Paul Walter Hauser does not want to be compared to Vin Diesel: I am on time

Paul Walker Hauser has been kicking it around Hollywood as a supporting character actor for almost 20 years. He’s been in films such as I, Tonya and Richard Jewell, as well as TV shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Cobra Kai, and Reno 911!. Paul is currently starring as Embarrassment in Inside Out 2, which we saw over the weekend. It was really good! Anyway, one of those interviews was with CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell. It was Paul and Lewis Black sitting down with O’Connell. During the interview, O’Connell tried comparing Paul’s career trajectory to Vin Diesel’s, because Diesel has also done a stint in voice acting, saying “I am Groot” over the course of six Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Well, Paul shut that down real quick. He does not want to be compared to someone that he considers to be very unpleasant.

While promoting Inside Out 2, Hauser, and comedian Lewis Black, were chatting with someone at Cinemablend. The interviewer told Hauser that he was having a Vin Diesel-like arc, but the Cruella star shut them down quickly. “Please don’t say that. I like to think I am on time and approachable,” Hauser noted, much to the delight of Lewis Black. “I love people, but when I hear stories about Hollywood actors who get paid really well and mistreat people… I out them constantly, and it’s a blast.”

[From Pajiba]

Good on Paul for calling Vin out. You can watch the clip below, and you can tell Black is delighted by it all. Paul and Vin have never worked together so his comments came from what he’s heard from other people who have worked with him before. I would be so embarrassed if my coworkers were talking about how awful my behavior is but that’s because I have a sense of shame and try to treat people with respect. Anyway, Vin’s behavior has been whispered about for years. The first time I remember thinking, “Oh that guy’s a jerk, too bad” was after his beef with Dwayne Johnson. And yes, I know, The Rock has a bit of a reputation himself.

I wish more steadily working and respected actors like Paul would speak out about actors who are nightmares to deal with, whether on set or off. I know a lot of people would be afraid of doing that and ruining their careers, but as we saw with Ellen, it only takes one person to poke a hole in the bucket before the water starts rushing out. In December, Vin’s former assistant sued him for sexual battery, which got covered up pretty quickly, probably because it happened right before Christmas. Since Paul shading Vin has gone viral, it’ll be fun to watch who else speaks out about Vin’s bad behavior.

Dwayne Johnson on Vin Diesel: I told him I would not be returning to Fast & Furious

The Rock at the Red Notice premiere in November

Dwayne Johnson has a new interview with CNN that reads like a pitch for himself. He’s talking business for the most part and the piece has an “executive in a meeting” vibe. I guess you have to be that way to reach his astronomical level of success. To his credit, The Rock remains approachable, humble and sounds genuinely grateful. The most interesting part of this interview was when he talked more smack about Vin Diesel. These two have been in a public feud for over five years. It’s been going on so long it’s hard to keep track. Dwayne has been somewhat terse about Vin in the past, but it’s clear there’s no love lost there.

CNN journalist Chloe Melas asked Dwayne about Vin’s kind of pathetic (my words) plea to get him to do Fast 10. If you recall, Dwayne dropped out of Fast 9 due to falling out with Vin. Then Vin laid it on thick in November to appeal to Dwayne to come back for the tenth movie, writing on Instagram “my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to PablRN_20201102_36082r

RN_20200221_12014ro. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10!” The Rock isn’t having that. Here’s what he told CNN:

There was a lot of buzz that you may rejoin the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. We saw that Vin Diesel recently posted he wants you back. We know you addressed potentially returning months ago, but were you surprised by Vin’s post?

“I was very surprised by Vin’s recent post. This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly – and privately – that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.

Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise with gratitude and grace. It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I’m confident in the ‘Fast’ universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”

You’ve said in the past, I believe specifically in your interview for your recent Vanity Fair cover, that you would not run for President in 2024 because you “don’t know a thing about politics.” Yet, according to a poll this spring, almost half of Americans would vote in your favor. Could “The Rock” still be a potential presidential candidate in the future?

“Well, I think that poll of almost half of Americans being in favor of me running for president is so humbling. It sits me down and I don’t know any other way to describe it. To have a little ability to potentially galvanize our country is humbling, very humbling. Might be the Teremana talking here but I still don’t know a damn thing about being a politician. I don’t know if I have that politician gene in my DNA. Leader? Yes. Patriot? All day long. Politician? No.

I feel the best position I can be in right now is to be a trusted, nonjudgmental place for people; regardless of what side of the street you live on, what color you are, what you do for a living, how you choose to live your life, what your bank account says, whether you drive a car or take the bus. I don’t care. None of that matters to me. Just work hard, take care of your family, be good to people, be kind to people, be straight up, honor your word and always [have] some fun along the way. And don’t be an a**hole. Like I said, I don’t think I’d make a good politician.”

[From CNN]

I love how Dwayne called out Vin’s manipulation and said he already reached a decision and communicated that to Vin, end of story. I also think if Vin wasn’t so cheesy and insistent that Dwayne would have made a cameo in one of the final Fast movies. Incidentally, Fast 10 won’t be the last one. It’s part one of a two part finale. As for his political ambitions, I think The Rock is weighing his options still. Note that he never said directly “no, I will not run for president,” he said that he wouldn’t make a good politician. That reads like he’s leaving his options open. He must have seen how people responded to Matthew McConaughey’s both-sides approach. Hopefully he has ruled it out.

Dwayne Johnson Feuds Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel lays it on thick to try to get The Rock to do Fast 10

Oh my gosh, are we really talking about Fast & Furious 10 already? I feel like we’re still in the thick of F9. But I guess they put “fast” in the title for a reason. And “furious,” for that matter, since the franchise has given rise to a five-year feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne The Rock Johnson. We still don’t totally know what happened, although it’s likely that Vin acted superior on set and DJ called him out. Words were exchanged – probably both publicly and heatedly. However, both sides claim all has been fixed. Not forgiven, necessarily, but fixed, which I think translates to “Universal offered us enough money to work together.” Although, they didn’t actually film together. Anyway, now that Fast 10 is being discussed, Vin is reaching out to DJ to get him to make it. And by reaching out, I mean attempting a public guilt trip. Vin posted the throwback shot above to accompany an open letter to get The Rock to come play. Because DJ = $$$. Sorry – I mean, family and all that.

My little brother Dwayne… the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.

[From Instagram via CNN]

Oh, DJ will love this passive aggressive bs. And one of the reasons we love Dj is because he doesn’t usually let things like this slide. He’ll respond. Until then, we’ll have to read between the lines. I assume this open letter was written because an actual attempt to contact DJ was made and rebuffed. I understand, the man is making every movie out there. So this is Vin’s way to lure him back? And more importantly, does he really think this is going to work? I would think if DJ was on the fence, this would firmly push him into the Hell No side of the yard. He doesn’t seem like a person who appreciates being told what he is obligated to do, especially with his career. I apologize, I don’t follow this franchise, but could they make Fast 10 without Hobbs? Even without much FF knowledge, I agree it would be foolhardy to recast him. I know I tend to fan over DJ, but I really don’t think he would leave an entire cast in the lurch if they could not proceed without him. Of course, if Vin is that much of an a-hole, he may have no choice. As for the whole ‘destiny’ part of Vin’s plea, I might have to side with him on this one minor point. But only because I would far prefer that Hobbs is DJ’s destiny than him running for president.

“I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo.” I was skimming through IMDb and I can’t find a ‘Pablo’ character, actor, director or writer. I hope I’m wrong, but does Pablo refer to the late Paul Walker? I really don’t want to think Vin is invoking his name in this stupid feud with DJ, especially as emotional blackmail to get him to make the 10th installment of a franchise. That would really muddy the good feelings I had about Vin walking Paul’s daughter down the aisle.

Vin Diesel walked Paul Walker’s daughter down the aisle at her wedding

It’s been eight years since we tragically lost actor Paul Walker. Paul left behind his daughter Meadow Rain and his Fast and Furious cast mates have been a part of her life as she grew up. Meadow is now twenty-two years old and she just got married. Meadow shared a black and white video where she’s preparing to marry Louis Thornton-Allan on a beach in the Dominican Republic. In the clip Meadow’s godfather, Vin Diesel, walks her down the aisle. Jordana Brewster was also there. Meadow told Vogue that her aunt Paloma helped plan the wedding. Below are a few highlights via People:

“We’re married !!!!” Meadow wrote in the caption of the video.

Diesel, Meadow’s godfather, can be seen standing next to the bride — who wore a custom Givenchy Haute Couture dress — in the video while Brewster gave the model a hug. Another photo featured Diesel walking his goddaughter down the aisle.

In the video post, Meadow and Thornton-Allan hop into a white car while posing for wedding photographs.

Meadow told Vogue the pandemic “impacted our plans” when it came to planning their nuptials.

“Louis’s family wasn’t able to attend,” she said. “A lot of close friends whom we consider family were also unable to attend due to travel restrictions.”

It was Meadow’s aunt Paloma who helped the couple plan their wedding.

“She did an incredible job,” Meadow told Vogue. “We couldn’t have imagined it to be any more perfect and personal—and honestly it was easy and simple. Louis and I knew exactly what we wanted from the start. It was a very intimate celebration.”

After their wedding ceremony, a beach party ensued with Meadow divulging, “We were all barefoot, dancing in the sand.”

“To finish the night, there was a wonderful display of fireworks, and we lit lanterns into the picturesque night sky,” she told the magazine.

This is definitely my feel good story of the week. I will never forget when I learned that Paul Walker died in that crash. I remember how heartbroken I was. He just seemed like a good guy. I was doubly heartbroken when I found out Paul had a teen daughter that he was leaving behind. Over the years, I wondered if Meadow was being looked after and loved. It rally warmed my heart to see that Meadow turned out so well. I am so happy to see that she found love and is now married. Admittedly, her husband reminds me of Paul (I know, I know).

I am also shocked that Meadow is now 22. Sometimes I forget how quickly people grow up. It was beautiful to see that Paul’s castmates, Vin and Jordana, are still in contact with Meadow and it made me smile to see Vin walk Meadow down the aisle. I am sure Paul, wherever he may be now, is proud of his friends for being there for his daughter. More importantly, I am sure Paul is proud of the way Meadow is leading her life. I wish Meadow and Louis luck on their marriage.

Vin Diesel would love to do a FATF musical, has been ‘dying’ to do a musical

Vin Diesel attends The premiere of

The ninth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise just came out last week. FATF9 has managed to bring in $70 million so far. I am sure if we weren’t in a pandemic, that number would be much higher. Vin Diesel appeared on the Kelly Clarkson show last week. Kelly asked Vin if he would do a FATF musical if the opportunity presented itself. Here is where things got interesting, Vin said he would, because he has always wanted to be in a musical. Vin also said that he was almost cast in Steven Spielberg’s Guys and Doll reboot. Below are a few more highlights via People:

When host Kelly Clarkson, 39, asked him if he’d ever do a musical of the franchise, the actor said, “I’m dying to do a musical, so yes, I would!”

“I’ve been dying to do a musical my whole life,” he continued, revealing he was “this close to doing Guys and Dolls with Steven Spielberg, but we ended up not doing that.”

He added, “For the longest time, I thought the Nathan Detroit role in Guys and Dolls would be a very interesting one to revamp, the one that Frank Sinatra played in Guys and Dolls.”

Diesel said he credits his family with his love for the arts, including musicals.

“My family is artistic, and I’m blessed to have that and I’m blessed to be in a family that is supportive of these crazy dreams,” he said. “I would encourage everyone to support the people who want to think outside the box and dream something impossible because there’s great beauty in that.”

[From People]

I find the fact that Vin Diesel was almost in Spielberg’s Guys and Dolls fascinating because I do not think Vin has a lot of range. In fact, I was dragging him last week on Twitter because because Vincent explained that his years-long feud with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was due to him giving Dwayne tough love to make Dwayne step up his acting game. The absolute cheek of Vin “one emotion” Diesel for saying such a thing. We already know that Keanu Reeves has more acting range, but can Vin Diesel sing? It’s doubtful, but there’s always autotune.

Now that I am done dragging Vinnie, I am not sure if I like the idea of the FATF franchise being turned into a musical unless it has a Grease feel to it. That is the only way I can see a FATF musical working. There will need to be a whole bunch of greasy haired tough guys in leather singing about their cars. It could happen, musicals are seeing a resurgence. As one of the producers of the franchise, I am sure Vin will have some sway in making his dream of a FATF musical a reality. In the meantime, I hope Vin gets some voice lessons to prepare.

Keanu Reeves: ‘I haven’t been getting many offers from the studios… it sucks’

wenn21854183

Here are some photos of Keanu Reeves at last night’s Hollywood screening of his new film, John Wick. I have to say… I think the photographers on the red carpet were in love with him. There are about a million close-up shots of just Keanu’s 50-year-old vampire face. Enjoy! Keanu is looking particularly great these days, so much so that any “would you hit it?” type of question is answered with a resounding “YES!” from every corner of the globe. But for whatever reason, Keanu isn’t getting major studio love these days. And I don’t know why? He has a stellar reputation for being a lovely guy to cast and crew alike. He works hard. He’s constantly underestimated. Keanu talked a little bit about studio films versus indies in a new interview with Indie Wire:

Indie Wire: You aren’t doing many studio movies these days. “John Wick” was produced independently and acquired later by Lionsgate. Do you have a preference for indies over studio projects?
Keanu:
Not really. The last studio movie I did was “47 Ronin,” but before that it had been a long time — probably “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” So I haven’t been getting many offers from the studios.

IW: Are you OK with that?
Keanu:
No, it sucks, but it’s just the way it is. You can have positive and negative experiences, but what I like about studios are the resources and the worlds that they can create. Obviously, a lot of good filmmakers work on studio movies. Even when I was working on studio movies more often, I was always doing independent movies. So for me, that was just not happening, but I want to keep going, making things, and telling stories. I want to be able to do that — to be an actor, a director, to produce, you know? If we’re going to do a delineation between studio and independent [films], I was always hoping to do both.

[From Indie Wire]

Part of me thinks that it’s interesting sociologically that Keanu is facing the same dilemma that many over-40 actresses face: he’s a movie star from a different era of Hollywood filmmaking and studios don’t want to pay a 50-year-old to be the lead anymore. He’s aged out of the current teenage-boy-audience-driven filmmaking. And unlike the other aging action stars – Bruce Willis, Arnold, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, etc – Keanu doesn’t have a major franchise to endlessly milk with neverending sequels. Huh. Keanu has more in common with Diane Lane than Bruce Willis.
