Elmo Larry David Mental Health Wil Wheaton

Will Wheaton responds to Larry David assaulting Elmo: ‘tone deaf a-hole’

Two weeks ago, Elmo caused a stir when he inadvertently started an international conversation about mental health. Elmo tweeted, “How is everyone doing?” It was a simple question that struck a nerve as so many people, including celebrities, the Biden administration, and the rest of the Sesame Street gang, responded to share their feelings. After that, Elmo and his dad appeared on the Today Show to talk about mental health. Things took a bonkers turn when Larry David rushed the stage to assault Elmo, later explaining that he did it because the beloved children’s character was talking about mental health. Instead of apologizing, he told Seth Meyers that he “would do it again.” It was a really immature and sh–ty thing to do.

Actor Wil Wheaton also thought Larry’s behavior was disturbing. Wil made a Facebook post calling out Larry’s actions, reading him for the tone-deaf a-hole that he is. In the post, he pointed out that Elmo is supposed to be a child. He also talked about being a survivor of childhood abuse himself and how important it is to have an open conversation about mental health, especially one that comes from a safe space like Elmo.

“So I heard about Larry David assaulting Elmo on life television but didn’t watch it until now because I knew it would upset me,” Wil began. “Holy shit it’s even worse than I thought. What the f-ck is wrong with that guy? Elmo is, like, the best friend to multiple generations of children. In the Sesame Street universe, ELMO IS A CHILD, who is currently putting mental health and caring for others in the spotlight.”

“And Larry F-cking David … did … that? And thought it was going to be … funny? What? What an asshole. What a stupid, self-centered, tone deaf a–hole.”

“Full disclosure: all the time, when I was growing up, my dad would grab me by the shoulders and shake me while he screamed in my face,” Wheaton shared in his lengthy post. “He choked me more than once.”

“He was always out of control, always in a furious rage, and always terrifying,” Wil continued. “I’m a 51-year-old man, and my heart is pounding right now, recalling how I felt when I was a little boy who loved Grover the way today’s kids love Elmo. I really want to know what raced through his tiny little mind, and why there was no voice or person who spoke up to stop him from expressing violence towards a children’s puppet WHO WAS THERE TO TALK ABOUT HOW HIS LOVE AND EMPATHY FOR PEOPLE HAVING A TOUGH TIME MATTERED AND MADE A DIFFERENCE.”

“Elmo and his dad were there to talk about empathy, love, kindness, and caring for each other,” he continued. “Larry David was there to promote the final (thank god, maybe he’ll go away now) season of a television series. Like, read the room, d-ckhead. It isn’t always about you being the center of attention. A nontrivial number of people who none of us will ever know were inspired by it, and that was the last little nudge they needed to make the call or send the email to being healing,” Wil noted. “Elmo probably saved lives and relationships by opening that conversation.”

[From Buzzfeed]

Some people thought that Wil was being too sensitive while others appreciated that he talked about his trauma and emphasized with him. Shame on the people who made rude comments regarding his openness about his past and willingness to speak out. I’m fully on Team Wil here. Larry was a smug d*ckhead about assaulting a beloved children’s character on live television. And why? Because he was talking about mental health and Larry thought that was annoying. The other day, Kaiser mentioned that Elmo is a learning and an educational tool. Well, now we know that Larry is just a straight up tool.

People mocking Wil Wheaton for being open about his PTSD after Elmo got attacked is exactly why we need a huge overhaul on mental health in this country.

This is why people trauma-dumped on Elmo in the first place, because the rest of you are assholes.#TeamWesley

Larry David says he attacked Elmo because Elmo was discussing mental health

I love the Muppets. Elmo was before my time, but Kermit, Miss Piggy, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Fozzie Bear, Cookie Monster? All bangers, all the time. I’m not alone – people have strong feelings about the Muppets and Sesame Street across the board. When Elmo was introduced, kids responded in such a huge way because Elmo is a “kid” himself – he’s only supposed to be three-and-a-half in the Sesame Street world. He talks like a kid and he brings out the kid in all of us. That’s why so many people responded to Elmo last week when he checked in on Twitter, asking us how we’re really doing. It ended up being a really lovely moment about mental health, checking in with people, using your words and more. The rest of the Sesame Street gang all joined in, as did the Biden administration.

All of which made it even more appalling when Elmo appeared on the Today Show last week, and he was booked the same morning as Larry David. Out of nowhere, Larry David attacked – like, physically assaulted – Elmo, who is a CHILD in the Muppet universe. Here’s that video:

As someone pointed out, it actually appeared as if Elmo was shaking with anger when Larry David apologized. As you can see, it was not a “bit” planned out by producers. Larry David went over to Elmo while Savannah was trying to throw it to Al Roker. It was off-script. The apology was poorly handled by all involved – Savannah and Hoda should have treated it seriously, like one guest attacking another guest. And Larry David f–king sucks. You want to know how much he sucks? He said that he attacked Elmo specifically because of the mental health conversation earlier in the week:

Larry David‘s viral attack on Elmo became the focal point of his visit later in the day to “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” where the host grilled David on answers for what would make a person want to attack the beloved “Sesame Street” character on live television. Both David and Elmo were guests on the Feb 1. edition of NBC’s “Today” when David crashed the morning show set during Elmo’s interview and throttled his face.

“The clip is going around online, Larry. You can’t hide from this,” Meyers told David. “Elmo, some might say, is loved by all.”

“Yeah, yeah. I did it,” David said when asked for an explanation. He then impersonated Elmo’s high-pitched voice and continued: “Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed, and Elmo was going on about mental health and I had to listen to every word. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think I can take another second of this!’ And so I got off my chair and I approached him and I throttled him! I couldn’t take it!” David then wisecracked: “And you know what? I would do it again!”

[From Variety]

Can I be real? I never got into Curb Your Enthusiasm because of sh-t like this. People take Elmo seriously. Kids take Elmo seriously. It’s okay to take Elmo seriously and unironically enjoy Sesame Street. Earnestness and educational programming for children are not bad things. Elmo is a learning tool, an educational tool, and last week he unexpectedly started a national conversation about mental health. Larry David’s attitude is that the conversation is something worthy of mockery, or that it’s okay to assault a beloved children’s character… it’s genuinely gross.

Larry David thinks white people only pretend to like ‘Hamilton’ to be ‘hip’

FFN_KM_DumbDumberTo_Prem_110314_51575581

I’m going back and forth about whether I think these Larry David quotes are offensive. Larry David was doing an interview with the Mike Lupica Show this week, and he was asked about the smash Broadway musical Hamilton. Hamilton has been a phenomenon for more than a year, it’s pulled in tens of millions of dollars in ticket sales, and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has won a Pulitzer and a Peabody, plus the musical picked up no fewer than 16 Tony Award nominations. Basically, everyone thinks Hamilton is THE BEST. Full-stop. But no, says Larry David. Hamilton is popular because white people are just pretending to like it so they can be hip.

“Hamilton” may be making history on Broadway, but Larry David, for one, is curbing his enthusiasm. The comic actor took to the “Mike Lupica Show” podcast, which debuted Tuesday, to express his theory that a lot of the demand comes from white ticket-buyers trying to “solidify their liberal bona fides.”

“Yeah, ‘Hamilton’ — it was pretty amazing,” David told the Daily News columnist. “But I have a feeling there are a lot of white people who are saying they are completely blown away even though they didn’t really understand half of the things the people on stage were saying. They just want to solidify their liberal bona fides and how cool they are: ‘Yea, I love Hamilton. Yea I get it, I’m hip.’”

Lupica made a connection to the kind of voters who mislead political pollsters.

“I think some of them are. No but, the show is amazing,” said David. “No doubt about it, it’s an incredible show, but I do have this theory on a lot of the people that are seeing it.”

On not wanting to be a role model:

“When someone asks, ‘Are the girls on Girls good role models?’ I’m like, ‘Are the guys on Entourage good role models? Is Larry David a good role model? Is Woody Allen a good role model?’ And I resent being forced into a position of having to represent all of female sexuality.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Wasn’t Very Happy On ‘Saturday Night Live’

julia louis dreyfus

I hope we can all agree that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is really great and lovely and wonderful and all those good things, right? She was great on Seinfeld, she’s great on Veep and she was great on Saturday Night Live back in the ’80s… she just didn’t love that last one too much. Lots of women on the cast have felt similarly, but let’s just let Julia have her say, shall we?

From SiriusXM Town Hall:

“I did not adapt well,” she acknowledged. “I was pretty miserable. It was a very difficult time of my life.

“I went into that place green as green could be. I came out of a theatre background [and an] improv background that was very [much] ensemble and, ‘We’re doing this together! And we’re in it together!’ Which is great, but that’s not necessarily the culture at SNL when I was there at all.

“It was very dog eat dog. I didn’t have a bag of characters that I could start pulling from. I didn’t have a writer that wrote for me. I wasn’t a stand-up. I was just this actress hoping to get material that I could then make funnier. I didn’t know how to work the system at all. Plus, there were a lot of drugs and I didn’t realize everyone was on drugs… I was a little bit naive.”

Yeah, that sounds pretty shitty – though obviously it wasn’t all bad since that’s where she met Larry David, who was writing on the show at the time. SNL still has a bit of a lady problem (but an even bigger black person problem), but that’s nothing new.  That’s showbiz, I guess.

Ryan Gosling May Have Made A Huge Mistake

the place beyond the pines premiere

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are dating and every time I realize this I am surprised. It’s like when you remember an actor who was in a film you saw a long time ago and think, “Oh wow, that’s right, I totally forgot he was in that.”

They’re also working together. Mr. Gosling is directing his girlfriend in his film How To Catch A Monster that is not based on a Goosebumps book but really should be. And in the words of the Bluth family he might be thinking, “…I’ve made a huge mistake.”

From National Enquirer:

Ryan, 32, is directing his 39-year-old Latina squeeze Eva in his directorial debut, “How To Catch a Monster,” spending the spring filming on location in Detroit. He’s gone out of his way not to give his gorgeous girlfriend any special treatment on the set, but sources say he’s gone overboard.

“Ryan’s been harder on Eva [that’s what she said] than any of the other actors in the film,” said a friend. “He’s ordered multiple takes of her scenes. Eva is going along with it, but she can’t help asking herself, ‘Is he just doing this to show he’s in charge?’

“I think they both realize now it would have been better for Ryan to go it alone on this film, and for Eva to just visit him on the set.”

Back to the first paragraph, gotta love they feel they have to mention that Mendes is “latina” as though that’s her whole identity and she should be categorized. Or like we forgot. Anyway apparently they were going to marry in the fall but that may not happen due to all of this angst. Also, there’s this, my favorite part of this entire story, and out of any other story:

Making matters worse, Ryan’s still convinced Eva has a crush on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Larry David! As we recently reported, Ryan hit the roof after Eva accidentally sent the chrome-domed comic a gushing text – that was meant for someone else.

I’m guessing this was Larry David’s reaction:

Usher’s Former Nanny Wants That Overtime Money Now

usher

Usher may be raking it in on The Voice (please do not bring him back next season, NBC), but he’s not paying up alleged overtime wages owed to a former nanny who looked after his two kids, aged 4 and 5 at the time, from 2010 to 2011. The new Larry David now faces a lawsuit from the nanny, which is apparently bullshit (as so many of them are).

From TMZ:

Cecilia Duncan is suing the singer, claiming Usher hired her as a part-time nanny back in December 2010 and she worked her ass off caring for his two sons (aged 4 and 5) often exceeding 40 hours per week.

According to the lawsuit, Cecilia felt like she was being overworked without being paid overtime … and expressed her concerns to Usher in 2011 that she was being shafted.

Cecilia says Usher ignored her complaints for more than a year … and finally fired her ass last September without paying her overtime money.

She’s now suing for wrongful termination, failure to pay wages, and more — demanding unspecified damages. Sources close to the lawsuit tell us she wants in the six-figure range.

People crack me up. You know right well that any overtime she did in a year period – if indeed she was entitled to payment for it and she wasn’t already paid – did NOT total six figures. Girl, sit down. I’m no Usher fan and have no reason to defend him, but this whole thing just stinks of bullshit, so I doubt she’ll be getting any money.
