Elizabeth Olsen let her sisters dress her up like a goth ghost for the CFDAs

The CFDAs were held last night in New York. I generally find the CFDAs kind of boring, fashion-wise. It’s not the Met Gala and it’s not the Oscars. Some ladies try to do something different, but most people just look vaguely nice and not particularly noteworthy. Take the Olsen sisters – we’ve seen Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen look like Victorian ghosts a million times before. The only difference is that at the CFDAs, they dressed their little sister Elizabeth in The Row and now she looks like a Victorian ghost now too.

More photos… Stephanie Sokolinski (Soko!!) looking tired in Gucci. It really is about styling with this woman, and I really, really want to take away her pink-brown eye makeup. The dress is fine (and it suits her) but I think she would look better with different hair and makeup.

Adriana Lima in Marc Jacobs. I like that she wore pants. This outfit is nice.

Amal Clooney’s red-suited press conference style: vampy or fine?

As we discussed yesterday, Amal Clooney was part of the legal team that got the former president of the Maldives out of jail. Amal wore a nonsensical coat – with lobster, hand and cat buttons/brooches – when she and the team went to 10 Downing Street over the weekend. Then on Monday, Amal and the team held a press conference at Amal’s law firm in London. For the press conference, Amal wore this red suit. And people are still talking about it.

No one has the ID on this suit, which makes me wonder if this is something older that she’s had in her closet for years. I still think the suit is pretty good, minus the velvet trimming, which just makes it seem more like a Christmas-only suit rather than something appropriate for business meetings. I saw some criticism of the color, like Amal wanted to ensure that she stood out, that she was the diva dressed in blood red. I don’t know… I think red is her color and I think it’s fine for women to wear red to meetings, conferences, etc. Is it such a tragedy to stand out?

That being said, I do think Amal’s styling was too “vampy” for the occasion. She paired her red suit with big curls, epic Salvatore Ferragamo stilettos, a Dolce & Gabbana tote and an inky black manicure. The whole look ended up being very… attention-grabbing. Oh, and she’s still wearing her giant engagement ring. And she’s still touching her hair a lot.

DM: The Queen ‘quietly advised’ Duchess Kate to get a more ‘appropriate’ hairstyle

LOL, I chuckled at Kate “not wanting to admit defeat quickly.” Is that how she sees it? Being advised by the Queen and being told to make changes is “admitting defeat.” Kate waged a war to wear miniskirts and have flyaway hair and she lost. Also: the Queen reads our comment section, I think. How many years have we been giving Kate free styling advice? We’ve said for years that she needs to stop wearing her hair so long. We’ve said that she needs to stop with the sausage curls (and she has severely cut back on the sausage curls, so yay us). We’ve said she needs to wear her hair back more often. We’ve said she needs to make an effort to look more professional. And the Queen was listening and agreeing with us. The Queen was also credited (back in 2014) with finally ordering Kate to stop with the “Marilyn Moments,” short skirts and cheap jewelry.

Amal Clooney finally wears jeans that fit, visits George Clooney’s film set

Here are some photos of Amal Clooney visiting the New York set of Money Monster, George Clooney’s new film. He’s being directed by Jodie Foster, and the film also stars Jack O’Connell and Julia Roberts. This is the second high-profile set visit from Amal that we’ve seen. She seems to choose jeans for her set visits, and this time it was a pair of skinny Capri jeans. Her legs are so slender! I swear, she’s lost weight since meeting and marrying George. I don’t like her pants that much, but the gauzy, floral blouse is sort of cute. I think Amal went overboard with the big, chunky earrings though. Girl, you need to edit!

I wish we had all of the photos of Amal’s papportunities in New York, because at this point, it really is a daily fashion show with NO repeat looks. On Friday, she stepped out in some flared Giambattista pants – go here to see. She really does love designer clothes, and my guess is that she’s getting a lot of this stuff at a steep discount or flat-out for free.

As People Magazine’s source claimed last week, Amal is not pregnant. Basically, that’s what the source said, so don’t Bump Watch her because of the floaty blouse. People’s source said Amal is “very much in love and extremely busy” and “not thinking about babies” right now. Which is fine. I have to admit, George and Amal look genuinely into each other in these photos. Like, he can’t take his eyes off her. And she’s chatting with his coworkers and they just seem very connected. Maybe it will work out. Maybe.

Right now, Amal and George are still selling us a certain image. That image? The New Camelot. I think. Remember how I pointed out the similarities – both obvious and forced – between Amal and Carolyn Bessette? I wrote that last June, and my witch-like premonition has come true, to an overwhelming degree. Amal has been styling herself like a vintage Kennedy woman, and Elle Magazine is currently running a piece called “Is Amal Clooney New York’s New Carolyn Bessette?” Go here to see Elle’s piece, complete with side-by-side comparison photos of Carolyn and Amal. And there you go. Not only was I prescient about the Carolyn Bessette thing, but Amal is following through like a champ.

Last night was the big Time 100 gala, in which people who made Time’s Most Influential People list mingled with people who didn’t. Uninfluential peasants! It was too much to hope that Benedict Cumberbatch would show up, I suppose. Instead, I guess the highlight of the evening was Carrie Underwood (she made the list) and her husband Mike Fisher. Carrie wore this antebellum-type gown by Claire Pettibone. I’m not into it. Her styling is so dated too. Also: there are rumors going around that she’s pregnant. She hasn’t confirmed anything that I’ve seen.

Christy Turlington Burns and Ed Burns. Look at the simplicity of her gown – and she just looks so classic and beautiful. She’s ageless. The dress… well, it’s a little bit weird. Is the belt a piece of string?!

Duchess Kate repeats a Luisa Spagnoli suit from 2011, plays cricket in heels

Here are some photos of Duchess Kate and Prince William in Christchurch, New Zealand today (time difference… most of these photos came out yesterday in Europe and America). Christchurch was left devastated by an earthquake in 2011 and Kate and Will visited the CTV Memorial Park, visiting with the families who lost people. Then it was onto a cricket world cup event where Kate and William gamely tried to play. Kate didn’t even take off her three-inch heels, which is crazy.

Kate repeated a look for this day of activity – this is the Luisa Spagnoli suit she wore in February of 2011, when she and William did one of their first “engaged” appearances at St. Andrew’s, their alma mater. In 2011, she wore the suit with a black turtleneck and black boots. I have to say, I like this styling version, with no t-neck or boots. That being said, is it like “against the rules” for Kate to slip off her heels to play cricket?

They also met with a Maori chief who apparently ordered them to “procreate” and “May you do what princes and princesses have always done and increase your family.” I’m starting to feel sort of bad for Will and Kate on that count – I mean, she JUST had a baby nine months ago and people are already trying to pressure them into having another one. Let them procreate in their own time, people!
