Duchess Kate repeats a red Catherine Walker ensemble: fab or drab?

RED HEELS!!!!!!

Duchess Kate is wearing red heels! No wedges of doom. No nude pumps. No beige stilettos. She’s wearing honest-to-God red heels! And they’re good, aren’t they? I also have to say, I’ve always had a great deal of affection for Kate in red. She wears a lot of blue, probably because she A) thinks blue is her signature color and B) wants everything to match Big Blue, her sapphire engagement ring. But red looks amazing on her and she wears it too infrequently.

These photos are from yesterday’s Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle, William and Kate’s fourth public outing in as many days. Kate’s Catherine Walker dress and coat were repeats, but I actually didn’t remember them. She wore this ensemble for the first time in 2011, during her first royal tour to Canada. She actually styled it differently this time too – she wore her hair back and she wore a rather fancy hat. She accessorized with the same diamond drop earrings that she wore for her wedding (purchased as a gift by her parents), a silver pendant (which she has been wearing a lot lately) and an Art Deco-ish bracelet, which we’ve seen before. I’m totally fine with the whole look. And I’ll say again: she should seriously consider adding more red pieces to her wardrobe. And just say no to nude heels!

Meanwhile, Vanity Fair reports that William and Kate will be stopping by the Royal Ascot this week “much to the Queen’s delight.”

After a spectacular turn out for the Queen’s 90th birthday over the weekend, the royals will be out in full force again this week to celebrate Royal Ascot. Royal Watch has learned that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will make their debut at the annual race meet/high-society outing in Berkshire, much to the Queen’s delight. In the past, William and Kate have always turned down offers to join the Queen and her guests in the Royal Enclosure, but this year they are turning out as a birthday surprise for the Queen, who has attended every Royal Meeting at the Ascot during her reign.

“They know how much Ascot means to the Queen and they will be there for one day this week,” says a source about the event, which commences Tuesday. “They will enjoy an afternoon in the royal box with Her Majesty.”

What’s interesting to me is that the Queen has requested their presence apparently multiple times over the past five years and they were always too “busy,” I suppose? I always imagined that when the Queen asks you to go somewhere, it’s not a request, it’s an order. However will William and Kate recuperate from this harried work schedule? I mean, they’ll be doing five events in one week! That’s a lot of keen-ness.

Amal Clooney’s red-suited press conference style: vampy or fine?

As we discussed yesterday, Amal Clooney was part of the legal team that got the former president of the Maldives out of jail. Amal wore a nonsensical coat – with lobster, hand and cat buttons/brooches – when she and the team went to 10 Downing Street over the weekend. Then on Monday, Amal and the team held a press conference at Amal’s law firm in London. For the press conference, Amal wore this red suit. And people are still talking about it.

No one has the ID on this suit, which makes me wonder if this is something older that she’s had in her closet for years. I still think the suit is pretty good, minus the velvet trimming, which just makes it seem more like a Christmas-only suit rather than something appropriate for business meetings. I saw some criticism of the color, like Amal wanted to ensure that she stood out, that she was the diva dressed in blood red. I don’t know… I think red is her color and I think it’s fine for women to wear red to meetings, conferences, etc. Is it such a tragedy to stand out?

That being said, I do think Amal’s styling was too “vampy” for the occasion. She paired her red suit with big curls, epic Salvatore Ferragamo stilettos, a Dolce & Gabbana tote and an inky black manicure. The whole look ended up being very… attention-grabbing. Oh, and she’s still wearing her giant engagement ring. And she’s still touching her hair a lot.

Several weeks ago, I suggested that Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift might be on track to an engagement. Some of you disagreed! Some of you thought that Tay-Tay and Calvin are already on the outs, even though they really did spend her 25th birthday together at a big industry party in LA. And now this: Tay-Tay and Calvin are spending Christmas together. In Colorado. With HER family.

Taylor happily posted several photos from her Colorado vacation (they’re in Vail). The pics feature snowmen, Calvin and Taylor’s brother Austin. Entertainment Tonight says that Calvin and the Swifts plan on spending the whole holiday there. Can we talk about an engagement now? Please? I mean, I’ve said all along that this will end in tears and blind-item songs. But Calvin has stuck with it, perhaps because he’s as much of a gossip-y drama queen as Taylor. He’s proven that he can be her knight-in-shining tweeter and he’s not ashamed of being seen with her in public. I for one am hoping that Taylor gets an engagement ring on Christmas. Because that way, when it ends, it will be mega-epic. It will fuel three double-albums worth of blind item songs. It will be glorious.

One more thing: Taylor is going to drop her new music video for “Out of the Woods” on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. So… I mean, just prepare yourself for that.

File this under “Elizabeth Olsen is Ice Cold.” Last year, Elizabeth Olsen and Boyd Holbrook were happily engaged. They were both up-and-coming actors with successful careers. Then, out of nowhere, their engagement was off. A few months later, the rumors about Olsen and Tom Hiddleston started heating up, and some of us believe that Tom and Elizabeth started seeing each other while they were filming I Saw the Light. Well, I’m not sure about the timeline a year ago, but Boyd covers the new issue of Man of the World and he says flat-out that Olsen dumped him “on the same day my best friend died.”

Radar: Halle Berry & Olivier Martinez’s divorce filing could come ‘any day now’

Here are some photos of Halle Berry outside of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night. You know when this kind of ensemble was popular? In the ‘90s. So many women and girls did the long-sleeved sheer top with a black bra. She really does look like she stepped out of the ‘90s, but I guess that’s a good thing because she really is sort of ageless. Oh, and her body is crazy.

Speaking of crazy, we’re still on Ring Watch with Halle. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t give a crap about Ring Watch (Ring Watch gets exploited by people like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck), but Halle’s ring situation has been so peculiar that it ends up being notable. Following widespread tabloid reports that Halle’s marriage to Olivier Martinez had fallen apart, TMZ got a tip that Halle has been stepping out without her ugly emerald engagement ring because she “lost” the ring months ago. The explanation was basically “everything is fine, she’s still wearing her wedding band.” Except she hasn’t even bothered wearing her wedding band lately. In these photos, Halle is wearing gold bands on her wedding ring finger but I don’t think any of those bands are her wedding band. In any case, Radar has some additional details:

Is Halle Berry lying about her missing engagement ring? With rumors swirling that divorce from husband Olivier Martinez is imminent for the 49-year-old, she potential fib is certainly something worth hiding. In January 2014, the actress claimed that her emerald ring was lost or stolen during the Acapulco Film Festival.

But six months later, Berry was spotted wearing the very same ring! She donned the enviable jewelry while visiting a poor Nicaraguan village as part of a Michael Kors’ hunger charity.

As Radar previously reported, sources say the Oscar winner could file for divorce any day now.

“The couple hasn’t lived under the same roof in a very long time,” an insider exclusively told Radar. “Olivier spends much of his free time in France, and hates living in Los Angeles.”

Another source told Radar that the explosive filing may come as the result of Martinez’s hot temper.

Sure. I believe that. I believe that Halle is lying about losing her ring in January 2014. Which isn’t to say that she didn’t actually lose it at some other time, perhaps by throwing it at Olivier for being a douche or something. In any case… yeah, what do you think? Divorce announcement by the end of the year?

This is a surprise! Cameron Diaz and Benji started dating 8 months ago. Things moved fast, and they announced their engagement last month. That was unexpected, but hey. Good for them. I assumed they’d stay engaged for several months before tying the knot. Nope. Cami and Benji wasted no time at all and got married last night. They did the deed in front of friends and family at Cameron’s home. Outlets were tipped off yesterday, but the official word was that Cameron was pretending to throw a pre-Globes party at her house. Why would she do that? She’s not up for any awards. The paparazzi flew helicopters over her home and saw tents in the backyard, and the ruse was up. Us Weekly (which nabs all the Diaz-Madden scoops) has the details:

The Sweetest Thing! After years of claiming she wasn’t necessarily the marrying type, Cameron Diaz tied the knot with Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden on Monday, Jan. 5.

The pair said their vows at the Annie star’s Beverly Hills pad in front of close friends and family on Monday evening, including guests Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Samantha Ronson and Robin Antin. Benji’s nephew, Joel Madden and Nicole Richie’s son, Sparrow served as the ring bearer. Joining Diaz as her bridesmaids were her BFFs Richie, Drew Barrymore, her sister Chimene and assistant Jesse Lutz. The event was orchestrated by wedding planners Yifat Oren and Stefanie Cove and featured flowers from The Velvet Garden – all companies used by Diaz’s longtime pal and Charlie’s Angels costar Barrymore in her June 2012 wedding to Will Kopelman.

Before saying “I do,” the couple celebrated with a rehearsal dinner catered by Lucques at the star’s Beverly Hills pad on Sunday, Jan. 4.

People confirmed the ceremony with a statement from one of Cameron’s friends: “Getting married is the next step when you are totally in love and comfortable with someone. Cameron has found true happiness.” Wow. Does this say more about Benji being a nice guy or about all of Cameron’s ex-boyfriends? Both. She spent decades dating an army of douchebags. When Cam found a guy who treated her well, she tied it down fast. A few months ago, we all chuckled when People hinted at wedding bells for these two, but those reports were true.

I can’t help but wonder if Cameron was really serious about not believing in monogamy and not wanting marriage all along. Perhaps she truly believed those things until Benji came along. These two seemed like such an unlikely couple from the beginning, but it all worked out. Congrats to Cameron and Benji!
