Carrie Underwood allegedly threw a hissy fit over her janky inauguration performance

Last week, Country Karen Carrie Underwood was confirmed to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration. People were not surprised, although it did seem indicative of a larger movement. Trump supporters are taking their “masks” off – while there was reticence eight years ago to associate with Trump, that reticence does not exist anymore. Well, funny story. Underwood’s “America the Beautiful” performance was beset by technical difficulties, so she had to warble that sh-t out a cappella. It did not go well.

LOL. That’s what you get for throwing your lot in with the Trumpers. Who knew that cozying up to the American Idiocracy would lead to disaster, huh? According to the Mail, Carrie threw a hissy fit afterwards.

Carrie Underwood was left feeling like she had not been ‘afforded the same level of respect’ as the likes of Beyoncé and Lady Gaga for her performance at Donald Trump’s 2025 Presidential Inauguration, sources have revealed. The American Idol star’s rendition of America The Beautiful was hit by shock technical difficulties on Monday, leading the chart-topper to perform a capella due to issues with the backing track.

Following the performance, an insider exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com that the singer, 41, was furious over the fact she wasn’t given a ‘stage or platform even’ like previous performers. This was presumably because the event was moved inside at the last minute on Friday as extreme cold weather was predicted for the capital on Monday. However, The insider explained that this had a large impact on the singer’s performance, revealing: ‘Carrie was dissatisfied with her performance at the event, primarily due to the limited space she was given, which left her feeling cramped and uncomfortable.’

The source added: ‘Her anxiety was high throughout the performance, and she felt that she was not afforded the same level of respect or admiration that previous performers, such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, had received. She felt as if she was ushered in and out and had a mini hissy fit afterwards.’

The insider continued: ‘She is used to playing at massive venues with a stage to herself. She was not given a stage or a platform even. She felt like she was literally just in a room with people all around her and a microphone. This threw off the acoustics.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I absolutely believe she feels this way, and I believe she probably had a hissy fit backstage. She genuinely got screwed over ten different ways – the move indoors, the cramped quarters, the weird acoustics, the technical difficulties with the playback. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson… none of them had any of those difficulties. Because they performed at Democratic presidents’ inaugurations. You throw your lot in with Trump, you’re gonna get what you ask for.

Carrie Underwood will perform ‘America the Beautiful’ at Donald Trump’s inauguration

Pretty sure if you look up “Country Karen” in the dictionary, Carrie Underwood’s photo appears. Carrie Underwood has always had the look, energy, and vibe of a Karen. We also know that she’s politically conservative, although she’s rarely gone out of her way to align herself to the Republican Party on the record. But it’s a brave new world now that 49% of American voters elected that orange monster yet again. Lots of bigots, racists, fascists, abusers and dumbasses feel like they have a blank check to fly their freak flag. Carrie is one of them – she has agreed to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform at President-elect Trump’s inauguration next week, Trump’s transition team confirmed to Axios Monday.

Why it matters: Underwood is a more high-profile performer than the musical guests at Trump’s 2017 inauguration, signaling that the entertainment industry’s hesitance to embrace Trump has thawed since he left office.

The big picture: One of the staples of a presidential inauguration is a musical performance by a buzzy musical star, and this year the honor will go to Underwood, who is set to perform a rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

The Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club will accompany her.

A representative from CAA, which represents Underwood, did not provide Axios with comment before publication. Trump’s 2017 inauguration day featured performances from the Radio City Rockettes and Jackie Evancho, a former runner-up on “America’s Got Talent.” In 2017, the inaugural committee faced difficulties finding guests willing to perform at the celebration.

[From Axios]

After Axios and TMZ broke the story, Carrie released a statement, confirming her performance: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Humbled? We must all come together? Historic event? Those white supremacists really think they’re pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes, don’t they? Anyway, it’s not like I really cared about Underwood to begin with, but I hope everyone who cozies up to Trump gets exactly what they deserve. If you dance with the devil…

Carrie Underwood doesn’t work out to be a certain size anymore

Carrie Underwood has a new interview with People Magazine promoting her partnership with Bodyarmour sports drink. As extra as Carrie can be, I think she’s a good spokesperson for fitness-related products. She seems strong and you can tell from her interviews that she genuinely loves working out. Carrie told People that she used to work out to be a certain size, which she’s said in the past. I remember an interview where she said she used to write down everything she ate. She did that to lose weight after she gained fame at an early age on American Idol. Carrie told People that her exercise goals have changed and that she now works out to feel strong and live longer. She’s only 39! “Longevity” is surely relative in her industry though and she needs to be fit in order to perform.

“I feel like earlier in my career I was working out more to be a certain size or fit into a certain aesthetic that I thought I wanted to be,” she tells PEOPLE about kicking off her career at age 22 after winning American Idol. “And now I feel like I work out more to be strong and to have energy and longevity.”

“It really is playing the long game, right?” she says. “I’ve worked out a whole lot and been frustrated because it wasn’t the results that I wanted. I feel like now at this point in my life, you really do learn that it is a lifestyle, it’s balance. It is overall taking care of yourself.”

“It really is playing the long game, right?” she says. “I’ve worked out a whole lot and been frustrated because it wasn’t the results that I wanted. I feel like now at this point in my life, you really do learn that it is a lifestyle, it’s balance. It is overall taking care of yourself.”

“When I’m at home, I feel like I’m mom-ing it. I’m doing the laundry, packing the lunches, I’m always cleaning,” Underwood explains. “So when I’m on the road and I live on a bus or in a hotel room, I’m not having to do all that stuff so it frees up a little time. My schedule is still very regimented and there’s all this stuff that I do, but my mornings are a little bit more flexible.”

The “Before He Cheats” singer says that keeping up her fitness is essential to make it through her concerts. “It’s surprisingly physical being on stage — there’s a lot of cardio. I’m running around in heels and I honestly write songs that I don’t give myself time to breathe,” she quips.

[From People]

I like this approach and need to take it. Over the holidays I overindulged and got back to my pandemic weight. While it’s only a few pounds I’ve been hard on myself about it. It would be a relief to stop focusing on the number on the scale and think about feeling better in general. It’s a paradigm shift to think of it as playing the long game and striving for balance, not an ideal. Also, recently I quit the punishing workouts I’ve was doing to focus more on dance fitness. I may not be getting fit as quickly, but I actually enjoy going to gym and have a better time.

Kelly Rowland defended Chris Brown with her whole chest at the AMAs

The American Music Awards were held last night and… yeah, I didn’t watch them, my bad. In my defense, my stomach wasn’t right and I threw up and I was just trying to rest and hydrate in the evening. Could I have also turned on the AMAs? Probably, but I didn’t, so that’s on me. You can see a list of winners here at CNN. There was also at least one scandalous/noteworthy moment, one which is dominating the post-AMA headlines. It involved Kelly Rowland, who attended the show as a presenter. She looked like a million bucks, and she was given a big presenting job: Favorite Male R&B Artist. Unfortunately for everyone, the winner of that AMA was Chris Brown.

Brown wasn’t even there – he was originally scheduled to perform at the AMAs as part of a Michael Jackson tribute, but the AMAs told him to stay home at the last minute (he was mad about it too). When Kelly announced his name, the audience booed the serial domestic abuser. Kelly told the audience: “Now Chris Brown is not here tonight so I’m accepting this award on his behalf… Excuse me… chill out. But I wanted to tell Chris, thank you so much for making great R&B music and I want to tell him thank you for being an incredible performer. I’ll take this award — bring it to you. I love you. Congratulations. And congratulations to all the nominees in this category.” A whole mess. This was a failure at every level, from Kelly saying that sh-t to the AMAs inviting Chris (then uninviting him), etc. Gross.

Taylor Swift skipped the red carpet, but here are some photos of her backstage. She wore a jumpsuit by The Blonds. She won a bunch of AMAs, like always. She actually won in all six of the categories in which she was nominated, making her the most-decorated AMA winner of all time, with forty AMAs overall.

Carrie Underwood ‘liked’ a tweet about how mask mandates for kids are bad

Carrie Underwood arrives at the 2019 American Music Awards held at Microsoft Theatre L.A. Live on November 24, 2019 in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Carrie Underwood is a country singer/superstar, married to a hockey player, surrounded by Republicans at work and at home in Nashville. Of course she’s a Republican! Everything about her gives off Mega-Karen vibes. She seems politically conservative, to put it mildly. So is it a huge surprise that Carrie Underwood briefly “liked” a tweet from Matt Walsh about how the mask mandate in Nashville schools is “cruel and indefensible”? No, not really:

So Carrie Underwood is an anti-masker? Jesus take the wheel indeed 😷 pic.twitter.com/6x2OQTVCdP

— Covid Underwood (@DPB0101) August 17, 2021

I checked her Twitter this morning and she “unliked” this pretty fast, but not fast enough. People got screencaps and everyone saw it and Carrie was trending on Twitter for much of the past 24 hours. So, now we know: Carrie Underwood is an anti-masker who hates the idea of children wearing masks in school to protect themselves and each other. Most of the studies indicate that kids are adaptable, and that they are fine with wearing masks in school. It’s the adults who are having these bonkers, assy meltdowns.

Of course MAGAs have embraced Carrie as one of their own. They needed a new “Aryan goddess” after Taylor Swift started talking about Juneteenth and how she votes for Democrats. One thing I’ll say about the MAGAs embracing Carrie is that… I bet they were already fans before now. Carrie’s not really adding new people to her fanbase, she’s just losing centrist/liberal fans.

Carrie Underwood had the audacity to like @MattWalshBlog’s argument against masks on kids in Nashville schools and now the blue checks are trying to cancel her: https://t.co/mDrPBQ9r1A

Carrie Underwood liked @MattWalshBlog post feat. his speech to Nashville school board opposing mask mandates for kids.

Leftist mob is now swarming her, claiming she’s “anti-vax” tho Walsh never mentioned vaccines. Because that’s easiest way to smear common sense these days. https://t.co/qQcuFFUwGO

Carrie Underwood Talks Post-Baby Workout Plan

carrie-060315-_4_0

On getting back in shape after pregnancy:

“Having a baby definitely changes your routine, and I have to work around his schedule. Whenever he goes to sleep, I do the things I need to do for myself and make workouts happen when they can. I really haven’t taken that much time ‘off’ because there are always things to do.”

“Doing something, hiking, going for a run, lifting weights, boxing, doing things like that. It makes me feel good. It is great to do something for me, and that is something for me. I think that women should make time. A little time, 20 minutes, 30 minutes.”

… says Carrie, who gave birth 3 months ago.

How did Allison Williams & Christopher Walken do in the live Peter Pan special?

Screen Shot 2014-12-05 at 10.32.55 AM_edited-1
Last night was the live special of Peter Pan, starring Girls‘ Allison Williams in the title role and also featuring Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. Unlike Carrie Underwood’s turn in the live production of The Sound of Music, this was generally considered a success, if a bit long and boring. The show clocked in at three hours and didn’t change enough of the original source material to keep everyone’s interest. Williams is said to have done a passable to decent job, I’ve watched some of it and her singing voice was excellent. If she was lip syncing at any point it was hard to tell. Williams’ British accent was a bit wonky, but it wasn’t overly noticeable and she made up for it with a solid performance.

Screen Shot 2014-12-05 at 10.34.58 AM_edited-1

The most buzz is centering around Christopher Walken’s bizarre performance. Walken came in as Captain Hook about a half hour in to the show. He of course delivered his lines in that halting way of his, which doesn’t translate well to a live performance. He kept looking down and off into the distance. When Walken starting singing and dancing he came onto his own, though. There was something so delightful and campy about him. Here’s People Magazine’s assessment of the show, and they have more at the source.

Allison Williams of Girls made a much more committed Peter than Carrie Underwood did a Maria von Trapp in last year’s endless Sound of Music Live!, and Christopher Walken’s extremely peculiar Captain Hook was a triumph.

Maybe a disaster. But more of a triumph.

Williams, her hair boyishly short in the androgynous tradition of actresses cast in the title role, looked like Keira Knightley’s brother. Which is precisely how Peter Pan should look. And her singing was both firm and light for Peter’s songs, including the standards I Gotta Crow and I Won’t Grow Up.

What was lacking was any rough-and-tumble humor – isn’t there a degree of macho self-consciousness and posturing in Peter? Williams was a bit posh.

But odd inconsistencies are hard to avoid with this character and with this story. J.M. Barrie’s tale is strewn with gender, sexual and psychological issues that can be parsed until the inevitable day that Neverland is gentrified and converted into condos.

For anyone anticipating Walken as Hook, his entrance in the role was so strange the entire production temporarily ground to a halt.

Walken seemed reluctant to look anywhere but down, as if Hook were worried about tripping on the knots in his ship’s wooden floor. He worked his way through the dialogue and lyrics with a slowness that was occasionally sinuous, and sometimes, almost aggressive, as if he fully intended to refuse to walk any plank he might be shown.

[From People]

In the live performance, they changed the lyrics to the original racist “Ugg-A-Wugg” song, performed by Tiger Lilly, her crew, Peter Pan, and The Lost Boys. The NBC production hired a Native American songwriter to rewrite the gibberish song to be more authentic. The Hollywood Reporter writes that there was still a race issue in the show in that The Lost Boys were mostly white (I did spot at least one minority Lost Boy) while Tiger Lily’s gang was racially diverse.

Overall, the show went off without a hitch. There’s still the matter of how long it was and whether these type of old school musicals translate well to the small screen. I don’t think they do, but people are watching them. Even if they’re hate-watching, they’re still watching.

Here’s Christopher Walken doing Hook’s Waltz.
