Iman on David Bowie: ‘He’s not my late husband. He’s my husband’

People Magazine cover featuring Iman and David Bowie

2016 was a rough year. We lost many of my favorite celebrities like Prince, Carrie Fisher, Alan Rickman and Gene Wilder. But one of my biggest heartbreaks was the loss of David Bowie. David and Prince fueled my preadolescent fantasies. When David married Iman in 1992, he gained my eternal respect. It has been five years since David passed. Iman is launching her first fragrance exclusively for HSN called Love Memoir in honor of her husband. The fragrance is said to be a mix of David’s favorite fragrance, Grey Vertiver by Tom Ford, and bergamot for Tuscany where there were married. In cover interview with People, Iman talked about her beautiful romance of 26 years. Iman said she met David on a blind date (I am looking at you Meghan) and he told her later that it was love at first sight. Here are a few highlights and a clip is below:

“David said it was love at first sight,” Iman, 66, tells PEOPLE. “It took me a few months but I got there.”

After their first date, she recalls how she flew to Paris to walk the runway for her friend, Thierry Mugler. When she arrived at her hotel room, it was filled with flowers. Gardenias. And when she returned to L.A., he was there to meet her at the airport. “And that’s how it started,” she says. “He properly wooed me.”

Yes, she was drawn to the musician for his kindness. “Early on, we were walking down the street and my shoelace came undone and he got on his knees to tie it for me and I thought he’s the one.”

But there was also their off the charts chemistry. “David was beyond handsome,” she says. “He oozed charisma.”

The two complemented each other in unexpected ways. “If David was not in my life, I don’t know if I would have had the courage to start Iman Cosmetics [in 1994]” she says. “I asked him ‘What if it fails?’ and he said, ‘If you don’t try, you’ll never know if it succeeds.’ He was very proud that it was one of the first lines to be very inclusive. Very chuffed, as he would say. Pleasantly happy.”

Now that he’s gone, says Iman, “There are days that are harder than others but the memories are not all sad of why the person isn’t here. The memories are now of how great it was.”

“Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had 26 years. So I have that to sustain me.”

And she has no thoughts of ever marrying again. When her daughter, Alexandria “Lexi” Jones, now 21, asked her about it, Iman recalls, “I said ‘No, I will not.’ I still feel married. Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband and I said ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.’”

“I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets,” she says. “So in that way he is ever present.”

[From People]

My goddess this story just makes me tear up a bit. I used to love seeing photos of David and Iman together. David always looked like he felt like the luckiest man on the planet when he was standing by Iman. Iman just glowed like she was planet orbiting his very bright star. I understand why Iman says she probably won’t remarry. Iman was very fulfilled in her relationship and marriage with Bowie. I love the story about how Iman knew she would marry him because he got on his knees to tie her shoe laces. To be fair, I would have fallen in love with Bowie at that moment too. I also love how David encouraged Iman to start Iman Cosmetics. He just seemed like a very loving and supportive husband and I am so happy Iman was able to experience that sort of love.

I am looking forward to this new fragrance that Iman has created. I personally love everything Tom Ford and the notes of Love Memoir sound amazing. I also love the story behind the scent. I hope over time Iman will not get sad whenever she thinks about David. To be fair, I don’t think that’s something spouses ever get over.

Iman heads new campaign for vaccine equity, calls on global leaders

241791576_369732711366867_5239575903483896825_n

Iman recently stunned at the Met Gala. It has been a while since we have seen Iman in the public eye but she never disappoints. Iman, who was a Somalian refugee at the age of 16, is the driving force behind a new global initiative for vaccine equity as the Global Advocate for CARE. The initiative sees Iman and 70 “influential artists and entertainers” calling on global leaders to ensure that 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated by the end of 2022. The list of entertainers include Tony Goldwyn (yes, that Mr. President), Anne Hathaway, Richard Gere, Ciara, Eva Longoria and many more. Below are a few more details from People:

In the letter, the famous activists emphasized the fact that “only 2% of people in low-income countries have received a single dose, leaving the world’s most vulnerable to face COVID with no protection” and called on world leaders to help developing countries get the resources necessary to vaccinate their population.

Speaking about her role at CARE, Iman tells PEOPLE exclusively, “The Global Advocate role was specifically created for me back in 2019, and I’ve been honored ever since to continue to amplify and strengthen CARE’s ongoing work, and ultimately, use my platform to fight for meaningful — and lasting — change.”

“As a Somali refugee, I’ve felt drawn to helping advocate for human rights and the safety and security of people around the world. There’s this very real and natural connection to the work CARE is doing and my existing passions.”

She continues, “I became a refugee at age 16 and I am committed to bettering future generations of women especially those in developing nations. Without [non-governmental organizations] like CARE, my life trajectory would likely be very different and my role as a Global Advocate is how I pay it forward and express my sincere gratitude for the critical work the organization is doing around the globe.”

Iman explains that coronavirus “disproportionately affects the most vulnerable” population, like “refugees and forcibly replaced” people who have already endured natural disasters and wars. “Now, they’re facing this devastating pandemic,” she says.

“We must think of future generations and ensure a global response aimed at recovery. Here, in the United States, we are fortunate to have the necessary resources and infrastructure readily available.” the activist says. “I’m a firm believer in the dignity of all people and this pandemic has shown us that we’re stronger, better, and healthier when we come together and share resources.”

[From People]

The numbers that Iman provides for underdeveloped nations are appalling. Less than 2% of the poorest countries are vaccinated and we wonder why COVID is still spreading. These wealthier nations should be breaking their necks to make sure citizens around the world have access to the vaccine. Especially if they are squawking about reopening their borders for traveling purposes and cash flow. I love how Iman is using her own experience as a refugee to help others. And I also love the fact that CARE (an organization I am just now learning about) created the position of Global Advocate specifically for Iman. I hope that initiatives like CARE and Global Citizen Live will help the most vulnerable global citizens get access to vaccinations. To keep everyone safe from this virus, 70% of the world’s population needs to be vaccinated. I will definitely be following this story to see the impact and outcome. It is great that all of these high profile names signed on to this initiative but I would like to see more celebrities from other countries as well. We are all in this together and I am happy to see people like Iman leading the charge.

Iman in Harris Reed at the Met Gala: stole the show?

Last night was our return to the Met Gala, 16 months after it was last canceled due to the pandemic. The theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” which seemed quite easy compared to past themes. I saw some tweets that the fashion was disappointing, but I was just thrilled to see celebrities dressed up again. It felt somewhat safe, considering that proof of vaccination and masks were required, at least inside the venue. The photographers were masked, some of the interviewers were masked, and there was a nice vibe to it. Much of that was due to Keke Palmer’s phenomenal interviewing skills. She hosted Vogue’s red carpet stream along with Ilana Glazer, which I’ll cover in another post. I wanted to start with Iman, who absolutely slayed in this fabulous giant feather tiered Harris Reed gown and hat.

This look is striking from almost all angles, with an open structured skirt featuring tiers of golden embossed feathers, a gold brocade bustier and matching boot cut slacks. Reed told Keke during their interview that he approached Iman to model for him because she’s iconic. She is, and this look will go down in Met history. Keke was incredible with Iman, as she was throughout the night. She thanked her for being a trailblazer with her makeup line.

Laura Harrier was also in gold, in Altuzarra. Look at how that amazing dress drapes on her. I love the zig zag way the bust connects. Pure 70s glam and another one of my favorite looks.

Leah Messer Whines To Friend As Daughter Falls Off Swing

UGH LEAH.

On the one hand, Leah Messer takes a beating from Teen Mom 2 viewers and it makes you feel a little bad for her.

On the other, she does sh** like this that makes you forget those feels from just a moment ago.

On this week’s episode, Messer, 25, took her girls to the playground.  Fine.  A great day out.

Messer was more focused on her love life and her lunch to keep an eye on her kids.

“I don’t want to be in a relationship, I need time,” Messer told her friend.

“I’m focusing on my kids… I’m learning how to embrace struggles.”

As those words left her mouth, daughter Ali fell out of a swing, landing on her back and head (the six-year-old sufferse from muscular dystrophy).

Messer did rush over to the child as soon as the accident happened, but fans were ticked off because they didn’t think she was paying close attention.

“I know kids fall, but Leah definitely wasn’t watching them at the park,” one viewer wrote on social media.

“Ali fell so hard,” another pointed out.

“She [Leah] didn’t even check her head. She could of gotten a concussion. All she did was wipe off her back.”

To make matters even worse, 3-year-old Adalynn (Messer’s daughter with ex-husband Jeremy Calvert) was climbing to great heights on the jungle gym.

“Addi with NO SUPERVISION,” yet another viewer wrote, blasting Messer’s negligence.

The worst part?  Messer spent the episode claiming that she deserved 50/50 custody of her children.

“Leah isn’t capable of having those kids,” one more user tweeted.

“You do not have your s**t together.”
