Mark Wahlberg feels pressure ‘whether it’s putting on weight, losing weight, whatever’

Yahoo has a body image series pun-tastically named It Figures, where they talk to different celebrities and experts about body confidence and self-esteem. Their latest conversation was with Mark Wahlberg. I actually think this makes sense, cause Wahlberg’s fitness regimen is arguably the biggest asset he brings to his projects. During his talk, Wahlberg touched on his productive hours between waking up (insanely) early and getting his kids up for school, and also the pressure he feels to get in the precise shape required for a role. The struggle is real, nevertheless he persists:

Mark Wahlberg works hard — just look at his alarm clock for proof. The actor, who previously woke up at 2:30 a.m. and more recently has added an hour of snoozing to arise at around 3:30 a.m., says this routine allows him to prioritize fitness and then leave the rest of the day to deal with the “too many other things” he has going on.

The actor acknowledges that his early rising time isn’t for everyone but doesn’t understand people’s reactions to his personal choice.

“When I kind of talked about my schedule at that point in time, it got a little blown out of proportion and people didn’t know how to interpret it. … People thought I was taking an hour and a half long shower,” he says, referring to the daily schedule he shared on Instagram in 2018. “But it’s just getting up early, having my prayer time, meditation, doing my workout, and then reading and doing all the things that I need to do before I even get the kids up for school. It just worked for me.”

Bedtime is a priority for Wahlberg too. “I want to get to bed as early as possible to get my eight hours of sleep.”

His routine aligns with ample research suggesting that the early morning might actually be the best time to exercise for various reasons. Wahlberg’s fitness goals, however, tend to be driven by his work.

“I always feel an immense amount of pressure when somebody takes a risk on me and says, ‘OK, I want to have you starring in this film. And you know, you’re supposed to show up like this,’” he explains. “Whether it’s putting on weight, losing weight, whatever it is, I have to deliver. I have to be prepared, I have to bring something to the table and I take that very, very seriously.”

[From Yahoo! Life]

“I always feel an immense amount of pressure when somebody takes a financial risk on my $30 million salary!” Yeah, the least he could do is get the physique right. Remember last year when we were laughing at the “look at the weight I gained!” Oscar campaign he did for Father Stu? Well the joke’s on us, cause he did get a Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama nomination… at the Satellite Awards (and lost to Brendan Frasier). So there. Call me unforgiving, but all I ever think of when I see Mark Wahlberg is the $1.5 million he swindled out of a few week’s worth of reshoots for his supporting role in All The Money In The World (on top of being paid ten times the amount the actual star of the film made). And that’s really not fair of me, because it ignores the blithely callous statements he made about the Trump presidency.

People think Jessica Simpson’s ‘movie star’ blind item is Mark Wahlberg

I love Jessica Simpson and I love that she gave us this excellent gossip gift this week. Jess wrote a short story for Amazon Original Stories, and her story has become the best blind item of the month. Basically, she met a “movie star” for the first time at the 2001 MTV VMA after-party – hosted by Jennifer Lopez at Man Ray – and the guy was flirting hard. Five years later, following her divorce from Nick Lachey, Jessica and the Movie Star reconnected and she was the side-chick for a while until she wised up. I went through the photos we have of the Man Ray party and my best guess (yesterday) was Liev Schreiber, who loves blondes and seems like he would definitely hit on Jessica. But hearing everyone’s guesses, I agree that Mark Wahlberg is a better option, probably even better than Leo DiCaprio. Everyone has sort of settled on Mark as the guy, including Page Six:

Jessica Simpson recently revealed that she fulfilled a “teenage fantasy” by hooking up with a “massive movie star” in a new “short and true story.” Since we here at Page Six can’t resist a juicy celebrity blind item — and Simpson penned a doozy — we’re taking our best guess.

The top contender based on clues given in Simpson’s tale, “Movie Star: They Always Say They’re Single,” is Mark Wahlberg. According to Simpson, now 42, she first met the mystery man at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards when she was on a break from her future ex-husband, Nick Lachey.

“He was undressing me with his eyes,” the singer told readers of the mystery man. Simpson noted that the mystery dude was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Wahlberg — who attended the show that year — wore jeans and a T-shirt.

Actors Will Smith, Will Ferrell, Andy Dick (who we immediately ruled out — sorry Andy!), Christopher Walken, Jamie Foxx and Johnny Knoxville (with whom Simpson has already publicly said she had an emotional affair) were also at the show.

Simpson said in the story that the anonymous actor knew her trainer. Ripped Wahlberg, now 51, is known for his workouts. In addition, the “Ted” star was already famous in 2001, and could’ve been a childhood crush of Simpson. Wahlberg – once known as Marky Mark who rapped with his Funky Bunch — famously posed for a shirtless Calvin Klein ad in 1992 with Kate Moss. In 1996, he played the lead opposite Reese Witherspoon in the hit thriller “Fear.”

Simpson wrote that she wound up meeting with the “massive movie star” again in 2006 at the Beverly Hills Hotel while he got ready for another big awards show. “He texted me throughout the awards show,” she said, explaining it was how she learned he wasn’t single. “Shortly after, I saw a photo of Movie Star on a red carpet with her. I was never ever in a million years going to be the other woman.”

[From Page Six]

I think the key to the blind item is that Jessica’s security guy/trainer already knew Mark, and that was the guy who introduced them. Like, I bet Liev Schreiber had a trainer too, but not someone who would run in Mark’s circles. Same with Leo. Mark was a movie star back then as well – consider his resume from 1994-2001: Fear, Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Perfect Storm, and in 2001, he was in Planet of the Apes and Rock Star. Boogie Nights made him a really big deal, as did working with George Clooney on Three Kings AND The Perfect Storm. Plus, there were always rumors that Mark cheated on Rhea constantly. Also notable: when Mark was allegedly texting Jessica in 2006, Rhea was pregnant!

Mark Wahlberg moved to Nevada from California, likely for the tax break

Mark Wahlberg called in to The Talk on Tuesday to discuss all of his businesses, which include: F45 gyms, food chain Wahlburgers, the production company Closest to the Hole, water company Aquahydrate, clothing company Municipal, car dealerships Wahlberg Auto Group, another production company Unrealistic Ideas, and a new sneaker partnership with StreetTrend LLC. Naturally, Sheryl Underwood asked Mark of All Trades how he balances his work and home life. I mean, we know the answer is his wife Rhea Durham does all the work at home raising Mark’s four kids, but Mark claimed that when he’s not working, he spends every minute at home. And that’s why he had to ditch their almost $90M Los Angeles house and move to Nevada, to give his family “a better life.” A better life that will allow Mark to build his own movie studio and shoe factory, apparently.

Mark Wahlberg no longer calls Hollywood home. The Uncharted star revealed he recently “moved to Nevada” in order to give his family “a better life.” Wahlberg appeared on Tuesday’s The Talk where he was asked about balancing a business empire while being a present father and husband.

“That is the biggest challenge,” he replied. “Every free moment that I have, I’m at home.”

The 51-year-old Boston native explained how he wants to build a “state-of-the-art studio” in Nevada “and make this Hollywood 2.0.” Wahlberg also said he hopes to create “a shoe factory and a factory for Municipal,” the Sport Utility Gear apparel company he co-founded.

“I want to be able to work from home. I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there,” Wahlberg continued. “So, to be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer, this made a lot more sense for us.”

“So, we came here to just kind of give ourselves a new look, a fresh start for the kids, and there’s lot of opportunity here,” Wahlberg concluded. “I’m really excited about the future.”

[From Yahoo! Entertainment]

What’s written above is basically all Mark said so it’s all I have to go off of. Which means Mark pulled an Elon Musk and ditched California looking for tax breaks. Nothing in what he said above suggests this move to Nevada provides a better life for his kids. I’m not saying it doesn’t, but his justification doesn’t offer it. There are multiple horse communities in California, there’s a boarding school in Ojai (two hours out of LA) dedicated to equestrians and rich kids. Tom Hanks’ son went there. And I think I remember seeing something about basketball here *bumps into the Lakers stadium*. Plus there are six PGA tournaments scheduled in CA on the 22-23 schedule. So I don’t know what this better life Mark is seeking is unless it has to do with politics or, as I said, taxes. Neither of which have anything to do with his kids but may explain why he’s only made a couple of movies since he moved to California. Whatever, I’ve been to Nevada enough times to know they don’t like @$$hats anymore there than they do here. But, you know, good luck, Mark. Can’t say I’m too bummed to see you go.

Mark Wahlberg watches his kids sports games from his car

Mark_W_feral

Mark Wahlberg has a new movie coming out call Joe Bell. It’s based on a true story about a dad, Wahlberg, who walks across America to raise awareness after his son took his life because he was bullied. While speaking to ET about the film, the subject turned to his kids playing sports and Wahlberg said he had to watch their games from his car. The reason, he said, was because he wants his kids to have as normal a life as possible. So, he keeps his famous face hidden and lets them have the spotlight, even though it’s hard for him not to be right there with them during their moment.

Mark Wahlberg is opening up about the reason he watches his kids’ games from the car.

While speaking to ET about his new movie, Joe Bell, the 50-year-old actor revealed that he’s trying his best to give his children a normal life. Wahlberg shares four kids — Ella, 17, Michael, 15, Brendan, 12, and Grace, 11 — with wife Rhea Durham.

“Me being in the public eye, there are pros to that, but there’s a lot of cons,” he explained. “My kids wanna have their own identity, you know? I’m not allowed to get out of the car at football practice or a game. I gotta sit in the car and watch.”

“At first I took it personally, because I wanna be there to support them, but supporting them is by making them feel comfortable in what they’re doing and them having their own identity too,” he continued. “It’s very difficult.”

[From ET]

It sounds to me like his kids kicked him off the field. Plus, some guy watching a bunch of kids playing on a field from his car is going to attract plenty of attention. Eventually someone will say, “nah, that’s just Marky Mark being all incognito and such.” I mean, I get the sentiment he’s trying to convey here and maybe folks were spending too much time trying to get him to give their script to his agent during the game, but I doubt this is how he’s letting his kids have their normal life. Especially since, as Kaiser reminded me, just a few years ago Wahlberg was telling us he’s a monster on the sidelines and his own wife won’t sit with him. So yeah, I think sitting in the car was probably less of a fatherly overture and more of a unanimous team vote to get rid of him.

Back to this movie. Who thought it was a good idea to cast Wahlberg in this role? Wahlberg told ET in his film promotion, “There’s nothing more heartbreaking than somebody who’s being bullied or picked on, or not accepted for who they are.” Oh really? I imagine Thanh Lam, whose head Wahlberg split open in an Asian hate crime, agrees. I feel so bad for the family this film is based on. They deserved better.

Roman Polanski wants his rape case dismissed so he can film a movie

wenn21192417

This must be the month in which rich, entitled celebrity dudes seek to delete their criminal pasts with a quick swipe of an eraser. We’ve only just spoken of how Mark Wahlberg seeks a pardon for his racially motivated assaults of yesteryear. Now Roman Polanski’s getting in on the act, which is convenient in a year that’s seen the Bill Cosby and Woody Allen scandals take on new life.

Polanski feels he deserves special treatment for a crime that happened decades ago. To recap, Polanski was charged in 1978 for raping Samantha Geimer. He knew she was underage. He drugged her. He did terrible things to her. Then he was surprised to be convicted. He struck a plea deal to accept guilt (for one of five charges). Before sentencing, Polanski hopped on a plane to France. In 2010, the US almost pulled him back to the States, but the Swiss refused to extradite him.

Polanski’s been living the high life, but he’s very downtrodden. Poor thing. His life won’t be complete until he films a movie in Poland, and he wants the US to close his case so he can do so without fear of extradition:

Alan M. Dershowitz is seeking to lead what could be the final effort to end the legal case against the film director Roman Polanski, who fled the United States before final sentencing on a statutory rape charge in 1978. In connection with a Los Angeles County Superior Court filing on Monday, Mr. Dershowitz is asking permission to represent Mr. Polanski in California.

The filing charged prosecutors with providing false information to support a recent attempt to have Mr. Polanski extradited from Poland. It also demanded a hearing aimed at closing his case, based partly on fresh testimony that a Superior Court judge, in 2009, had unethically prejudged issues related to Mr. Polanski’s prosecution, and had a secret plan to jail him at least briefly, even while limiting his actual sentence to time served.

In October, the authorities in Poland questioned Mr. Polanski, who had been living in France, but declined to detain him following a request from the United States for his extradition when he was photographed at the opening of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. In 2010, Swiss officials ultimately ruled against extradition after detaining Mr. Polanski for more than nine months on a similar request.

The request by Mr. Dershowitz to represent Mr. Polanski opened what promises to be a broad legal and public-relations effort to lift the threat of extradition and jail time from Mr. Polanski, now 81. He was first charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, who has since identified herself as Samantha Geimer, in 1977.

Mr. Polanski was imprisoned for psychiatric evaluation under a plea agreement, but he fled before sentencing when he learned that Judge Laurence J. Rittenband, now dead, intended to impose additional jail time. He and his lawyers have since argued that Los Angeles prosecutors and judges repeatedly violated his rights, and that his sentence has been fully served. But officials have insisted that he must return before those claims can be heard.

Mr. Polanski, a Holocaust survivor who was born in Poland, has said he would return there to shoot a film about an Alsatian Jew, Alfred Dreyfus, who in the late 19th century was accused of passing military secrets to Germany. The Dreyfus case, which ended in his exoneration, raised debate about anti-Semitism and prosecutorial misconduct.

But to shoot in Poland, Mr. Polanski and his backers have said, would require assurance by the Polish authorities that he would not be subject to extradition.

[From Hollywood Reporter]

There’s a bunch of blah-blah legal talk in the filing, which implies how the original judge was considering reducing Polanski’s sentence to “time served,” but that didn’t happen. Why? Because Polanski skipped out on his punishment. So the original penalty and sentence still applies.

Dershowitz argues that Polanski was “falsely characterized” as a “continuing flight risk,” which … I don’t see what’s so false about that characterization. Polanski got on a plane and left the country. It’s really that simple. He didn’t feel like serving whatever sentence the judge handed out. He thought he did nothing wrong. He thought he was above the law. But he wants to make a little movie, so we should stop bringing the man down? Bitch, please.
