Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ending

This news breaks my heart.  Like 99 times over. The beloved cop comedy starring Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher will wrap with its previously announced eighth season. The final season will consist of 10 episodes — its lowest order ever. What’s more, the series may not even air till 2022!! Word is Brooklyn is facing a significant challenge in the wake of George Floyd’s killing by a police officer. “The writers are all rethinking how we’re going to move forward,” Samberg, who also exec produces the series, told People in July. [Everyone is] discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally OK about? I know that we’ll figure it out, but it’s definitely a challenge.” So it looks like they couldn’t come up with a decent way to handle funny cops. And it makes me sad because it would have been great to get their spin on everything. The post Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ending appeared first on Today's Evil Beet Gossip.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine to address police roll in society in next season

Back in June the decision-makers on the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine threw out the scripts for four upcoming episodes in the wake of protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd. Now Andy Samberg is stating that the show’s characters will ‘examine their roles in the world’ as the cop comedy retools in the wake of the protests. The 42-year-old actor also clarified that the long-running comedy would address both systemic racism and police brutality in its upcoming season during an interview with USA Today that was published on Friday. ‘The challenge is going to be being honest about what is going on in the world and not shying away from the fact that there are serious problems and also not punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters,’ he said. I’ve always felt that BNN did an amazing job of remaining genuinely funny while reflecting the progressive culture unfolding around us.  And they did so without making the characters bumbling idiots.  So I’m all in on checking out their handling of this sensitive topic while operating from within the profession seen as the problem. So far all we know about the release of season 8 is that it will come in early 2021.
