Christopher Plummer, ‘Sound of Music’ actor dead at 91

Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer has passed away. He was 91. The legendary actor’s death was confirmed by family members, according to Deadline. “Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words,” Lou Pitt, his longtime friend and manager of 46 years said in a statement. “He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.” Plummer is perhaps best known for his performance with Julie Andrews in 1965’s “The Sound of Music.” In a 2009 interview, he recalled his friendship with Andrews after working with her on the iconic movie. “I’m very fond of Julie,” he told NPR. “That’s the nicest thing that came out of that film for me. We have a true and great friendship. She’s an extraordinary woman, professional. I’m grateful to the film in many ways because it was such a success. It is not my favorite film, of course, because I do think it borders on mockishness.” More recently, he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing a 75-year-old widower who comes out as gay in 2012’s “Beginners.” The post Christopher Plummer, ‘Sound of Music’ actor dead at 91 appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Dodgers legend Tommy Lasorda dies at 93

Tommy Lasorda, who for more than two decades managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and for twice that long lent his simmering, feisty, in-your-face temperament to the iconic franchise, died Thursday night. He was 93. The team announced that he “suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home.” His death came less than three months after the Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays for their first World Series championship in 32 years. Lasorda attended the deciding Game 6 in Arlington, Texas. He had been hospitalized and placed in intensive care in November, and returned home Tuesday. In a loud rasp and with a sparkle in his eyes, Lasorda regularly declared that his blood ran blue for the Dodgers and challenged anyone to disprove it. After a brief major-league career as a left-handed pitcher, then as a minor-league manager, scout and big-league third-base coach, Lasorda replaced the legendary Walter Alston as Dodgers manager in 1976. Over the next 21 years, he feted celebrities, appeared on television shows, bickered with umpires and won baseball games. When a heart attack ended his managing career midway through the 1996 season, Lasorda had won 1,599 games for the Dodgers, along with four National League pennants and two World Series titles. He was twice the NL’s manager of the year, and in 1997 was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Dodgers retired his No. 2. Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister, ‘Friday’ Actor and Wrestler, Dies at 62

Lister seen in “Friday” This is sad sad news.  Tiny Lister is known to most of us for his amazing work in “Friday” and “The Fifth Element”. His face and unique eye condition made him instantly recognizable.  Now he’s passed at 62. His manager Cindy Cowan confirmed that he was found unresponsive in his apartment in Marina del Rey, Calif. after displaying symptoms of COVID-19 in recent days. He had been working on a film and had to cancel filming after falling ill. The 6’5? Lister was born blind with a detached and deformed retina in his right eye, which became something of a trademark for him; he was frequently cast as a villain, like in “Friday” and opposite Hulk Hogan in 1989’s “No Holds Barred.” (Hogan accidentally broke Lister’s nose in one of their scenes.) “He has such a good, positive spirit,” “48 Hours” and “Warriors” director Walter Hill, who gave Lister his big break in 1986’s “Blue City,” told Grantland in 2014. “This discovery that this big, strong fella is actually sweet and friendly just makes you like him and brings about a very positive feeling.” Compton native Lister ducked gang and drug activity growing up, preferring track and field, where he eventually parlayed his affinity for the shot-put into becoming the 1982 Division II national champion in the event while at Cal State-Los Angeles. R.E.M. Drummer, Bill Rieflin, dead at 59

Former R.E.M., Ministry, and King Crimson drummer Bill Rieflin has died of cancer at the age of 59. The musician’s death was confirmed by King Crimson founder Robert Fripp, who paid tribute on his official social media pages. “A call from Tracy Rieflin in Seattle. Bill Rieflin flew from this world c. 18.50 Pacific, 18.50 UK,” he wrote. “Tracy told Toyah [Wilcox, Fripp’s wife] and me that the day was grey, and as Bill flew away the clouds opened, and the skies were blue for about fifteen minutes. Fly well, Brother Bill! My life is immeasurably richer for knowing you. Pal Susan Silver has just sent us this pic from our visit last November.” Despite working extensively in the industrial metal genre with other bands including KMFDM and Pigface, he became a member of R.E.M. in the early 2000s after the retirement of original drummer Bill Berry. He played on the albums ‘Around The Sun’, ‘Accelerate’, and ‘Collapse Into Now’. Today we lost a wonderful artist, tremendous human being and an integral part of Ministry’s developments and success… Safe travels my brother on the way to your next universal gig. Bobbi Kristina’s fiancé Nick Gordon overdosed on heroin

The toxicology report is back in the death of Nick Gordon. One of the many tragic deaths that just seem to be part of being associated with the Brown framily. According to the toxicology and autopsy report obtained by TMZ, Narcan, a drug used to treat individuals who have overdosed on opioids, was also present in his system. Gordon was already in cardiac arrest on New Year’s Day when a 911 call — that said Gordon had “black stuff coming out of his mouth” and was not breathing — was placed. Police arrived at the Maitland, Fla., Sheraton where Gordon was staying around 5:15 a.m. and brought him to Altamonte Springs Hospital, where he died seven hours later. TMZ notes that “black discharge is sometimes related to a foam cone that comes out of the mouth and nostrils after an opioid OD,” and reports at the time noted that Gordon was a prolific drug user. Gordon and Brown’s friend, Max Lomas, who lived with the two intermittently and found her body unconscious in the bathtub of her Georgia home in January 2015, died of a fentanyl overdose in August 2018. Gordon was found legally liable in the death of Brown, 22. Morphine, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs were found in her system at the time. Brown, the daughter of singers Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston — who herself drowned in a bathtub in February 2012 — died after six months in hospice care. Police investigated Gordon in conjunction with her death, but he was never charged, though Brown’s family won a $36 million wrongful death civil suit against Gordon for her death. Hains moved to the US to pursue modeling and acting, and appeared in shows such as “The OA,” “The Deleted,” and “American Horror Story: Hotel” alongside Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.
