Elton John Muppet Show costume – 1970s flashback!
Anyone who grew up in the late 70s remembers The Muppet Show, and for many of us kids it was the highlight of our week.
One episode you surely remember is when Elton John sang “Crocodile Rock”. A young and very flamboyant Elton fit right in with the Muppets with his bright colored feathers, his rose tinted glasses and his sparkly headdress.
Elton was backed up by the Muppet band Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. The band consisted of Dr. Teeth on keyboard, Sgt. Floyd Pepper on bass guitar, Janice on guitar, and Animal on drums. Was Animal not everyone’s favorite Muppet?
The Muppet Show set was decorated like a lush jungle with flowers, trees and shrubs. Along with Elton and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem were the crocodiles who lurked below.
The Muppet Show ran from September 13, 1976 to March 15, 1981. Besides Elton John, other celebrities who appeared on the show include Dom DeLuise, Ethel Merman, Diana Ross, Melissa Manchester (remember her?) and Leo Sayer. However, none had quite the bling that Elton had.
