Lauren Graham & Alexis Bledel haven’t committed to the Gilmore Girls documentary

Gilmore Girls aired from October 2000 through May 2007. I was a big fan during its original run because I loved the relationship between Lorelai and Rory, and really related to Lorelai’s relationship with her own parents, Emily and Richard. When I turned 32 I had this big extensional moment, realizing that I was Lorelai’s age when the series started, only she had a 16-year-old and I had a two-year-old.

There’s a Gilmore Girls documentary coming out soon cleverly titled, Drink Coffee, Talk Fast. So far, several former stars are confirmed to be taking part, including Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Keiko Agena, Sally Struthers, Chad Michael Murray, and more. Notably missing from the cast list is Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, who gave a nod to Stars Hollow when they reunited to present an award at this year’s Emmys. Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Lauren on Sunday and asked her why she wasn’t participating in the documentary. Her answer was pretty straight-forward: She’s not participating if the GG series creators, Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino, aren’t involved.

During the September 14 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Graham was asked whether she was going to be a part of the upcoming Gilmore Girls documentary, Drink Coffee, Talk Fast, which was previously titled Searching For Stars Hollow. Graham replied that she had not yet filmed for the documentary because the creators of Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, aren’t involved with it.

“I don’t do anything the creator of my show isn’t a part of, so, so far, no,” said Graham during the Entertainment Tonight interview.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that several Gilmore Girls stars, including Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Kathleen Wilhoite, Keiko Agena, Sally Struthers, Liz Torres, Emily Kuroda, Rose Abdoo, Matt Jones, Grant Lee Phillip, and Chad Michael Murray, will appear in Drink Coffee, Talk Fast. A few of the show’s crew members, such as Stan Zimmerman, who was a writer and producer for Gilmore Girls, director Jamie Babbit, and casting directors Jami Rudofsky and Mara Casey, were also interviewed for the project, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the documentary producers, Jim Demonakos, explained that Drink Coffee, Talk Fast “will reveal how Gilmore Girls came to life, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community with an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster.”

“This documentary is for fans of the show but also for anyone with an interest in cultural history and how it affects individual lives,” stated Demonakos.

In another statement, Meghna Balakumar, who co-directed the upcoming documentary with Kevin Konrad Hanna, said that they have “shot more than 100 hours of footage and have already unearthed stories, commentary, critiques, and more.”

“And we’re continuing to shoot more interviews [with the Gilmore Girls cast and crew] in the coming months to present the most complete, full and truly new story of the show’s impact and legacy that is only possible at this historical moment,” stated Balakumar, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the red carpet for the 2025 Emmy Awards, Graham shared why she believed Gilmore Girls has had such a devoted fanbase, nearly two decades after the original show ended. The actress credited the show’s fun, fast-paced dialogue and the bond between Lorelai and Rory as to why fans are still obsessed.

“I think it’s the incredible writing that kind of meets you no matter what age you are. You keep rediscovering the language. And I think it’s the relationship at the core because who doesn’t want to be best friends with their mom and their kid,” said Graham to the publication.

This documentary sounds fascinating, and I’m sure that everyone involved has done so earnestly. That said, it’s noteworthy that in addition to Graham and Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Liza Weil, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sean Gunn also haven’t interviewed for Drink Coffee, Talk Fast. I bet that some of them end up giving interviews eventually. As for the Palladinos, I wonder if there’s a reason why they haven’t participated yet. Is it scheduling conflicts? Money? Do they want to keep their cards close to their chest in case they do their own documentary one day? Have they been in contact with Lauren and some of the other cast members to ask them not to participate?

I agree with Lauren’s assessment about GG’s staying power. The writing is sharp, the relationships are enviable, and the situations are the perfect balance between relatable and soap opera.

Malin Akerman & Brittany Snow were fun last minute presenters at the Emmys

I read over on JustJared that Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow’s presenting gig was a last minute switchup after Sofia Vergara dropped out due to an allergic eye reaction. This makes me wonder if the backup presenters also rehearse, kind of like understudies or alernate jurors. They must, because Malin and Brittany were so seamless. Brittany apologized that she was slow to come out on stage, because her dress was tight and she kind of shuffled. Then Malin said “I don’t mind waiting for you to come out” and the crowd howled. This was of course a reference to their Hunting Wives characters. That show was so trashy good!

Malin was wearing a black Greta Constantine gown with a weird pink split peplum. It’s kind of dippy but she’s pulling it off. She looks so statuesque next to Brittany. Malin is 5’8″ and Brittany is 5’4″ according to IMDB.

Brittany couldn’t remember the name of her dress designer during her red carpet interview but Malin swooped in to say it was Marilyn Monroe-inspired. It’s phenomenal. They are both so pretty and their looks complement each other.

We also got a Gilmore Girls mini reunion complete with a recreation of Stars Hollow for the show’s 25th anniversary. Lauren Graham was in a neat looking Akris gown made up of floral cutouts. She got the Kris Jenner special, but it looks good. If I could be guaranteed results like that I’d probably get it too.

I’m including Mariska Hargitay as she was part of the Law & Order: SVU tribute. They mentioned during the segment that she’s been on SVU for 27 years! Ice T said in a red carpet interview that watching the show was helpful for people who had gone through trauma and hadn’t had justice and I thought that was profound. Mariska wore two different gowns on the red carpet and during the ceremony and both were excellent.

Lauren Graham doesn’t get Gilmore Girls residuals: there are no residuals on Netflix

During the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Mandy Moore shocked a lot of people when she revealed that, despite a reported 18 billion streaming hours on Hulu, she only made “pennies” in residuals from This Is Us. A few months later, Aaron Paul shared that he did not earn any streaming residuals from his Emmy-winning role on Breaking Bad. Over on the production side of things, the writers for Suits revealed that even though it was one of the most-streamed properties on Netflix that year with over three billion minutes watched, they’d only made a couple of hundred dollars each. Basically, actors, writers, and creators were getting screwed while streaming executives were making bank.

Like Suits and Breaking Bad, Gilmore Girls picked up a ton of new fans after it started streaming on Netflix. Lorelai Gilmore herself, Lauren Graham, is busy promoting her new series, The Z-Suite. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently, Lauren revealed that she doesn’t make much at all in GG residuals. Why? Because there’s “no residuals on Netflix.”

Lauren Graham is spilling some hot Luke’s coffee when it comes to her paycheck. The Gilmore Girls alum, who starred alongside Alexis Bledel on the WB series from 2000 to 2007 and in the 2016 four-episode revival on Netflix, detailed how much she gets paid now that the show has become popular on streaming platforms.

“There really are no residuals on Netflix,” Lauren said during a March 19 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “But I’ve been paid in love and appreciation.”

While Lauren said she doesn’t make money from residuals—payments typically made to actors and the creative teams behind TV shows due to reruns, syndication or streaming deals—actors have been trying to make changes in Hollywood, with residuals being key discussion point of both the writer and actor strikes in 2023. (At the time, Mandy Moore also admitted her This Is Us streaming residuals were “very tiny, like 81-cent checks.”)

And for Lauren, her lack of compensation may be surprising to fans who have seen how much the show skyrocketed in popularity after it started streaming on Netflix.

“We have definitely reached more people than we were reaching on The WB,” Lauren continued. “And now it’s trickled into younger people, older people, men whose kids or wives probably have forced them to watch it. Yeah, I get stopped a lot. It surprises me every time though.”

Although the 58-year-old—who dated fellow Parenthood alum Peter Krause from 2010 to 2021—may not be growing her bank account as a result of her time on the show, she has been open about her undying appreciation for getting to play Lorelai Gilmore.

“It’s the best part I ever had,” Lauren said during a February appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I love doing it, and I think it was really wonderful. It’s just that thing where it was the perfect material at the perfect time with the perfect writer—and it just means so much to me.”

[From E News Online]

This is wild. During the strikes, Sean Gunn also mentioned that he was receiving almost nothing in GG residuals. Just like Breaking Bad and Suits, Gilmore Girls has made a ton of money for Netflix. In fact, Netflix made more than $8 billion in 2024. How much does it hurt their baseline if they shelled out an extra like $500 million to pay people what they’re owed? I thought that part of the strike negotiations was to make sure actors earned more money from streaming content. Apparently, the deal mainly applied to new properties and are dependent on them meeting certain streaming numbers. According to THR, many of them have met the threshold for bonuses.

I grew up watching Gilmore Girls, from mid-high school through just after college graduation. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I cannot believe that it’s been 25 years since it first aired! I did not have any type of crisis when I turned 40 last year, but I definitely had some sort of internal reckoning when I turned 32 and realized that I was now the same age that Lorelai was during the first season, only she was a badass with a 16-year-old and I was struggling with a two-year-old. It makes me so angry to learn that none of them are getting any residual money.

Lauren Graham on her breakup: ‘I’m in a better place, but it’s still just a shame’

Lauren Graham’s fourth book, Have I Told You This Already? Stories I Don’t Want to Forget to Remember, is coming out later this month. She wrote it during the pandemic to stave off the dread of the virus and lack of work. It also helped her get over her breakup with Peter Krause. Lauren and Peter were together for almost 12 years before they spilt in the summer of 2021. Lauren worked hard not to let the breakup up “flatten” her, so she focused on the good things she had going in her life and writing the book. Now that she’s had a little time to process it, she realizes she’s in “a better place,” but she’s still sad about it ending.

Lauren Graham definitely has more to say.

The actress, producer and writer — whose charm and quick wit have resulted in three New York Times bestsellers — is releasing another collection of essays about her life and career, Have I Told You This Already? Stories I Don’t Want to Forget to Remember, available Nov. 15.

Writing also became a good distraction for Graham when her almost 12-year relationship with actor Peter Krause, whom she began datingafter the two costarred as siblings on Parenthood, ended during the summer of 2021.

“I knew I was resilient because I just always have been,” she says. “You take your knocks and don’t complain. That’s how I was always raised.”

“Somewhere in that is a year like this where I just was not going to let [the breakup] flatten me,” she continues. “I was like, ‘Okay, well, look at all the good stuff I have, and look at all the good times,’ and ‘I’m going to write this book.’ Thank goodness I have these outlets and these stories to tell.”

Though they lived together and Graham helped raise the actor’s now-20-year-old son Roman from a previous relationship, the two preferred to keep the romance out of the spotlight.

“I think part of all the positives of having known each other for a really long time were there,” she says. “And one of the negatives of that is we almost came into a relationship as people in their 40s without asking any of the questions people in their 40s should be asking. We had such a good time together that I didn’t maybe ask some fundamental questions about ‘What are your values and what do you envision?’ and those more grown-up things. And then they just caught up with us.”

After the split, Graham rented a beach home and then returned to L.A. to focus on her work.

“I’m less on the run,” says the actress, acknowledging that the passing of time has been the greatest gift. “Any pain still really has its moments. I was a contributor in the life of his child, and so we’re connected. And yes, I’m in a better place, but it’s still just a shame. It’s just sad to me.”

[From People]

I hate to say this but now the gossip in me is awakened. Like, what were the fundamental questions Lauren forgot to ask? I was bummed when Lauren and Peter broke up because I like both of them very much and they seemed well suited for each other. I loved their low-key vibe to the relationship – everyone knew they were together, but they kept it quiet. But prior, I just assumed they were a pandemic causality, especially when Peter got used to living without Lauren when she was stuck in Canada filming during Covid. And maybe they were, maybe that’s when they finally thought to ask these questions they’d ignored for so long. I can see what Lauren’s saying about people in their 40s or older just assuming they are all on the same page and forgetting they still have decades to consider how their partner factors in. And I agree, it is a shame. But I’m glad Lauren’s in a better place and can see that.

Lauren talked about what she’s looking for in her next relationship. She acknowledges she has everything she wants in life so she’s just looking for a good time, someone who is funny and kind. She must be in a better place if she’s open to what might be next. And if no guy comes along, it’s not an issue because Lauren’s already working on her fifth book, “a Bridget Jones-y thing set in Los Angeles.” I don’t mean to be a jerk, but I kind of hope the love of Lauren’s life takes his time because I want to read the LA B. Jones story.

Breakups Lauren Graham Peter Krause

Lauren Graham and Peter Krause split quietly last year after 10 years together

In sad news, Lauren Graham’s rep has confirmed to People Magazine that she and Peter Krause broke up “quietly” sometime last year. We first heard that they were a couple in 2010 when they co-starred on one of my favorite drama series, Parenthood, although they’d known each other for a long time. Peter is now starring on 9-1-1, which films in LA, and last year Lauren is on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which films in Vancouver. People’s reporting makes it sound like their work kept them apart and that this was a covid-related split.

Lauren Graham and Peter Krause are going their separate ways.

The Gilmore Girls alum’s rep confirmed the breakup news to PEOPLE exclusively, noting that Graham, 55, and Krause, 56, “quietly ended their relationship last year.”

The two actors first met in 1995. However, their relationship didn’t become romantic until nearly two decades later when they co-starred as siblings Adam and Sarah Braverman on Parenthood from 2010 to 2015.

in 2021, Graham explained that she couldn’t “come and go” back to her home with Krause because of quarantine rules while filming the new Disney series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, in Vancouver.

“Normally that’s a two-hour flight and you come home on the weekends but I couldn’t do that. So we were separated for almost 5 months, which had never happened before,” she told Ellen DeGeneres.

Upon returning to her house, Graham said “there were more piles” than usual and Krause and his son, Roman, had “really bonded.” While Graham said it’s “fantastic” that Krause spent quality time with his son, she joked it made her “reentry more difficult.”

“It was more like they were the married couple … they were like, ‘We don’t do it that way anymore’ in the kitchen or whatever. They were like, ‘No, no, no, this is how things happen,’” Graham recalled…

The actress also revealed Krause’s latest addition to their home: the “COVID Corner.”

“Peter started a thing, I guess to make COVID life fun, where he’d go to the store and stock up on ridiculous amounts of whatever and leave it in the corner of the living room and then he’d call it ‘COVID corner’ as if that somehow made these piles of stuff fun, or a place to visit or a place to show the guests,” she shared. “He’d be like ‘Hey guys, have you seen ‘COVID corner?’ And I was like ‘It’s not an amusement park.’”

Still, Graham said she felt she needed to “respect” Krause’s space and “allow it to exist because these times are tough and everyone just dealt with it their own way.”

[From People]

That interview Lauren did with Ellen that People excerpted hints at problems they had with day-to-day issues like clutter. I remember covering interviews early in their relationship where they gushed about each other. So many couples break up over minor problems that pile up and it’s not one big thing. When I was married it was the little things we never resolved that got on my nerves like that. While I have no idea why they split, this is sad and I hope they’re both doing OK. I like them as actors and people and was hoping it would work out.

Lauren Graham: Ive been on a diet for 35 years | lauren graham celebrity quotes

From Us Magazine:

Since the age of 11, Parenthood’s Lauren Graham has been watching what she eats. “I’ve been on a diet for 35 years,” the 46-year-old TV star reveals in the May issue of More.

As the years have gone, however, Graham has learned to love her appearance.  “I’ve spent a lot of time wondering, ‘What’s going to happen?’” she says of getting older. “I try not to allow myself to do that much anymore. I think I’ve gotten more comfortable with the unknown.”

“Acting is the most bizarre profession. You can stay in it for years and not really be in it and be waiting for someone to give you an opportunity,” Graham explains. “It’s like when I watch American Idol and see people who have been told to believe in themselves at all costs: It’s not always a good idea.”

… says 46 year-old Lauren.

One of the most hated British columnists, Samantha Brick, recently said that any self-respecting woman should be on a diet all her life.
