Very, very early Sunday morning, Chris Brown and his bodyguard beat the hell out of at least one dude in Washington, DC. The dude went to the hospital and Chris and his bodyguard were arrested for felony assault. They stayed in jail throughout Sunday, Sunday night and most of the day Monday until the judge finally had a hearing for them. The judge downgraded their changes to misdemeanors, which is unfortunate. Even more unfortunate? Chris was released without bail and it’s basically like he’s going to get a minor slap on the wrist for beating down some dude (not to mention the homophobic comments he made just before the beatdown began).
So, everything was coming up Breezy once again. Breezy’s fan-girls were already preparing to campaign on Breezy’s behalf – “He’s just misunderstood! He’s so sensitive! Other dudes are violent too!” – and the next legal hurdle for Chris would be his probation hearing in California on Nov. 20. And most of us just thought, “Eh, it’s California. Nothing will happen.” But I guess Chris was worried about it. Because Chris just went into REHAB.
Chris Brown is trying to get back on the straight and narrow. One day after his release from jail on misdemeanor assault charges, the “Don’t Judge Me” singer, 24, has decided to voluntarily check himself into rehab to deal with some personal issues, his rep says in a statement to Us Weekly.
“Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility,” the statement reads. “His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.”
The news comes at a crucial time for the controversial star, who was released from jail on Monday, Oct. 28, following his arrest for an alleged assault in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. According to a police report, Brown and his bodyguard were involved in an altercation with another man outside the W Hotel after the man tried to join a picture with the Grammy-winning singer. The report claims that Brown made a homophobic remark to the alleged victim — “I’m not down with that gay s–t” — before reportedly punching him in the face.
The hip hop star — who is still on probation for his 2009 attack of then-girlfriend Rihanna — was initially charged with felony assault in connection with the incident. Prosecutors reduced the charge to a misdemeanor on Monday; he was released without bail after 36 hours in jail.
Brown has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the man he is accused of assaulting. He and his bodyguard are scheduled to return to court on Nov. 24.

Part of me thinks this will be a good thing for Chris in general, because I do believe he’s got some drug and alcohol issues. Unfortunately, though, I don’t really think that dealing with his alcohol and drug abuse is going to make him any less of a violent predator with a hair-trigger temper. This is a cop-out: “His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.” It’s mushy – if he wants to blame his violence on drugs and alcohol, then that’s something that should be brought up at his probation hearing.
This is Chris’s basic argument: “It’s not my fault I’m so violent, it’s the drugs and the alcohol, but you can’t bring up the drugs and alcohol because it might negatively affect my probation, the rehab is supposed to make me look sympathetic and wounded and if you don’t see me as a victim, I’ll punch your face in.”
Update: Oh, I guess the rehab is for his “anger management” issues. Again, I don’t consider that “rehab”.
