Olivia Wilde: ‘Girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls’

Olivia Wilde recently shared some of her beauty secrets with People magazine and I can only hope if I follow them I will look as radiant as she does. Olivia used the interview to do a little shilling for Revlon, for which she is a spokesperson, but she does offer some pretty helpful tips. She says that Jason “doesn’t love it” when she wears red lipstick to channel her inner Sophia Loren, but I’m sure he can look past that. It’s like a tiny scratch on a Bentley. Here are some highlights from the interview: On men and makeup: “All men are terrified of lipstick. But girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls. So I wear whatever I think looks best.” On her beauty inspiration: “I like to be bold on the red carpet, and the benefit of working with so many brilliant makeup artists is that I get to ask a lot of questions and say, ‘okay so when I go out next week to that birthday party I am going to try my own version of this with my own tools.’” On her day-to-day look: “I don’t leave the house without a little foundation, concealer and mascara [on]. I think that for a lot of women it’s not about disguising yourself, it’s just about giving yourself a little bump in confidence.” On the power of makeup: “The older I get, the more I get to know what works best for me. Makeup is not about changing who you are, it’s about understanding your face and highlighting your best features.” [From People] I love Olivia, but I have to disagree on a few things. I did an informal poll of my Facebook friends and random Tinder connections and not one man told me he was “terrified” of lipstick. Maybe Jason had some sort of traumatic experience with lipstick as a child. Also, the only woman I get dressed up for is myself. I have also been known to get dolled up to woo the opposite sex, so I think she may be barking up the wrong tree. She is right about using makeup to highlight your best features. She’s obviously a pro at that. Sadly, it was announced on Wednesday that Olivia’s HBO series, Vinyl, was cancelled after only one season. The show, which followed the ups and (mostly) downs of a rock ’n’ roll record label in the 1970s was produced by Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger, and I thought it was pretty good. And, of course, there’s all kinds of unresolved storylines, damn it. I hope Mick’s son, James, who played a punk singer, shows up somewhere soon. He’s a hottie. I hope Olivia’s merkin stylist can get another gig somewhere as well. Olivia took the news in stride, using Twitter to thank fans for their support. She tweeted, “Thanks for all the kind words about Vinyl, my friends. We had a BLAST, and made something special. Party on.” Thanks for all the kind words about Vinyl, my friends. We had a BLAST, and made something special. Party on. ❤️ — olivia wilde (@oliviawilde) June 23, 2016 Don’t worry about Olivia though, she’s keeping busy. She recently made her directorial debut, helming the video for the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s new song Dark Necessities. Too bad she couldn’t talk Anthony Kiedis out of rocking his “Sonny Bono 2016” look. That boy needs a makeover. Photo small: Getty Images, WENN.com, Fame Flynet

David Duchovy on The X-Files: it’s romantic when a man & woman are equals

Ok folks I know #davidduchovny and #gilliananderson have a few fans out there so I'm going to do a little competion . Best caption for this picture gets a 11 by 14 limited edition print signed by me.. #xfiles ps photographed with @leicacamerausa A photo posted by Mark Mann (@markmannphoto) on Jun 11, 2016 at 5:45am PDT David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have an long enjoyable joint interview over on Deadline. This is in the Awardsline section, so it must be part of the Emmy push for the X-Files reboot. Apparently the first round of voting closes June 27th, so please if we have any Emmy voters reading consider the new X-Files (and also Master of None and Bates Motel) on your ballots. Ever since I heard David Duchovny promoting his new book on Fresh Air I’ve had a renewed appreciation of just how smart and insightful he is. He has a masters in English literature from Yale and his undergraduate degree is from Princeton. I’ve always found Gillian Anderson a joy to listen to as well, so it’s a treat for me to have this interview to report. The problem is that they both say so many interesting things that I don’t know what to cut. Reading the interview is like having a great meal. If you’re an X-Files fan like me I would recommend that you read the interview at the source, but here are my favorite parts. The good news is that the show is such a hit and that they’ve both expressed an interest in returning, so we’ll probably get more X-Files at some point. Anderson says that no one is is talks yet, though. The second movie was a problem for them as they wanted to do three Duchovny: But after the second movie opened against The Dark Knight, and it was kind of a doomed enterprise in that way, I think we assumed it was dead. As television rearranged itself over the last 10 years, the idea of a season changed from 24 episodes, to 6, 8, 10, 12, or whatever. It became apparent that we could exist there, at least temporarily. Anderson: In my head, at least, was the fantasy of maybe doing three movies. I don’t know where that came from, but it was a shame the second was handled in the way it was. We knew we wanted to continue the conversation and try and trump that experience. They both say that a shorter series arc allowed the show to come back Duchovny:As television rearranged itself over the last 10 years, the idea of a season changed from 24 episodes, to 6, 8, 10, 12, or whatever. It became apparent that we could exist there, at least temporarily. Anderson: But the idea of doing a small pack, and realizing that our series works best when we have an opportunity to show all the elements of it, which you can’t fit into a single feature, suddenly it could be allowed to be all those things it is at its very best. On their gag on Kimmel about how technology has changed, and how that affects the show Duchovny: I honestly think the writers’ time is best spent not even concerning itself with the kind of questions about how the show exists now, because I feel like every 10 years or so people like to run around proclaiming that the world has changed and technology has changed us. And the fact is: we’re still humans. Our human nature is exactly the same as it was 500 years ago, let alone five years ago. And that’s really what the show concerns itself with; human nature, and possibility and the freedom to wonder and wander. On their chemistry on screen Duchovny: What exists in the writing, as well, is that these two people are true partners and they complete one another intellectually and emotionally. I do think that’s very romantic, when you have a man and a woman treating each other as equals. And not just as equals, but as necessary components of one another. Without the other, they fall as people, as entities, as investigators. It’s highly romantic and yet not sexual, though there’s a lot of tension. Anderson: They have a clear depth of caring about one another, and that’s what really gets people. They care about one another’s welfare, and so even if they’re at odds in their beliefs, their caring transcends that, through all nine seasons. On how they had chemistry when they first met Anderson: We didn’t know each other at all, but for some reason there was something in the room between the two of us that wasn’t there with others. To a degree, you can manufacture that as actors, and you have to most of the time, but for some reason there was something tangible and palpable that existed between us, right then. On if we’ll get more X-Files Anderson: I’m open to the conversation, though they haven’t come to us yet. I have no clue when they’re going to. I’m getting on with the rest of my life and I’m booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture. [From Deadline] I love how Anderson is very blunt and matter-of-fact about her busy schedule and the fact that she’s not waiting around for producers to come to her about doing more shows. She’s putting producers on notice, which she did before by revealing that she was initially offered half of what Duchovny was for the reboot. You know he’s the one who told her that, and that he has her back. Their rapport has always been palpable, which is so much of why the show works. I do think they had something more happening recently but so many of you have told me that’s wishful thinking on my part. As for Duchovny’s thoughts on how technology should be written into the show in the future, I disagree that it shouldn’t be a consideration. The tech-heavy episodes in the original series were some of my favorites and I absolutely loved The Lone Gunmen. photos credit: WENN and FameFlynet. Header image from Mark Mann for Awardsline

Amber Heard was arrested for domestic violence against Tasya van Ree in 2009

TMZ continues to operate at Team Johnny Depp’s mouthpiece and private investigator for some reason. TMZ delivered Team Depp’s hopeful PR-knockout against Amber Heard’s story in the past 12 hours. First, TMZ is still obsessed with the idea that Amber faked her injuries from the late May incident, where Heard claimed that Depp attacked her and hit her in the face with an iPhone. TMZ reports that two of the concierges working at Amber and Johnny Depp’s LA building say that they “saw no bruising on her face” on Monday, May 23rd, two days after the attack. The concierges even said that her complexion looked great, and if they’re called to testify, that’s what they’ll say. So, yeah. But TMZ dropped the biggest “bombshell” overnight. Amber was once arrested and booked for domestic violence against her then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree. Amber Heard — who claims she was the victim of domestic violence by husband Johnny Depp — was herself arrested for domestic violence against her then-domestic partner … TMZ has learned. According to law enforcement sources and documents, Amber and Tasya van Ree got in an argument on September 14, 2009 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Amber allegedly grabbed and struck Tasya in the arm, which upset Tasya and triggered the arrest. Amber was arrested and booked for misdemeanor domestic violence. Her mug shot was taken and she appeared in court the following day. TMZ has obtained audio of the court hearing, where the prosecutor declined to move forward with the case — we’re told because the women both lived in California. The judge told Amber she was not off the hook … prosecutors could reconsider and refile within the 2-year statute of limitations. Amber thanks the judge and leaves the courtroom. We reached out to Amber’s lawyer … so far no word back. [From TMZ] It’s worth noting that Amber and Tasya stayed together for several years after this 2009 incident and it’s widely believed that Amber “left” Tasya for Johnny back in 2013-ish. It’s also worth noting that even if Amber struck Tasya in the arm once, that doesn’t mean that somehow Johnny Depp never abused Amber. But it would stupid to think that this 2009 arrest doesn’t damage Amber’s case. Once again, we’re reminded that if you tell people that you’re a victim of domestic violence, you’re the one whose life will be examined and investigated. A few more things… regarding the TMZ article about the concierges, Amber’s friend iO Tillett Wright wrote a series of tweets – go here to read. Wright basically says that she’s a witness to Depp’s abuse, that Amber had bruises and that Amber has “photos, texts, witnesses, and filed a restraining order.” Wright slammed the sh-t out of TMZ for their reporting. Also, regarding those 2014 text messages between Amber and Johnny’s assistant Stephen Deuters, People Magazine got their hands on the original iPhone backups of the text messages and they gave the backups to a computer forensic consultant. The forensic consultant says that the texts are for real. And in other text messages provided to People, Deuters and Heard are texting about getting Depp professional help for his drug and alcohol abuse. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Game of Thrones Gambling Odds: Wager on Who Will Win the Iron Throne!

Now that most of the storylines in Game of Thrones have progressed beyond the point that George R.R. Martin has reached in his ongoing A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, all bets are off in terms of what might happen next. Of course, that's just a figure of speech. What we really mean to say is – it's time for the betting to begin! You see, up until now, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were working from some very popular source material, which meant lots of people had a good idea of where the plot was headed. Sure, there were some digressions here and there, but for the most part, the show remained true to the broad strokes of Martin's novels. These days we're in spoiler-free territory, and not even those smug book-readers know what'll happen next. Though Season 6 has just begun, we've already seen one major twist, and you can be sure there will be more to come. Like those intimidating fellas who run the Iron Bank of Braavos, Vegas oddsmakers never pass up an opportunity to make a buck, so naturally, they're now taking bets on the likelihood that several major characters will win "the great game" and sit atop the Iron Throne. Check out the odds in the gallery below, and whatever you do, don't sleep on Hodor – people like a politician of few words: 1. Jon Snow: 5/2 The odds favor the bastard son of Ned Stark (or, if you believe certain theories, Rhaegar Targaryen). It may seem unlikely for a dead man to become king, but hey, who would’ve guessed that Donald Trump would have a real shot at being president? Anything can happen, folks! 2. Daenerys Targaryen: 3/1 Obviously, the Khaleesi has a good chance of being the first female on the Iron Throne. It’s a fairly safe soon have one more title to add to her incredibly long list. 3. Tyrion Lannister: 7/1 Tyrion is like the Bernie Sanders of this race. He’s a long shot, but a lot of people really, really like him, and sometimes that’s all it takes. 4. Petyr Baelish: 15/2 Never underestimate Littlefinger! The man might be the smoothest talker in Westeros. 5. Bran or Rickon Stark: 16/1 Bran, maybe. Rickon, not so much. Has anyone even seen that kid lately?! 6. Margaery Tyrell: 18/1 She may have married two kings, but we still have a hard time picturing Margaery on the Iron Throne. View Slideshow

Gwyneth Paltrow: Dill is for peasants, ‘it’s not really a food, it offends me’

Gwyneth Paltrow is still doing the promotional rounds to support It’s All Easy, her latest tedious and elitist cookbook. And as we’ve already covered, the promotion is Classic Goop, full of amazing throw-away judgments on food, cooking and how the peasants live and eat. Apparently, Gwyneth has a hate-on for dill. DILL. Of all things. Hating dill is like hating mustard: pointless. Gwyneth thinks dill is offensive. She also thinks microwaves are the devil, which we already learned this week. Her least favorite food: “I really don’t like dill. It’s not really a food, but it really offends me.” No microwaves: “I believe in old fashioned ways of heating things up. It’s really not so tough to put an oven on or gasoline steaming. It’s like five minutes.” No pre-made salads: “My philosophy is, it’s really easy to make your own salad at home. It’s cheaper, it’s healthier, you know what’s in it. I’ve had some great experiences with the grab-and-go salad, and some really, really terrible ones.” Getting her kids to eat healthier: “I really find if I put out lots of dipping sauces, or lettuce cups, or they’re filling things themselves or making tacos, they’re more involved. …They’ll eat more vegetables. My kids are pretty good at home. I try to keep the pantry pretty clean, but when we’re out in the world, it’s all Oreos and Cheez-Its and stuff like that, unfortunately.” [From ET] CHEEZ-ITS! I’ll admit, Cheez-Its and Oreos are not for me… usually. But then again, I have like five bags of discounted Easter candy in my house because I’m obsessed with chocolate-and-peanut-butter eggs. We all have our little food quirks, is my point. Gwyneth’s “dill is not really a food” quirk reminds me of one of my dad’s food quirks – my dad was always insistent that bacon was not a meal. One of his favorite food-related sayings was “bacon is a condiment.” As in, bacon should never be used as a stand-alone meal, but merely an accessory to a meal. Meanwhile, Gwyneth was asked again about her old quote about “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can.” When asked if she still feels that way, Goop said: “Hell yes. You know, crack might be extreme, but spray cheese is not my kind of party.” Then this perfect tweet happened: Gwenyth Paltrow is affluenza's Patient Zero. https://t.co/zdtrzM8cYs — Samantha Bunten (@samanthabunten) April 12, 2016 Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

LeAnn Rimes called a ‘has-been’ with a ‘Kardasian attitude’ by country radio host

Holding each other up this morning. I would love to see the cost-benefit analysis of LeAnn’s tours, because I suspect that any money she makes from touring and live performances at this point is negligible. But she was in Texas late last week and she did a show at Billy Bob’s Texas, “the world’s largest honky tonk.” A local songwriter/country musician/radio personality named Bill Mack came out to wish her well. Billy Mack knows country music. He’s seen country artists come and go. And he was not impressed with LeAnn. Incidentally, Mack wrote “Blue,” LeAnn’s biggest single. First, Mack tweeted this: So funny @leannrimes had the lowest attendance @BillyBobsTexas and still acts like a Diva. What a shame. Go back to LA.#Sellout #Hasbeen — Billy Mack (@BillyMackRadio) April 9, 2016 Major OUCH, right? Totally. But then Billy Mack went one step further and explained his tweet in a Facebook post that’s getting a lot of attention: Almost comical, My dad and I go to Billy Bob’s Texas (Which is a whole other story) to see a LeAnn Rimes and wish her the best (which by the way the lowest attendance I’ve seen there in a long time) No need to wonder why she is a has been in this industry. Her lack of humility, to her fans, my dad, Curb Records, or anyone else who has ever been in her corner in the early part of her career is hard, but a lil cute to watch. Sometimes it’s best to stay in LA. Don’t crawl back to Texas with a Kardashian attitude, expecting a Texas size applause. I wish her the best, but you can’t fool the fans. I speak only for me, and nobody else on this matter. [From Billy Mack’s Facebook] Just how rude was LeAnn Rimes to this guy’s dad, for the love of God? I feel like this was more than just average LeAnn obliviousness. This seems like she went out of her way to be a total diva and a—hole. Anyway, just goes to show you – LeAnn is a legend in her own mind, even if her reality doesn’t back it up. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and Instagram.
