Drew Carey: ‘The Price is Right’ contestants are often drunk or high

It’s hard to believe this, but The Price is Right has been around for 52 years. I honestly thought it had been much longer than that! But I guess since for Gen X and Millennials, it was the ultimate “stay home sick from school” show, so to us, it feels like it’s been around forever. I’ll never forget when OG host Bob Barker died (RIP) at age 99, and it just felt like one of the biggest winks from the Universe ever. Drew Carey has been hosting the game show since Barker’s retirement in June 2007, which is also something that is bonkers for me to wrap my head around. Over the years, there have been some memorable contestants and some great moments. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Drew shared that over the course of his 17 years as host, he’s noticed that many contestants, um, self-lubricate prior to taping. In fact, He says having a contestant appear while drunk or high is “not unusual.”

“That happens here all the time,” Carey said. “They’ll have a gummy, or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual. There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to UCB [sketch improv theater, Upright Citizens Brigade] to hang out and they were like, ‘Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?’ I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’ He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.”

[From Deadline via Pajiba]

Well, I’m certainly never going to watch The Price is Right the same way again! I wonder if that’s been happening with contestants ever since the show began. If so, my 5th grade mind is blown. I bet what Drew shared is on the low-hanging-fruit end of the stories he could tell about Price is Right contestants. This isn’t the first time someone has shared behind-the-scenes gossip from the show, either. 10 years ago, former Barker’s Beauties Kathleen Bradley wrote a book, titled Backstage at The Price Is Right: Memoirs of A Barker Beauty which spilled a lot of crazy stuff that happened off-camera. I remember hearing about it when it came out, but never thought to follow up on it until now. Anyway, does anyone have any guesses as to which contestants since 2007 have been memorable enough to have been inebriated during their appearance? I don’t watch the show as frequently as I did during the Barker days, but now I kinda want to start up again so I can play my own personal game of “Guess which contestant isn’t sober” bingo.

Yellowstone’s Forrie J. Smith kicked off plane for refusing to sit next to passenger in a mask

Yellowstone is ending when the second half of season 5 airs this fall, and it seems it’s coming not a moment too soon for the makers of the hit show. Grumblings first started over a year ago that star Kevin Costner reportedly wanted out. Meanwhile creator Taylor Sheridan sued another Yellowstone star, Cole Hauser, last December over trademark issues, saying their coffee company logos looked too much alike. And now this: cast member Forrie J. Smith was just “throwed off” a plane for refusing to sit next to a passenger who was wearing a mask. Yes he was drinking, but he wasn’t drunk! Smith lamented his treatment in an Instagram video he recorded while still at the airport. Strangely, most of the commenters had a different takeaway from Smith’s story:

Yellowstone’s Forrie J. Smith is stirring up some controversy with fans after his recent video during an Instagram Live.

The 65-year-old actor, who plays ranch hand Lloyd Pierce on the hit Paramount series, took to Instagram on Saturday after allegedly being kicked off a flight.

“I just got kicked off a plane in — where the hell am I at? — Houston, Texas, because I told them I didn’t feel comfortable sitting next to somebody with a mask on,” Smith claimed in the video, which was later shared to his main profile.

He then admitted to having been drinking, saying, “Yeah, I’ve been drinking. I’ve been sitting in the airport for three hours, yeah, I’m drinking. But I ain’t drunk. But they throwed me off the plane ‘cause I’m drunk ‘cause you people won’t stand up and tell everybody what bulls**t this is.”

He added of his decision not to sit next to a fellow passenger with a mask on, “I just told them I didn’t feel comfortable about sitting next to somebody that had to wear a mask. And I’m off the plane.”

Fans quickly took to the comments section, expressing their disappointment at Smith’s comments.

“How do you know that person doesn’t have cancer and just is going through chemotherapy treatments or something else that warrants them wearing one?” one commenter wrote.

“For the life of me I cannot fathom why someone else wearing a mask is so threatening to some people!!! Many people live with a loved one who is immunocompromised (e.g. cancer, heart disease) or they themselves may be immunocompromised. OR maybe they’re not feeling well and are being considerate of others by wearing a mask to contain their germs,” another person wrote. “How fragile are some people that a simple mask sets them off to this degree? It’s absolutely ridiculous!! While I appreciate Mr Smith’s talent, this makes me no longer respect him as a human being. Unfollowing!”

One Yellowstone fan noted, “I wore a mask all the time when my mom was on hospice care and traveling back and forth to see her. This post makes me sad as a fan.”

As of Monday, the video was still up and Smith had not replied to the upset fans.

[From ET Online]

I mean, what else is there to say? You’re welcome, SNL writers? How someone could be so affronted or scared by a passenger wearing a mask, a measure that protects the wearer and everyone else around them, completely boggles the mind. Plus, you know, all Smith had to do was sit next to this passenger during the flight in exactly the same way he would sit next to someone not wearing a mask! I’d be laughing if it weren’t so infuriating and pervasive. One glimmer of hope was this comment I read on Smith’s Insta from a self-identified non-liberal fan: “Bro I love your acting, and I am not a liberal, and you were kicked off because you are drunk. Bottom line. This will come back to haunt you.” Yup. Also, Smith says in his rambling that he was drinking because he was stuck at the airport for three hours. Mr. Smith, may I introduce you to the pleasurable and delightful activity of reading?

Lamar Odom: Intervention Staged By Family! NBA Star Peaces Out in a Hurry!

Desperate to help any way that they can, Lamar Odom’s family staged an intervention in New York City Friday night, according to reports.

Suffice it to say, this did not go over well.

Lamar Odom in a Daze

In response to the former NBA star’s recent troubling behavior, his family decided to step in and try to get him the help he badly needs.

A source quoted by Us Weekly confirms that the mediation took place on Friday night with several of Odom’s close family members.

Lamar’s longtime partner Liza Morales, the two children she has with Lamar, his aunt JaNean Mercer, and several cousins were involved.

Good for them for stepping up, but … it didn’t take.

“Lamar was doing really bad and his family was going to stage an intervention on Friday,” the insider tells the celebrity news magazine.

According to a separate report from Extra, the retired L.A. Lakers baller “was extremely surprised” by this and quickly “left the location.”

Tony Robbins Fans Walk on Hot Coals, Unsurprisingly Get Burned

For years, motivational speaker Tony Robbins has made a killing by telling followers to "Unleash the Power Within," but they're really burned up over his teachings now.

Like, literally.

The author and self-help guru reportedly had fans walk over a blanket of hot coals during a seminar in Dallas, encouraging them to, ya know, conquer their fears.

To the surprise of no sane individual, more than 30 participants were treated for burns to their feet and legs, with five requiring hospitalization.

I'm certain there are far safer fear-conquering activities that could've worked just as well, but nothing brings out your inner carnie like hot coal-stepping.

Amazingly, Robbins' people have defended the coal walk, claiming that more than 7,000 people performed the feat but only five had to be rushed to the hospital.

Call me crazy, but I think that's five too many.

"I know it might not look that way, but this was actually another successful fire walk," Robbins' head trainer Chad Schinke told reporters.

"We had over 7,000 people that walked across the hot coals and we always have a few people that have some discomfort afterwards," he added.

"Discomfort" he calls it. Dude.

"We do our best to take care of them and ensure that they get whatever help that they feel like they need."

"Help that they feel like they need?" This guy's a tool.

Funnily enough, with every cult there are always folks drunk on Kool-Aid who refuse to fault the ringleader.

"I'm just shocked, I'm out of words," said one participant. "I've never seen this in all of my events and I have to just say it has nothing to do with the training."

"It has absolutely nothing to do with Tony Robbins," she added.

YES IT DOES, LADY.

Do we have to point out the obvious? It was his event, he suggested the ridiculous exercise and he surely knew of the dangers because even my frigging cat knows better than to do something so asinine.

The god complex, people. It's a scary, scary thing.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is ‘not worried about’ Johnny Depp’s personal problems

iger2

Bob Iger is the CEO of Disney. Which means he’s getting a lot of the credit for the “success stories” in Hollywood these days. Disney owns LucasFilm, Marvel and Pixar, arguably the most successful properties in the film industry, domestically and internationally. So it’s no surprise that Iger was named The Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful Person In Entertainment. You can see THR’s Hollywood 100 list here. It includes people like Leo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jimmy Fallon and Lin-Manuel Miranda. My intention was just to glance through Iger’s extensive interview, but I ended up being drawn in and I read the whole piece. Iger talks a lot about Marvel, Rogue One, Shanghai Disney, the Orlando massacre and more. He says Rogue One is “actually going to be a fine film” and that Disney is truly working on another Indiana Jones movie. But here’s something that might interest you at a gossip level: Iger was asked directly about Johnny Depp.

THR: Do you have Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean in the park?
Iger:
Yes.

And Johnny Depp’s personal problems?
Not worried about it.

The scandal will pass?
I don’t know whether it passes or not. We have Jack Sparrow.

You think people separate.
Right.

[From THR]

And that’s it. That’s the only thing he says about Depp. I give Iger some credit for not slamming Amber and for not giving Depp some ringing character reference or endorsement. But I do think Iger is kidding himself if he thinks the public will be able to separate Jack Sparrow and a drunk, abusive scarf monster.

Also: this interview took place several weeks ago, during the heat of the Depp-Heard back-and-forth in the press. It also took place after Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass bombed at the box office. Disney has a lot of money invested in Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean, and while Disney will still be okay if Pirates bombs (they still have Stars Wars and Marvel, after all), Disney doesn’t want to eat the $320 million it cost to make POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales. And that’s just the production cost! It will cost Disney tens of millions to promote the film. Iger is counting on the idea that by the time the film comes out (next summer), people will have forgotten all about everything. Is that what will happen though?

Selma Blair mixed prescription pills with wine, had a crazy meltdown on a plane

We're leaving on a jet plane. Dad is already asleep. Not for long. Bwahahahha . #fathersdayweekend

A photo posted by Selma Blair (@therealselmablair) on

To celebrate Father’s Day, Selma Blair and her ex-partner Jason Bleick went down to Cancun, Mexico with their son Arthur Saint, who is 4 years old. Judging from the above Instagram, Selma, Arthur and Jason took a long weekend – they were in Cancun last Thursday through Monday. On Monday, Selma and Arthur boarded a plane back to LA. And that’s when everything went haywire. According to witnesses, Selma mixed some medication with wine on the flight, and she began behaving bizarrely.

Selma Blair was taken off a Delta flight Monday on a stretcher after losing control … TMZ has learned. Witnesses on a flight from Cancun, Mexico to LAX tell us, Blair was in first class and drinking wine. The witnesses say it appeared she put something in the glass and mixed it in.
We’re told she suddenly started crying, “He burns my private parts. He won’t let me eat or drink.”
The witnesses say she continued, “He beats me. He’s going to kill me.”

We’re told 2 nurses on board came over to help and checked her bags for pills. Our sources say the pilot radioed ahead and told the tower there was a passenger on board who had been mixing alcohol and meds. When the plane landed medical personal boarded the plane and took Blair off on a stretcher. She was taken to a nearby hospital.

[From TMZ]

My first instinct when reading Selma’s words was… I bet it’s nothing. Not because I want to shrug off those horrific words, it’s just that we’ve all said some crazy sh-t while drunk and/or high. She probably didn’t even know what she was saying, if the medications she mixed with wine were strong enough. People Magazine had more details about this whole incident and beyond too – their sources claim Selma was “happy and healthy” the entire time she was in Cancun, and she got spa treatments while her ex spent time with their son. An official (with the airline, perhaps) confirms that Selma had “taken a combination of prescription medication with alcohol,” but that it was unclear “what sort of prescription medications.” The worst part? Arthur Saint was traveling with his mom! Ugh. This is a bad situation.

Also: reportedly, Selma went into rehab back in 2007, although she never discussed it publicly so who knows? As for Selma being “happy and healthy” during the Cancun trip, the Daily Mail published photos of her where she looks like she’s taken #AllThePills.

Omar Mateen’s Ex-Wife Describes Shooter’s Gay Tendencies, Rage

Was Omar Mateen gay? The ex-wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter and her fiance certainly don't seem shocked by that recent assertion.

In the wake of shocking claims about the gunman's sexuality, Sitora Yusufiy made comments of her own in an interview that back them up.

Yusufiy, who was married to Mateen in 2009 for four months, and Marco Dias, to whom she is now engaged, sat down with SBT Brazil TV.

There, she opened up about her ex-husband’s alleged past.

Speaking in Portuguese on Yusufiy’s behalf, Dias stated that his fiancée believed that Omar Mateen exhibited “homosexual tendencies.”

He also claimed that the killer, who shot 49 people dead in an LGBT club on Sunday, was derided as gay in front of her by his father.

Yusufiy previously called Mateen abusive and unstable.

"When we had gotten married, he confessed to me about his past that was recent at that time," she recalls.

"He very much enjoyed going to clubs and the nightlife and there was a lot of pictures of him,” she explained.

“I feel like it’s a side of him or a part of him that he lived but probably didn’t want everybody to know about.”

When asked if she believed Mateen was gay, Yusufiy responded, “I don’t know," but implicitly commented that it was possible, even likely.

"He never personally or even physically made any indication while we were together of that, but he did feel very strongly about homosexuality.”

As reported earlier, patrons at Pulse nightclub, where he committed the worst shooting in U.S. history, believe they saw Mateen there regularly.

One customer recalled to the Orlando Sentinel:

“Sometimes he would go over in the corner and sit and drink by himself, and other times he would get so drunk he was loud and belligerent.”

“We didn’t really talk to him a lot, but I remember him saying things about his dad at times. He told us he had a wife and child.”

One of the gunman’s former classmates also opened up about his alleged homosexuality, saying he once asked him out “romantically.”
