accident. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”

Before the second, more serious crash, Anne was involved in a hit-and-run with another property earlier that day. Because of the two crashes and potentially due to her podcast episode posted the same day as the crash, the LAPD has gotten a warrant to test Anne’s blood to determine if she was intoxicated while she was driving.

Anne Heche will have to give a blood sample to police after crashing her car into a home in Los Angeles.

The LAPD received a warrant to test the “Six Days, Seven Nights” star’s blood to see if she was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash, Page Six confirmed.

Officers believe Heche, 53, was intoxicated when she plowed her blue Mini Cooper into a house Friday and sustained severe burns after the vehicle caught fire, but her blood test results could take weeks, TMZ reported.

Sources also told the outlet that, at the minimum, the LAPD will refer Heche’s case to the LA City attorney, who could press hit-and-run charges, as she reportedly slammed into a garage and drove off before driving into the nearby house.

“The info we received this morning was a warrant was obtained the same day as the traffic collision, which was August 5. The warrant was to draw blood, and an investigation is ongoing pending the blood test results,” a rep for the LAPD told Page Six. “If found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanor DUI hit and run. No arrests have been made so far.”

Officials with the LAPD West Traffic Division also confirmed that Heche hit another vehicle before taking off again and hitting the house.

[From Page Six]

LAPD got the warrant the day of the crash because the blood draw has to be done within hours. They’re still waiting for the results, but Anne hasn’t been able to talk with them at all due to her serious injuries. As mentioned in the previous post, Anne’s podcast had posted an episode earlier that day during which Anne was drinking vodka and wine. The podcast episode was pulled down after the car crash and her podcast producer has since denied it was taped on the same day, saying that it was recorded earlier that week and posted later. A hair salon owner told The LA Times that Anne was in his salon that morning, just two miles from the crash site. He said she seemed pleasant and not intoxicated, but did say she grabbed his face, which is definitely odd behavior. From the overall reporting, it doesn’t seem like Anne was rushing away from anything and it’s unclear whether the accidents happened in her neighborhood or close to her home.  This sounds like a very dangerous situation and it’s fortunate that no one was killed. Hopefully all involved are okay.

Anne Heche is in the ICU after a car crash in a Los Angeles residential area

Actress Anne Heche is in stable condition after a serious car crash in a Los Angeles neighborhood. Anne was speeding down a residential street on Friday in her Mini Cooper (there’s footage from different sources) when she ran into a home and was engulfed in flames. Unfortunately Anne couldn’t be rescued until the fire was extinguished. She suffered severe burns and is in intensive care now. Anne’s representative has issued a statement.

Actress Anne Heche is in stable condition after she was involved in a fiery car crash on Friday that damaged a Los Angeles home, her representative has confirmed to ABC News.

The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed Saturday that Heche, 53, was the driver in the solo-vehicle crash.

LAPD sources told ABC News they suspect that Heche was allegedly driving at an excessive speed when the crash happened.

Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol could have been involved, which is standard in such a crash, sources said. The LAPD has been unable to speak with Heche in the hospital due to her condition, sources said.

“Anne is currently in stable condition,” her representative said in a statement to ABC News on Saturday. “Her family and friends ask for your thoughts and prayers and to respect her privacy during this difficult time.”

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a driver struck a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood around noon Friday, “causing structural compromise and erupting in heavy fire.” They rescued a woman found in the car, who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, the LAFD said.

Nearly 60 firefighters responded to extinguish the “stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure,” the department said.

There were no passengers in the car and no other injuries were reported, the LAFD said. The department would not confirm if Heche was the driver, citing medical privacy laws.

DMV records and police sources confirmed that the vehicle involved in the crash and fire was registered to Heche.

The LAPD’s West Traffic Division is investigating.

Authorities are also investigating an alleged misdemeanor hit-and-run incident before the fiery crash.

[From ABC News]

People has more on the after effects of the wreck, including the fact that the woman whose one story rental home Anne ran into, Lynne Mishele, is fine and was able to escape with her dogs and her tortoise, but that her possessions were destroyed. She was looked after in the immediate aftermath by her neighbors, who gave her clothing, food and a place to stay. There’s a GoFundMe to help her rebuild as well.

According to TMZ, this was the second car accident Anne was in that day. They report that she crashed “into a garage at an apartment complex [and] reversed and sped off from the first crash.” That must be the hit and run that ABC News is referring to, and it doesn’t sound like anyone was hurt in that incident thankfully.

CNN has the detail that an episode of Anne’s podcast, which has since been removed from Apple podcasts, was released on Friday before this accident. Anne and her co-host talk about drinking, I’m assuming that day, although it was possibly recorded earlier.

Heche remained in hospital as of Saturday evening and the significant nature of her injuries have prevented officers from interviewing her, the law enforcement source added.

Hours before Heche’s crash on Friday, a new episode of her podcast “Better Together,” was released but it has since been removed from their Apple Podcast landing page. During a portion of the podcast, Heche and her co-host, Heather Duffy, discuss drinking vodka and wine and Heche talks about having a “bad day.” It’s unclear when the podcast was recorded. CNN has reached out to Heche’s representatives for comment.

“Today’s been a very unique day,” Heche says in the podcast. “I don’t know what happened, sometimes days just suck and I don’t know if you ever have them, but some days Mama says are … some days are those no good very bad days. And I don’t know why some days just end up like this, and things don’t really rock me like that.”

[From CNN]

I hope that Anne is OK and that she is able to recover. Anne’s ex boyfriend, Thomas Jane, has said that she is expected to pull through. It sounds like she has a long road ahead of her.

Duchess Kate is ‘filled with horror’ whenever William rides his Ducati

TOO MUCH HAIR. Here are even more photos of Prince William and Duchess Kate, also known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn while in Scotland, which is where they are right now. They’re doing a day-trip to Dundee where they’re packing in like five or six events into one 24-hour period. By most reports, Prince George and Princess Charlotte did not fly out to Scotland with Will and Kate. The babies either were left with Nanny Maria or Carole Middleton (or both?), maybe in Berkshire, maybe in London, maybe at Anmer Hall. Who knows?

We do know that Will & Kate spent the night at St. Andrews, which is where they fell in love, at university. Although we know now – through the Duchess’s hagiographer Katie Nicholl – that Kate and William met before university and Kate basically threw herself into William’s path with all of her might once they got to St. Andrews. Anyway, Will and Kate stayed at the Old Course Hotel, in a room that goes for $470 a night. Maybe it was nice for them to have a little getaway from the kids. Meanwhile, this happened:

A local named Fearghas Simpson, 28, asked the Duchess if William still took his Ducati motorbike, which costs £20,000 and can go from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, out for a spin. The Prince was last seen riding the 190mph machine the night before the Royal Wedding in 2011.

Kate, who showcased a healthy glow and accessorised her look with coordinating blue drop earrings, a simple black clutch bag and suede gloves, replied: ‘He’s still riding it. It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it‎. I’m terrified. Hopefully, I’m going to keep George off it.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Huh… I didn’t even remember that William had/has a Ducati and I certainly didn’t know he still rides it. William sure loves that kind of stuff, flying helicopters, riding motorcycles, etc. It IS horrifying when you think about Will riding his Ducati, especially considering his mother died in one of the most famous car accidents in history. Pretty dangerous.

Oh, and I have the IDs on the boots and the clutch too. Kate paired her bespoke Christopher Kane coat with the same Aquatalia boots she’s worn before, plus a Stuart Weitzman clutch. She’s also wearing her sapphire-and-diamond earrings, the ones that match her ring.

Willow & Jaden Smith: We can control time & education is useless

Willow Smith

Willow and Jaden Smith are living proof that a super-permissive set of parents can churn out some spacey kids. Will Smith believes that children should be given a lot of control at an early age, which is the way that Scientologists raise their children. The Smiths founded a now-defunct school that used CO$ teaching methods; so the little bit of formal education that Jaden and Willow have received has been Scientology-based.

These kids no longer go to school even though Willow is still 14, and Jaden is 16. He regularly tweets nonsensical blather, including telling his followers that school is a “tool to brainwash the youth,” and babies are more intelligent than adults. That last part sounds very CO$, which believes that children are simply adult souls trapped in younger bodies.

I’m not making fun of Jaden’s intelligence. He hasn’t received regular schooling, and it shows. Jaden and Willow have been allowed to do whatever they want for a long time. They both have new albums this month, so the NYT’s T mag profiled them, and it’s a doozy. The whole interview is here. Willow claims to be really into quantum physics, which was of interest to L. Ron Hubbard as he wrote the sci-fi novels that form the basis of Scientology. Former upper-echelon CO$ member Marty Rathbun has written at length about how quantum physics can be useful in “understanding” CO$.

The NYT journo only asks a few questions of Willow and Jaden, and they run a bizarre relay-monologue that continues unabated. Willow goes off on tangents like this: “And the feeling of being like, this is a fragment of a holographic reality that a higher consciousness made.” Then they start talking about controlling time:

On time
WILLOW: “I mean, time for me, I can make it go slow or fast, however I please, and that’s how I know it doesn’t exist.

JADEN: “It’s proven that how time moves for you depends on where you are in the universe. It’s relative to beings and other places. But on the level of being here on earth, if you are aware in a moment, one second can last a year. And if you are unaware, your whole childhood, your whole life can pass by in six seconds. But it’s also such a thing that you can get lost in.”

WILLOW: “Because living.”

JADEN: “Right, because you have to live. There’s a theoretical physicist inside all of our minds, and you can talk and talk, but it’s living.”

On breathing:
WILLOW: “Breathing is meditation; life is a meditation. You have to breathe in order to live, so breathing is how you get in touch with the sacred space of your heart.”

JADEN: “When babies are born, their soft spots bump: It has, like, a heartbeat in it. That’s because energy is coming through their body, up and down.”

WILLOW: “Prana energy.”

JADEN: “It’s prana energy because they still breathe through their stomach. They remember. Babies remember.”

WILLOW: “When they’re in the stomach, they’re so aware, putting all their bones together, putting all their ligaments together. But they’re shocked by this harsh world.”

JADEN: “By the chemicals and things, and then slowly…”

WILLOW: “As they grow up, they start losing.”

JADEN: “You know, they become just like us.”

On careers
JADEN: “What’s your job, what’s your career? Nah, I am. I’m going to imprint myself on everything in this world.”

School is the unlearning of things:
JADEN: “Kids who go to normal school are so teenagery, so angsty.”

WILLOW: “They never want to do anything, they’re so tired.”

JADEN: “You never learn anything in school. Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver’s ed? What’s up? I still haven’t been to driver’s ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can’t see how driver’s ed is really helping them out.”

WILLOW: “I went to school for one year. It was the best experience but the worst experience. The best experience because I was, like, ‘Oh, now I know why kids are so depressed.’ But it was the worst experience because I was depressed.”

JADEN: “I have a goal to be just the most craziest person of all time. And when I say craziest, I mean, like, I want to do like Olympic-level things. I want to be the most durable person on the planet.”

WILLOW: “I think by the time we’re 30 or 20, we’re going to be climbing as many mountains as we can possibly climb.”

[From NYT – T Magazine]

Praise Xenu, these kids’ words read like robotic gibberish. They don’t know why babies’ soft spots exist, and they’re “in the stomach“? *shakes head* Jaden’s logic on how driver’s ed doesn’t prevent accidents is sad. That’s like saying doctors shouldn’t exist because people still die every day. Come to think of it, Scientologists don’t believe in medical care. They also believe that car accidents only happen to people who hang with non-CO$ types (suppressive persons). Jaden wants to be “the most durable person on the planet,” which may have something to do with the Clear (or practically immortal) state. I don’t know where the “prana” fixation fits in with the CO$. That word originated from in Hindu philosophy, and quantum physics grabbed onto the term.

Will and Jada have the freedom to raise (or not raise) their kids however they see fit. They’re doing Willow and Jaden a huge disservice, but there’s enough family money to pad these kids’ lives (and therapy sessions) forever. What bothers me is that Jaden and Willow make music that kids listen to. My teenage daughter has heard a few of Willow’s songs and enjoyed them. We’ve looked at Jaden’s crazy tweets together and discussed. Normal parents must work overtime when influential, lazy parents like Will and Jada Smith let their own kids talk smack about education.
