Kate Moss skipped King Charles’s garden party last week & the palace is furious

Here are some photos of Kate Moss on May 2, where she attended the New York fundraising event for The King’s Trust, formerly The Prince’s Trust. Kate is actually somewhat friendly with the Windsors and she turns up to royal events sometimes, especially fundraisers. I remember, years ago, Moss came out for some royal-adjacent fundraiser which was supposed to be attended by Prince William and then-Duchess Kate. Keen ended up skipping and Moss greeted William with “where’s your wife?” Moss was a #WhereIsKate Truther before any of us! Well, last Wednesday, Buckingham Palace hosted its second garden party of the season. The focus for the party was supposed to be “the creative arts,” so it was an excuse for King Charles and Queen Camilla to mingle with celebrities. Kate Moss was supposed to go to the party, but she skipped and no one knows why. It sounds like the palace is pissed about it!

She is an ever-present fixture at A-list parties around the world. But Kate Moss failed to turn up to a star-studded Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla last week – leaving organisers flummoxed and put-out. The 50-year-old supermodel had been among more than 4,000 guests from the worlds of showbusiness and fashion invited to celebrate Britain’s creative arts industry.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that officials were particularly exasperated because Ms Moss had asked for her ticket back after initially declining the invitation – only then not to show up at all. The British Fashion Council had been forced to intervene on her behalf just a few days before the event to ensure her a spot.

A source said: ‘After all the wrangling, Kate was a no-show on the day. She made her decision so late that briefing notes were sent out ahead of the event which listed her as a guest. Even now there are articles online which say she was attending, even though she was nowhere to be seen.’

Designer Stella McCartney – Kate’s best friend and fellow fashion wild child – was also invited but did not attend, citing ‘work commitments’.

Last night, a friend of Kate, who is a keen smoker, quipped that the model’s absence may have had something to do with the fact that cigarettes were not allowed at the garden party. Another source said: ‘Everyone behind the scenes was desperate to see Kate and were so disappointed she didn’t come. Staff were wandering around looking for her.’

The source said it had been a surprise that Ms Moss had not turned up. ‘It’s a money-can’t-buy event so there are very few people in the world who would not take up their place on the Buckingham Palace lawn to see the King and Queen, and even fewer who would be so impolite about it,’ they added.

The model’s no-show comes after she was seen clambering on to the stage at a Skip Marley concert in Turkey last weekend and had to be ushered away by guards. Later, she was seen holding hands with Skip, the 27-year-old grandson of the late reggae superstar Bob Marley.

[From The Daily Mail]

Perhaps Moss was too busy partying or recovering from partying to make it to the palace on time. Or perhaps, given the behind-the-scenes wrangling, Moss’s snub was rather pointed. Like, it sounds as if there was some chaos about whether or not she would even get an invitation, and she was just like, “who needs this drama?” Also: “It’s a money-can’t-buy event so there are very few people in the world who would not take up their place on the Buckingham Palace lawn to see the King and Queen…” Charles was literally making small-talk with C-list reality stars, let’s not pretend this was the classiest, most A-list event ever. It sounds like the palace had high hopes that A-listers like Kate Moss and Stella McCartney would turn up and they’re mad that their garden party looked so unremarkable.

Anne Hathaway wore vintage Valentino to the British Fashion Awards: gorgeous?

Here are some photos from last night’s British Fashion Awards, an annual event celebrating fashion and British fashion in particular, although most attendees aren’t wearing British designers. Take Anne Hathaway, who turned up at the event in a vintage Valentino gown. This is literally from the Valentino archives, a museum piece which Anne was allowed to borrow. It’s very pretty, but if you got a chance to wear an archived Valentino, wouldn’t you go for one of the bigger, brighter looks?

Simone Ashley also wore Valentino, but not a vintage piece. This is… very short. I mean, she has legs for days, but lord, how did she sit down?

Rita Ora wore a specially made Primark dress with a chrome spike down the back. From the front, it looks like a basic black dress, but the party’s in the back. Do you think Taika Waititi is tired of this?

Kate Moss looked really good here – I like that she kept it simple.

Letitia Wright wore Prada – I’m so glad that “dress-over-pants” is coming back into style.

Ashley Park wore a big fish! LOL.

Kate Moss still smokes but she has a vegetable garden & a wellness brand

Kate Moss turns 50 years old in January. I can’t believe it! It never felt like Moss had a bad era or a transition away from a high-paced modeling career. If she still wanted to walk every major runway, all of those designers would gladly hire her. She still fronts multiple ad campaigns and she still does editorial work. But like many Gen-Xers, Kate Moss has gotten into side gigs. She has her own modeling agency, she has an official role as a creative director for Diet Coke, and now she has her own wellness brand, Cosmoss. She recently chatted about all of that with the Times of London. Some highlights:

She’s in bed by 11pm: Today, you can find her tucked up in bed by 11pm at home in the Cotswolds, watching 1990s sitcoms. “Frasier is my bedtime watch,” she said. “It just puts me to sleep.” Other nights she “moonbathes” — the ayurvedic practice of lying under the light of the moon in order to absorb lunar energy — or, when the moon is full, “charges” her crystals. “I put all my crystals on a tray and put them outside in the garden,” she said. “Just cleansing the crystal, charging the crystals.”

Her wellness brand: She’s launching her own wellness brand, Cosmoss, selling herbal tea and beauty products that aim to balance “body and soul with the natural environment and the circadian cycles”.

She still smokes: “I still smoke occasionally. I’ve heard that when you stop, you can really tell [by your skin]. But I haven’t stopped … yet.”

Affirmations: In the mornings she practises transcendental meditation for ten minutes and recites affirmations — favourites include “embrace the unknown” and “trust the universe and it will lead the way” — as well as doing ashtanga yoga or reformer Pilates. She tried waking up at 4am for a period of time, but “I was just so exhausted by the time everyone else got up”.

She has a veggie garden: She grows potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, lettuce and rocket in her vegetable patch, cooking Sunday lunch for her daughter, Lila, 20.

Her 50th birthday: She is in “denial” about getting older. Her birthday is in January. “I’m not turning 50. No. I’m not thinking about it. I do not feel 50.” When asked whether she has had any “tweakments” — which include injectables such as filler or Botox — she said: “No comment. Au naturel. Next [question].”

She’s not into the party life anymore: “I’m not really into it. I do get Fomo [fear of missing out] sometimes, like, ‘Oh I wish I’d gone to that or was hanging out with everybody.’ When I do go out I leave at midnight — that’s my cut-off. I’ve seen everyone, everyone’s talked sense. After that [time] people start repeating themselves. So then I go home.”

Skincare: When she was younger, she said, she “didn’t give a sh-t about what I used” as skincare and “never” wore suncream. Today, her brand Cosmoss sells day and night cream (£95), pro-collagen oil (£105) and face cleanser (£52). “Lots of brands think about the science and the ingredients. Cosmoss has all that — but what I wanted was something that was actually going to ground you and connect you to the universe. Because that’s what I need: connection.”

[From The Times]

I mean, I appreciate that someone like Kate Moss – who has lived a life of excess, drugs, cigarettes and rock ‘n roll – is trying to sell wellness crap too. I don’t even think it was some kind of huge scheme on her part – Kate doesn’t care if the wellness industry is booming, she’s already a wellness consumer and she wanted to make some products too. Anyway, I believe her about her quieter life these days. She’s not at every fashion event anymore, she’s rarely seen out in London during the day or night, she’s not falling out of clubs. The thing that surprised me the most is the part about her vegetable garden though. Who would have thought that “Cocaine Kate” would one day have a little veggie garden?

Anne Hathaway Irina Shayk Kate Moss Met Gala Precious Lee

Anne Hathaway in tweed & pearl Versace at the Met Gala: stunning?

One of my favorite looks of this year’s Met Gala was Anne Hathaway. Donatella Versace customized the look for Anne, and they walked the carpet together. This is a variation of the infamous Versace “safety pin” dress from the 1990s, but Donatella redid it with a Karl Lagerfeld-theme, in a pale tweed (rather than the leather of the original dress) and in addition to the safety pins, the dress was “held together” with pearl clasps. It is such an amazing interpretation of the Lagerfeld aesthetic. Anne really ate this. And yes, that’s stupid Jared Leto in a Choupette costume.

I was surprised by how many women wore slipdresses or very simple lingerie-inspired looks from the 1990s. Irina Shayk did that – I don’t have the ID on this, but it’s just… very basic. Her makeup isn’t even notable.

Kate Moss wore Fendi, as did her daughter Lila. Kate knew Karl Lagerfeld for decades, I’m kind of surprised that she didn’t do more? She’s Kate Moss, for goodness sake. She just threw on a Fendi slipdress.

Precious Lee also wore Fendi. It’s fine.

Kate Moss is the face of Kim Kardashian’s Skims’ summer campaign: whoa??

One of the most brilliant things about Kate Moss’s career is that she’s maintained an elusive coolness for decades, and that coolness has helped her maintain a up-market appeal. Kate Moss doesn’t have to flog down-market brands. She’s purely the face of luxury brands, from fashion to jewelry to makeup to whatever else. Kate Moss has always turned down work when she’s not feeling a particular brand’s energy, and she honestly doesn’t put her name or reputation on just anything. Which is why it’s extremely notable that Kate Moss is now modeling for Kim Kardashian’s Skims line. The Skims’ Instagram posted these new images of Moss modeling their underwear and bras. This is the biggest thing to happen to Skims since the American Olympic committee certified Skims as an Olympic sponsorship partner and gave them a contract to supply underwear and loungewear to Olympic athletes!

Kate Moss is the star of SKIMS’ new summer campaign. After becoming friends with Kim Kardashian through mutual designer friends and falling in love with the flattering pieces from the solution-centered style brand, the iconic supermodel, 47, has been named the new face of SKIMS.

“I’ve been a fan of SKIMS since day one,” Moss said in a press release. “What Kim is doing with the brand is so fresh and modern, making underwear women actually want and that fits perfectly.”

Moss, who models a selection of styles from SKIMS’ bestselling Fits Everybody and Cotton collections in the sexy campaign images, said her entire family has become major fans of the brand. “I wear it, my daughter [Lila Grace Moss, 18] wears it — even my mum [Linda Shepherd] wears it!” she said.

Kardashian, 40, is honored to have Moss representing her brand. “I first met Kate in 2014 through [designer] Riccardo Tisci and was instantly struck by her cheeky humor, authentic and classic beauty — we’ve been friends ever since,” Kardashian said. “She is THE fashion icon, defining whole generations of culture and style and I am honored to feature her as the new face of SKIMS this Summer!”

Kardashian spent time with Moss and her teenage daughter Lila Grace earlier this month in Rome while visiting the Vatican. Kardashian and Moss took multiple photos together throughout the tour, and also snapped a group pic with their glam squad sitting on the stairs in front of the altar in St. Peter’s Basilica.

[From People]

Would Kate Moss model for Skims if she didn’t believe in the product? No. She wouldn’t. Even Kardashian-haters have to admit that this is a big deal, a major stamp of legitimacy and coolness for Kim and her now-signature business. Never would I have predicted that Kate Moss would model for Skims! And she honestly makes the stuff look hot! I really want that white bra now.

Did Jennifer Saunders & Joanna Lumley throw shade at Benedict Cumberbatch?

wenn24800666

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie comes out in the UK today, although Americans won’t get the movie until July 22. So Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley’s promotional tour, thus far, has just been in the UK, and they’ve just been talking to UK outlets for the most part. Saunders and Lumley contributed an “on-set diary” to the Telegraph which was published a few days ago, and people have been interpreting one passage, by Lumley, as “shade” directed at Benedict Cumberbatch. The film has a lot of A-list cameos, but they tried to get Bendy and he turned them down. Here’s that part of the diary:

As well as working, I actually have to work. Mandie Fletcher, our director, is trying to lock down the casting of cameo roles between takes and sometimes I have to sit with her in a nice chair, eating a delicious Brie baguette, and throwing out names like ‘Benedict Cumberbatch’.

Although Benedict Cumberbatch, it turns out, is busy for the next five and a half years. What is it with actors? We are offering tiny, tiny, tiny roles that will take up minuscule amounts of time and it’s, ‘Oh no, sorry, I’m busy doing films,’ or, ‘So sorry, I am going round the world with all my actor friends for the next two years,’ or a simple, ‘I’m dead.’

[From The Telegraph]

I’m pretty sure AbFab filmed last summer and that Benedict would have been somewhat free to film for a day or two, especially if his cameo could have been shot in London. Meaning, he just didn’t want to appear in AbFab, which sucks. He’ll do a questionable cameo in Zoolander No. 2, but not AbFab?

Saunders also told media outlets that contrary to tabloid reports, Kim Kardashian was never up for a cameo or anything: “I don’t know who put the rumor out but it was never a fact. It’s not like [Kim] was on the phone going, ‘But I want to be in it. I want to do it.’” Saunders also claimed that she had never, ever said that Kim was “too crass” to be in AbFab because “I don’t even know the word ‘crass.’ It’s not in my vocabulary.” It’s true – no one is “too crass” for the world of AbFab.

Kate Moss & her 13-year-old daughter Lila Grace cover Vogue Italia: sweet?

kate vgue italy

Perhaps the “in” thing for magazines this year is mother-daughter covers? Cindy Crawford and her 14-year-old daughter Kaia covered Vogue Paris several months back, and many people loved and praised the image. And now this – Kate Moss and her 13-year-old daughter Lila Grace cover the new issue of Vogue Italia. Thoughts? I think Lila will look more like her mom as she gets into her mid-to-late teens. Right now, she’s just an interesting blend of both of her parents (her dad is Jefferson Hack).

When Cindy and Kaia covered Vogue Paris in March, I sort of assumed that Cindy was trying to gently open some doors for her daughter, who already has representation at a modeling agency. Like, the deal between Kaia and Cindy is that Kaia can model but only if Cindy gets to be hands-on about her career. I wonder about Lila and Kate’s dynamic, whether Lila is even interested in modeling like her famous mum, or if Lila is just a normal kid, untouched by her mother’s career. Jefferson Hack did provide some clues in a recent interview, saying:

“I spend a lot of time with Lila Grace. She’s 13 and my relationship with her and her mum, Kate, is the thing I’m most proud of. That is life with a capital L. Everything else is window dressing. I have Lila at least one night in the week and every other weekend. We use FaceTime most evenings. She thinks me and her mum are deeply uncool. I don’t think her music tastes are cool – Capital radio and Justin Bieber. She keeps me real. I’m not on Snapchat. It’s wrong when parents act like their kids. I don’t buy into the ‘my mum’s my best friend’ ethos. Kate’s a great mum and they have a fantastic relationship.”
