Jonny Lee Miller felt ‘fury’ when Angelina Jolie told him about Harvey Weinstein

Jonny Lee Miller is currently in London, doing a West End play called A Mirror. The play has gotten great reviews and everyone’s like “wow, Jonny should do more stage work.” It’s also a little bit funny to see JLM do so much promotion for this play, much more than he did for The Crown (where he played John Major). Jonny’s latest interview in the Independent is actually the first time he’s addressed Angelina Jolie’s comments that she told Jonny about Harvey Weinstein assaulting her back in the 1990s. Jolie has said, in a couple of interviews, that after Weinstein assaulted her, she told Jonny and some other industry people to stay away from Weinstein.. In 2021, Jolie told the Guardian: “It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape. I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him. I was asked to do The Aviator, but I said no because he was involved. I never associated or worked with him again. It was hard for me when Brad did.” Jonny finally spoke about it and he’s also speaking about his twelfth year of sobriety. Some highlights:

He was a nightmare in his 20s: “I was a nightmare! I got sent on all these meetings and auditions, and I was just not good at any of it. God, I had a very embarrassing audition for Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo Juliet. I didn’t get that I was supposed to be, like, prepared about Shakespeare…. It still makes me cringe. It’s just the way it went down. But here we are. F*** it! It’s whatever, man.”

He flailed around while his friends (Jude Law, Ewan McGregor) became movie stars: “I was young and foolish. I suppose I had a certain amount of arrogance, where I was like… ‘This is bulls***!’ So I ran away from my life and hid in LA for a couple of years, not taking advantage of career opportunities. But that’s just how life is sometimes. I wasn’t really smart about stuff.”

On Angelina Jolie telling him about Harvey Weinstein: “My memory is a bit hazy, but I remember feeling fury. I actually wanted to be more proactive about it, but it was 100 per cent her decision and you have to swallow your male bulls***. I was gonna hire someone to f***ing…” He trails off. “But I didn’t. I had some connections.” I laugh, nervously. Miller does not. And Jolie told him not to? “Yeah. Because it would mean it becomes about you, right? And you wanting to prove how much you care – ‘No one’s going to f***ing do that to my people.’ But what you need to do is listen to your partner. Amazingly, that was the one thing I was able to get right. You know, I was raised by women. I have three sisters. And [Jolie] is a very smart lady. She knows what’s best for her.”

Living with Jude Law in the early days. He says he was the messier of the two – he remembers Law being an early “nester”, someone stylish and resourceful, while he was more scatterbrained. When Miller got Hackers and the pair moved to nicer digs in Primrose Hill, it was Law who carefully boxed up all of his belongings for him while he was overseas filming.

He’s never felt particularly creative. “I’m imaginative, but I’m not creative. My sisters are creative. They can draw and paint. But I don’t, and can’t, and don’t have a desire to. Acting is more observational, I suppose. You’re fulfilling someone else’s vision, so you’re just a small part of it.”

Coparenting his 15-year-old son Buster with his ex Michele Hicks. “Again, it comes back to swallowing your pride. You’ve got to remember who the most important person in any given situation is.” He’s relieved that his son appears to have absolutely no interest in acting. “I think that might be quite healthy. I feel like wanting to express yourself when you’re little might be to do with things not being great at home. You’re wanting to be heard. And mine and Michele’s whole f***ing vibe is that he’s heard.”

He’s more than 12 years sober: During a podcast appearance in December, he said he had spent much of the aftermath of Trainspotting in a haze: he was addicted to heroin for several years, before replacing it with alcohol and cocaine. In 2012, he got sober. “I’d never talked about it for a number of reasons, partly out of worry about getting insured for work. But f*** that, you know? You never know who needs to hear a positive story.” He tells me he’s reluctant to go into too much detail about his struggles today, having already “spilled his guts” on the aforementioned podcast. “But getting sober was the best thing I’ve ever done. Oddly, Elementary came along when I’d been sober for about six months. And honestly it was a gift.”

[From The Independent]

Before his promotion for this play, I honestly didn’t know that he had spent years addicted to heroin, cocaine and alcohol, nor did I realize that he had started talking about his sobriety in recent months. It adds another layer to his performance and work in Elementary, which is (IMO) one of the best television shows about addiction and recovery, all of it beautifully and movingly acted by JLM. As for what he says about Jolie and Weinstein… from what Jolie has said, she really appreciated the fact that Jonny listened to her and believed her. I wonder if she knew that Jonny had a moment where he was going to organize a hit on Weinstein. And the way he still talks about Angie, never a bad word, full of praise – sob, they need to get back together.

Elizabeth Debicki stuns in a black Dior gown for ‘The Crown’ London premiere

Here are some photos from the premiere event for The Crown Season 5 last night in London. I’m including photos of Elizabeth Debicki – wearing an elegant, Diana-esque Dior gown – plus Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville, Olivia Williams, Jonny Lee Miller, and of course, Dominic West. West was there with his wife and children. A couple of years ago, Dominic very publicly cheated on his lovely wife with his costar Lily James. While his wife, Caitlyn FitzGerald, was not happy about it, she didn’t leave him or anything, and clearly they’re still playing happy family for the cameras. Peter Morgan cast West as Prince Charles shortly after West’s cheating scandal too. It was a little too “on the nose.” Also: I could eat Jonny Lee Miller with a spoon. I love him.

Anyway, there are tons of panicked, last-minute articles this week around The Crown’s premiere. I enjoyed this one from the Daily Mail, all about how Generation Z is going to believe everything they see on The Crown.

The Crown will ‘heavily influence’ young people’s view of King Charles in a negative light but Princess Diana will ’emerge as a cultural icon’, a royal expert has predicted. Professor Pauline Maclaren of the Centre for the Study of the Modern Monarchy at Royal Holloway, University of London says younger audiences who were born after the 1990s are likely to interpret the upcoming series as a ‘quasi-documentary’ on the Royal Family.

A recent YouGov poll found that just 30 percent of 18-24 year-olds believed that the monarchy is a good thing for Britain – as opposed to 73 per cent of people over the age of 65 who argued that it was.

Speaking to the BBC, the expert said the new series will only damage Generation Z’s view of the monarchy further as it is already well known that they are ‘less popular’ among younger people.

Professor Maclaren said: ‘They are likely to understand Diana as the victim of Charles’s treatment of her.’

The new series will feature a recreation of Princess Diana’s revenge dress – which she wore the same night that Prince Charles confessed to cheating on her in a 1992 television documentary. Commenting on these scenes, the royal expert said it is likely that Princess Diana will emerge as a ‘cultural icon’ among young viewers who will identify with her personal struggles.

[From The Daily Mail]

I too could be a professor of royal history with this kind of groundbreaking insight. Who would have thought that showing a historical dramatization of not-so-distant royal history would cause Gen Z to have an emotional connection to a sympathetic Princess Diana? It’s almost as if Diana was the tragic heroine of the Windsor story for two decades. It’s almost as if simply reciting historical facts about Diana’s life is enough to turn most people republican. Incidentally, this sh-t isn’t even generational. Xennials and Generation X saw how Diana was treated in real time and we were appalled.

Netflix released great new photos from Season 5 of ‘The Crown’!

Netflix released new photos from Season 5 of The Crown! We’ve got some good looks at Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Imelda Staunton as QEII, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Jonny Lee Miller as John Major and Olivia Williams as Camilla. Oh, and Dominic West as Charles. There are some people who are possibly miscast, namely Imelda and Dominic, but I can safely say that Debicki is basically the only actress of her generation who can pull off Diana-in-the-90s. Maybe Joely Richardson could have played Diana at some point, years ago, but I really think Debicki is going to nail this.

I’m also in love with Jonny Lee Miller as John Major. I love JLM anyway – a very underrated actor and an underrated hottie. I’m shocked at how good he looks in John Major drag. It’s a rare thing for The Crown’s hair-and-makeup people to get a wig that looks that good. Olivia Williams is really bringing out her horsey best as Camilla too, and I love that they released a photo where it looks like both Camilla and Charles are neighing.

The Daily Mail’s Jan Moir was latest columnist tasked with writing a screed against the “gross intrusion” of The Crown, an intrusion specifically for Prince William and Prince Harry. Of course Moir takes the obvious turn of “Harry spoke about how emotionally damaging it was to walk behind his mother’s coffin” into “how dare Harry not single-handedly shut down The Crown to save his mother’s reputation!” I don’t know how to break it to you guys, but absolutely none of these people – not Moir, not Dan Wootton, not Richard Kay, none of them – actually care about whether another dramatization of the royal family will be hurtful or harmful to Harry. They’re using Harry’s Netflix contract as a feint because King Charles is incandescent with rage about The Crown. It’s as simple as that. Again, if Charles doesn’t want people to be reminded of all of the sh-t he did and said against Diana, he probably shouldn’t have done it in the first place.

The Crown season 5 premieres on November 9th. YAY!

Angelina Jolie & Jonny Lee Miller went to dinner last night in Beverly Hills

'PEACE ONE DAY' SCREENING NY

Back in June, Angelina Jolie was in New York with her kids. I think the trip was for business and pleasure – she had meetings, but she also went to art galleries and she was seen out in the city, looking relaxed and unbothered. Paparazzi also got photos of Jolie repeatedly visiting Jonny Lee Miller’s apartment. While JLM is British, he’s been New York-based for years, and he and his ex-wife Michele Hicks are raising their son in the city. JLM and Jolie have always maintained a nice relationship following their ‘90s marriage and divorce, and I was super-excited at the idea that they might be happening again.

Then months passed after their NYC reunion. Angelina was seen out with The Weeknd, and Jonny went to Europe to film The Crown, where he’s playing John Major in Season 5. But maybe JLM has wrapped on The Crown, because he was magically in LA this week, and he and Angelina were seen out last night:

Angelina Jolie has once again been spotted with her ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller. The former couple were pictured enjoying a dinner date together on Monday night in Beverly Hills, California.

The Maleficent star – who is still battling through her bitter divorce saga with ex Brad Pitt – was dressed in a chic black coat and heels as she exited in Miller’s car before the pair drove off together.

[From The Daily Mail]

Again, I’m pretty sure JLM is New York-based at this point. I’m sure he has friends and work connections in LA, but it feels like he wouldn’t be in LA without a specific objective. Is that objective “win back Angelina”?? Please, this would be BETTER than the Bennifer revival to me. I’ve been waiting my entire adult life for JLM and Angelina to get back together. God, they’re such a hot couple. Who will be her date to The Eternals premiere?!?

Angelina Jolie & Jonny Lee Miller did have a ‘date night’ in NYC, in his apartment?

'PEACE ONE DAY' SCREENING NY

Angelina Jolie and her kids spent about one full week in New York, in what was described as Angelina’s “belated birthday trip.” They went to museums and did some sight-seeing (fully masked) and Angelina got photographed a lot. Which is how a paparazzo got some photos of Angelina entering and leaving Jonny Lee Miller’s Brooklyn apartment building. We later heard sources claim that Angelina brought Knox over to hang out with JLM’s son Buster, and then there were photos of Angelina bringing Pax over to JLM’s apartment. It was all strangely kid-friendly, which sucks because I had fantasies of Angelina and Jonny enjoying some adults-only time together. But what if this was all the start of something a lot deeper?

Angelina Jolie is “reconnecting” with her ex-husband and “first love” Jonny Lee Miller – who spent time with two of her sons on her recent trip to New York, The Sun can exclusively reveal. The 46-year-old actress, who has been in a years-long court battle with ex Brad Pitt, was pictured visiting Miller at his apartment in the Big Apple last week, clutching an expensive bottle of wine. Following the shocking reunion, new photographs show the Hollywood star returning for a SECOND hangout with her ex, along with son Pax, 17.

The Sun can also reveal Jonny has spent time with Angelina’s son, 12-year-old Knox, during the trip and sources say he has always held a “special place” in Angelina’s heart.

An insider spilled: “On her first evening with Jonny, Angelina only took Knox along, and they got on like a house on fire. Knox is a sweet kid and I imagine she decided he was the easiest one to begin introductions with. She went back the next afternoon with Pax, who was curious to meet this guy she’s always spoken so fondly about. They only hung out for a short while at Jonny’s apartment, but they seemed to get along well.

“Angie is very happy because Pax keeps making noise about moving to New York someday soon, maybe even for school. She’s glad he’ll have someone she trusts around for him to go to for advice or just to see a friendly face.”

The insider says on her “date night” with Jonny, 48, they enjoyed dinner in his “small but stylish two-bedroom apartment,” which boasts sweeping views over the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan.

“Angelia wanted to give her kids an educational trip to the big city, and she wanted to spend some time reconnecting with Jonny, too” they said.

[From The Sun]

So did they have some fun adults-only time or not? That’s the question. The first paparazzi photos definitely suggested that Angelina arrived and exited Jonny’s apartment building alone after a three-hour visit. I want to believe! I want to believe that Angelina and Jonny reconnected physically and then he was interested in meeting her kids, maybe.

The thing about Pax maybe going to school in New York is interesting too! Apparently, Pax just graduated from high school on June 5th, although he didn’t attend his graduation. The Sun had a story about how Pax didn’t want to go because he didn’t want a “circus” atmosphere, because he’s so shy. I wonder if Pax is still into cooking and baking? I wonder if his plan is to go to culinary school? Hm. And no, I don’t think she brought Pax over to JLM’s place because she wants Pax to know someone in New York. Come on, these kids have friends everywhere, all over the world.

Wow, Angelina Jolie visited Jonny Lee Miller’s apartment a few times

5110PCN_Jolie09

Do you guys really think that Angelina Jolie saw the Bennifer Revival and she was like “hey, that’s not a bad idea?” I keep trying to figure it out – Angelina and Jonny Lee Miller have clearly been friends this whole time. I would imagine that they phased out their friends-with-benefits (exes-with-benefits) status back in 2005, when Angelina started getting hot & heavy with Brad Pitt. Jonny met Michele Hicks soon after and there was perhaps a decade-long lull where they sent the occasional card or had a phone-call check-in and that’s it. So when did they decide to give their kids playdates? And now that JLM and Angelina are both single, are they seriously having playdates of their own? Well, the Daily Mail claims that Angelina was seen back over at JLM’s apartment on Tuesday:

Angelina Jolie has been spending quite a bit of time at the home of her ex-husband Johnny Lee Miller, 48. The 46-year-old Oscar winner was pictured heading into Miller’s Brooklyn apartment building for the second time this week and had her 17-year-old son Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt in tow, on Tuesday. Over the weekend, Angelina, who just celebrated a birthday, got together with Johnny for an intimate reunion over dinner and drinks.

Jolie looked every bit the movie star as she arrived to Miller’s apartment building in a long lantern sleeved black silk maxi dress. By her side was son Pax who kept it casual and trendy in a pale pink T-shirt under a pink flannel top with charcoal jeans and trainers. Pax also sported a baseball hat and a face mask. The mother-son-duo were escorted by their security guard and reportedly spent about an hour inside the Dumbo-neighborhood building where Johnny Lee Miller lives.

[From The Daily Mail]

I’m including a link to the photos below. I saw some comments online that the DM just got their hands on these photos and that the Mail is lying about the pics being from Tuesday, June 15th. Like, they’re actually from last Thursday or Friday? Could be, because I kind of think Angelina and the kids have already flown out of New York. Hm. But… it’s interesting that there was a second visit to JLM’s apartment, with Pax in tow. Whatever was happening between Angelina and JLM, it wasn’t purely a booty call. Even though that would have been totally fine and extremely sexy.

Angelina Jolie’s son Knox is friends with Jonny Lee Miller’s son, so it was a playdate?

Angelina Jolie and her brood arrive at JFK airport in NYC

For my money, the story of the weekend was Angelina Jolie going over to her ex-husband’s apartment with a bottle of wine. I know people were like “wow, gossip in 2021 is decidedly vintage,” but Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina were in each other’s lives off-and-on for so many years that their story doesn’t feel like it’s part of just one era. Like, JLM and Angelina were a ‘90s story, an ‘00s story and now a ‘20s story. Admittedly, I don’t think they spent tons of time together in the ‘10s, but they were clearly checking in with each other and it’s not some Bennifer-style sh-t. “Sources” close to Angelina told People Magazine that the Jolie-Pitt kids have hung out with JLM’s son as well. Uh-huh.

Angelia Jolie and her brood recently enjoyed all that New York City has to offer. Earlier this week, the 46-year-old actress took part in a trip to the Big Apple with her six children – Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and 12-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox – whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt.

“The kids are growing up and are so close,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They were out to museums and dinner with each other through the trip and had a nice time.”

During the getaway, Jolie was also spotted visiting the apartment building of her ex-husband, Jonny Lee Miller. The exes have remained good friends over the years. The source adds that Miller’s son and Knox are friends and that they were also there the night Jolie was spotted leaving Miller’s place.

The NYC outing between Jolie and her kids came about after she rang in her 46th birthday with them during a celebratory dinner at the Los Angeles restaurant TAO earlier this month.

“They had a great day celebrating at home, and the kids surprised her with a special dinner out,” a source previously told PEOPLE.

[From People]

JLM’s son Buster is only six months younger than Knox and Vivienne, so I don’t know. Maybe Knox and Buster are friends and maybe Knox and Buster were having a playdate and Angelina just brought a bottle of wine for herself and Jonny? The thing is, Angelina was photographed all over the place in New York. Like, the NY Post was tracking her movements the entire time she was there. She didn’t turn up to JLM’s place with Knox. She was alone, with a bottle of wine. Was Knox already there? Hmmm. Why can’t we just believe that Angelina got some Vitamin D from her ex-husband, who is still very much a hot piece?
