O.J. Simpson

O.J. Simpson passed away at the age of 76 following a cancer battle

OJ Simpson has passed away. He was 76 years old and he had been battling cancer for several years. All too often, OJ Simpson was used as a punchline, when really, he was at the center of one of the most despicable moments in history of American criminal law: his acquittal in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Then in 2008, he was convicted of completely separate crimes related to armed robbery. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison and he was paroled in 2017.

O.J. Simpson, arguably one of the most controversial figures in modern American history, has died at the age of 76. According to a statement from his family on X (formerly Twitter,) the Hall of Fame football player, legendary broadcaster, self-deprecating actor, convicted felon, and accused — but ultimately, acquitted — murderer died at 76 years old on April 10.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” the post on Simpson’s account reads.

Once a celebrated personality, heralded for his record-breaking contributions to college and professional football, Simpson’s triumphs and exploits on the gridiron have long been overshadowed by his 1994 arrest for the slashing murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

Simpson was detained on June 17, 1994, following a prolonged, low-speed police chase that was carried live on television stations all around the world. Crowds formed over highway overpasses to get a glimpse of Simpson, who was infamously chased in a white Ford Bronco being driven by his friend and former teammate Al Cowlings.

Simpson was tried for the murders over 11 months in what many of the legal experts of the time dubbed “The Trial of the Century.” His legal team boasted powerhouse attorneys Robert Shapiro and the late Johnnie Cochran, Robert Kardashian, and F. Lee Bailey. On Oct. 3, 1995, jurors returned “not guilty” verdicts on both counts of murder. It is estimated that 100 million people in the United States alone tuned in to either watch or listen to the stunning verdict.

“Self-deprecating actor” – let’s not. It’s not all that complicated. I feel sorry for his kids and that’s about it. I hope Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman’s families are doing well and they’re in my thoughts today.

Hollywood Lawyers Spill The Secrets On Their ‘Egotistical, Narcissistic, Spoiled’ Celebrity Clients!

Hollywood Lawyers Tell All! Tinseltown's Top Attorneys Spill The Beans On Their Bratty Clients 2013

Every time I watched Lindsay Lohan in court with her former lawyer Shawn Holley, I also felt the utmost pity for Holley. Not only did she have to put up with Lohan’s shenanigans, but she wasn’t even getting paid (or so the rumor goes about Lohan owing her a ton in legal fees). Well, karma is a bitch and Lilo has ended up with that little troll of a lawyer, the goofy Mark Heller. So there’s that.

We came upon some juicy, fun gossip here. So how would you like to hear Hollywood lawyers dishing on their nasty celebrity clients? Fun right? Well Radar was able to get some of Tinsletown’s celebrity attorneys to talk about what kind of nightmares some of their clients can be. Lawyers like Thomas Mesereau, Shawn Holley, and Blair Berk, who have been known to represent stars such as Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, and Halle Berry.

So let’s get right into it.

While attending an event called Celebrity Behind Bars: When Celebrity Clients Are Charged With Crimes, which was hosted by the Beverly Hills Bar Association earlier this week, Mesereau revealed, “You’re basically dealing with a spoiled brat.”

“You’re dealing with someone who is very narcissistic, egotistical and used to going through people, and it creates a real challenge.”

Radar points out that Mesereau, who once successfully defended Michael Jackson during his 2005 child molestation trial, says (like we didn’t already know) that celebrities are typically surrounded by ‘yes’ men and women.

Says Mesereau, “Usually these celebrities are surrounded by enablers– people who are intent and skilled at preserving their position, whatever it is.”

Shawn Holley, who we’re used to hearing has worked with Lohan, has also worked with O.J. Simpson (she was part of his original defense team in Nicole Brown Simpson’s murder trial). Holley says that she usually has no issues with cameras in the courtrooms, but with Lohan, there was one problem she had (other than Lohan, heh).

Holley said this regarding one of Lindsay’s 2010 courtroom appearances, “What happened was [Lindsay] had ‘f**k you’ [written] on her nail.”

“I sat next to her all day. I didn’t see it, the judge didn’t see, the prosecutor didn’t see it. It was really impossible to see it.”

What did see it was the video camera. I totally remember that! But Holley says it was the cameraman’s fault and said for doing so, he was “extremely irresponsible.”

Blair Berk, who worked with Ozzy Osbourne when Ozzy was accused of basically driving a teen to suicide because of his lyrics back in the 80s, and also Halle Berry, who was accused of a hit and run in 2000, says there’s one thing she won’t do, no matter how famous and powerful her client is.

“I don’t do entourage,” she said adding, “This is a very scary time. I don’t care how famous you are or how minor the criminal defense.”

“It’s a very scary situation when your liberty is at stake…”

Okay, yeah sure I get what Berk is saying, but really Holley? I’m surprised with all that she’s gone through with Lohan and what a pain in the ass she was as a client, she’s still making excuses for her. Amazing.

In the year 1994…

…the average cost of a new house was $119,000

…a dozen eggs were 86¢

…Tonya Harding’s national Figure Skating championship title is revoked after being involved in the Nancy Kerrigan attack

…the MLB  begins it’s 232 day strike

…Lisa Marie Presley married Michael Jackson

What an exciting year it was. Let’s take a look at some fun photos of celebrities in 1994 and feel free to poke fun at them!

Kirstie Alley, Celebrities in 1994

Kirstie Alley: Everyone had a hairstyle similar to this one at some point in the mid 1990s, thanks to Jennifer Aniston. You notice Kirstie eyebrows are quite as high as they used to be.

Johnny Depp Kate Moss, Celebrities in 1994

Johnny Depp and Kate Moss: Young, free and wild. Johnny Depp was a bad boy and right up supermodel Kate Moss’ alley. After the couple split Kate had a hard time bouncing back. “There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!”

1994poison

Bret Michaels and Pamela Anderson: Yes, they were totally doing it.

1994Pitt

Brad Pitt: Always love throwing Brad into the retro posts. He would begin dating Gwyneth Paltrow this year and their relationship would continue for three years. Lucky bitch.

1994Trump

Ivana and Eric Trump: Eric Trump had a mullet and was still kinda creepy looking.

1994BillboardAwards

Robert Downey Jr. & Sheryl Crow: Sheryl’ single All I Wanna Do was a smash hit, and Robert’s career was somewhat at a lull, two years after his success with Chaplin.

1994BFFS

Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster: See? They were BFFs even back then!

1994VMAs

John F. Kennedy Jr.: We’ll never forget the day we lost this handsome, debonair man. This is John on his way to the 1994 MTV VMAs. We miss him.

1994wood

Elijah Woods: Look at this little dude! What a babe!

1994Block

Jennifer Lopez: Jenny from the Block is long gone, folks. This was her, and she was a sweetheart, not the untouchable diva she is nowadays.
