I’ve been re-reading The Diana Chronicles, our Celebitchy Book Club selection this month, for about a week. It’s a reminder of how everything can go wrong in a royal marriage, and how – I’m saying this with all seriousness – we’re sort of lucky that Prince William and Duchess Kate do seem to have such a strong working relationship. By that I mean that Will & Kate seem to know each other very well, there’s very little drama between them and neither of them is out to malign the other publicly or privately. Anyway, I just thought I’d say something nice about Will & Kate. Today is their third wedding anniversary. So how will they celebrate?
THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be enjoying some well-earned down time today as they celebrate their third wedding anniversary. A spokesman has said the family will be celebrating the event privately as they recover from their hectic 19-day tour of Australia and New Zealand. This will mark the royal couple’s first anniversary with their nine-month-old son Prince George.
Since then the royal couple has experienced several milestones, including the birth of their first son on July 22 last year and Prince William’s career change as he left his job in the military to enroll in an agricultural management course at Cambridge University. The Duke of Cambridge has since been taking on more royal engagements and helping out with parenting duties.
Although couples traditionally exchange gifts of leather for their third wedding anniversary, the Duchess has recently been spotted sporting several new pieces of jewelry, apparently from her husband. In recent months she has acquired a £3,600 Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, which is embedded with a sapphire to match her engagement ring, and a diamond eternity band, which she wears on her wedding finger.

It would not surprise me in the least if they were spending their anniversary at Chateau Middleton in Bucklebury, or if the Middletons were financing a luxury vacation for Will and Kate. But we’ll probably find out about it after the fact. As for the tradition of giving “leather” for the third anniversary…? Oh, I know what I want! I want a really nice leather purse or a great piece of leather luggage.
Meanwhile, Princes William and Harry are about to travel together once again when they attend a wedding in Memphis, Tennessee this weekend. They friend Guy Pelly is marrying Lizzy Wilson in Memphis. It will be a weekend-long affair and Will and Harry will stay for two nights, I guess. Kate and George are not joining them. The Mirror’s source claims: “If all three senior royals had gone it would have required a huge security detail flying to Memphis with them. After Australia, Kate’s happy to leave William and Harry to it and spend some time at home with George. She appreciates the media storm her attendance would cause. She’s also keen to avoid overshadowing Guy and Lizzy’s big day. William and Harry also don’t want the thing to turn into a circus.” Sure. Okay.
Meanwhile, People Mag just published a fascinating story about how Kate is “ready” for a surge in royal duties. Of course, we’ve heard this before – right after she gave birth, royal courtiers claimed that Kate wanted to hit the ground running. Not so much. What’s even more interesting to me is that it seems like the royal aides have literally no idea what William is doing. He’s still on his “gap year” thing and he’s made no mention of what he plans to do beyond it.
