13-year-old Broadway star died of asthma attack

Just the most heartbreaking news about an actress with a tremendous future in the arts. Laurel Griggs, a 13-year-old actress known for numerous Broadway roles, died unexpectedly last Tuesday. Griggs’s grandfather, David Rivlin, confirmed the cause of death on his Facebook page writing, “My beautiful and talented granddaughter, Laurel Griggs, has passed away suddenly from a massive asthma attack.” It was reported by Page Six that Griggs died at her family’s home in New York City, and that she took medication for the condition. Word is she had an attack at home and her father immediately called for help. “My wife noticed that she was having trouble breathing, and she turned to me, and she said, ‘Andy, get her to the hospital right away,’ ” her father said. Cops tried to save the teen by performing CPR in a police vehicle as they rushed her to Mount Sinai Hospital, but she died four hours later, authorities said. I can’t imagine the agony of watching your child gasp for air. People hate when someone offers thoughts and prayers, but it simply means you will be thinking of them. You see them and their pain and acknowledge it.  Believe it or not, that is very helpful to people greaving. I can’t stop thinking about this family and their pain. Andy and Elizabeth Griggs remember their daughter, Laurel, at a gathering on Sunday. The post 13-year-old Broadway star died of asthma attack appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Diahann Carroll dies at age 84

I used to want to be Diahann Carroll.  She’s much older than me, but she was so dignified and refined. Not to mention beautiful.  I would have this recurring dream that she was my neighbor and on Sundays we’d get together and play Gin. Carroll’s daughter, Susan Kay, confirmed her mother died on Friday in Los Angeles of cancer. During her long career, Carroll earned a Tony Award for the musical ‘No Strings’ and an Academy Award nomination for ‘Claudine.’ But she was perhaps best known for her pioneering work on ‘Julia.’ Carroll played Julia Baker, a nurse whose husband had been killed in Vietnam, in the groundbreaking situation comedy that aired from 1968 to 1971. Although she was not the first black woman to star in her own TV show (Ethel Waters played a maid in the 1950s series ‘Beulah’), she was the first to star as someone other than a servant. In the 1980s, she appeared in the long-running prime-time soap opera ‘Dynasty’ for three years. More recently, she had a number of guest shots and small roles in TV series, including playing the mother of Isaiah Washington’s character, Dr. Preston Burke, on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ The post Diahann Carroll dies at age 84 appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Saoirse Kennedy found dead of overdose at Kennedy Compound

The Kennedy family is no stranger to tragedy, as we all know.   Everything from Plane crashes to assassinations, the Kennedy death curse is legendary.  Now it’s claimed another. Saoirse Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, was found dead Thursday afternoon of an apparent overdose.  The death comes just two weeks after the 50th anniversary of the Chappaquiddick “incident” in which Teddy drunkenly crashed his car into a lake and left the scene, leaving behind Mary Jo Kopechne, his date and passenger, who drowned. She was found at the Kennedy compound in Cape Cod. ‘Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse,’ the Kennedy family said in a statement. ‘Her life was filled with hope, promise and love.’ The statement quoted Saoirse’s grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, as saying: ‘The world is a little less beautiful today.’ Paramedics responding to a call of a suspected overdose just after 2.30pm Thursday arrived at the scene and found the patient in cardiac arrest. The woman was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to local media. Barnstable police are now investigating. ‘Peaky Blinders’ actor dead at 47

“Peaky Blinders” and “Batman Begins” actor Karl Shiels has died. He was 47. “Karl was a uniquely talented individual, simultaneously intense, lighthearted, funny, sharp-witted, outspoken and intensely powerful as an actor, director and artistic director of the Theatre Upstairs – where he was such a support and mentor for young writers, actors and directors – and of his own company Semper Fi before that,” she said. “Karl was a remarkable force in Irish theatre and hugely loved and respected by all who worked with him.” “… Karl was also our friend, the loving father to his two girls, a man loved by so many who knew him and worked with him and he will be deeply mourned by all who did,” the statement continued. “Our hearts are broken but today our thoughts are with his partner Laura and his family, his children and their mother Dearbhla and his many close friends among whom we count ourselves lucky to have been for so many years. And for the rest of us, as Karl himself would so often say……’Onwards…’” The Irish actor’s cause of death wasn’t immediately clear, though a report claimed he passed away in his sleep.
