Henry Cavill: ‘When I was 19, I was going out with a 32-year-old’

Last fall, we learned that Henry Cavill, 32, had started dating a university freshman named Tara King. Tara is 19 years old. According to the Daily Mail, they’re still together and he’s even taken her home to meet his family. She’s traveled with him several times, when her school schedule permits, and they really aren’t hiding their relationship at all. Henry has a new interview in Elle Magazine (the issue with Brie Larson as cover girl) and when he’s asked specifically about dating a 19-year-old, his answers are… interesting. I guess. Some highlights from the interview:

Whether he ever had celebrity crushes when he was a kid: “I didn’t really, no. I didn’t have posters up. I still don’t have any crushes on actresses or models. It’s always been one of those things with girlfriends. They say, “Who’s on your list?” What do you call it, the Get Out of Jail Free card? [he’s told it’s a “hall pass”] Every single girlfriend has asked. I say I don’t have a list and they go, “Okay, well I’ve got this person….” And I go, “Stop right there. I don’t need to know who you really want to have sex with. I’m probably going to work with that person.” I just explained this to my girlfriend. She said, “That’s a fair point.”

Whether he’s comfortable being naked on screen:
“Are you kidding me? I had to start telling the producers, “Stop making me take my clothes off.” One year they said, “For the publicity shot, we’re going to have you shirtless holding a horse.” I said, “Why the f–k am I shirtless? My character has changed. He’s a morose, depressed dude.” They’re like, “Yeah… but people love it.”

Whether he feels objectified: “I don’t consider it being objectified. If people like to see me with my shirt off, it’s enormously flattering. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to take my shirt off all the time.”

Whether he can tell the difference between girls who want him or the ones who want Superman: “One, you never know. Two, if you’re just looking for a shag, does it really matter? And three, are they really different things? I think I have some similar traits or ideology to the character.”

What he talks about with his 19-year-old girlfriend: “Everything. People say, “Age is just a number.” A lot of times it’s not just a number. It’s actually a real and true sign of someone’s maturity. But in this case, she’s fantastic.”

The reaction to their age difference: “It’s a natural reaction. But when I was 19, I was going out with a 32-year-old.”

What he learned from dating an older woman: “Things that I can’t mention in an article.”

When he feels intimidated by a woman: “If someone’s trying to intimidate me, male or female, I don’t respect them enough to be intimidated. But when I first met my girlfriend, I was super intimidated. I wanted to impress her. I was thinking, Don’t mess this up, man. You’ve gotta play your cards exactly right… Everyone doubts themselves. It’s just a matter of admitting it or not.”

Amal Clooney finally wears jeans that fit, visits George Clooney’s film set

Here are some photos of Amal Clooney visiting the New York set of Money Monster, George Clooney’s new film. He’s being directed by Jodie Foster, and the film also stars Jack O’Connell and Julia Roberts. This is the second high-profile set visit from Amal that we’ve seen. She seems to choose jeans for her set visits, and this time it was a pair of skinny Capri jeans. Her legs are so slender! I swear, she’s lost weight since meeting and marrying George. I don’t like her pants that much, but the gauzy, floral blouse is sort of cute. I think Amal went overboard with the big, chunky earrings though. Girl, you need to edit!

I wish we had all of the photos of Amal’s papportunities in New York, because at this point, it really is a daily fashion show with NO repeat looks. On Friday, she stepped out in some flared Giambattista pants – go here to see. She really does love designer clothes, and my guess is that she’s getting a lot of this stuff at a steep discount or flat-out for free.

As People Magazine’s source claimed last week, Amal is not pregnant. Basically, that’s what the source said, so don’t Bump Watch her because of the floaty blouse. People’s source said Amal is “very much in love and extremely busy” and “not thinking about babies” right now. Which is fine. I have to admit, George and Amal look genuinely into each other in these photos. Like, he can’t take his eyes off her. And she’s chatting with his coworkers and they just seem very connected. Maybe it will work out. Maybe.

Right now, Amal and George are still selling us a certain image. That image? The New Camelot. I think. Remember how I pointed out the similarities – both obvious and forced – between Amal and Carolyn Bessette? I wrote that last June, and my witch-like premonition has come true, to an overwhelming degree. Amal has been styling herself like a vintage Kennedy woman, and Elle Magazine is currently running a piece called “Is Amal Clooney New York’s New Carolyn Bessette?” Go here to see Elle’s piece, complete with side-by-side comparison photos of Carolyn and Amal. And there you go. Not only was I prescient about the Carolyn Bessette thing, but Amal is following through like a champ.

Scarlett Johansson loves Elizabeth Warren, baths, key lime pie & acupuncture

wenn21940434

Here are some photos of Scarlett Johansson out and about last night for the Friends Of Rockaway 2nd annual Hurricane Sandy fundraiser at Hudson Terrace. This is a rare outing – she’s been very quiet for months now. Part of it was that she just wanted some peace and time off while she was in the last months of her pregnancy, then she wanted to spend time with her newborn daughter Rose Dorothy without any interference. I like that about Scarlett – she really is able to disappear when she wants to. I think she looks good here, although I don’t like her hair.

Anyway, there were a few pieces of ScarJo news this week! TMZ reported that Scarlett was in LA last weekend, looking at some real estate. Scarlett has been living in NYC for years now, although she obviously travels a lot for work. But sources told TMZ that Scarlett is looking to buy a place in LA again, after selling the home she shared with Ryan Reynolds several years ago. She looked at a $2.9 Los Feliz place but she didn’t like it, so she’s still shopping around. I’m sort of surprised that she’s not buying a place in Paris? I thought that was the idea of getting with Romain Dauriac? They would live in Paris and New York and it would be very intellectual and amazing. Hm. Meanwhile, Scarlett did a “20 Questions with…” feature with Elle Magazine.

1. Who is on the guest list for your ideal dinner party? Bette Davis, David Bowie, and Bono.
2. What brings you the greatest joy? My family. And Key lime pie.
3. What item in your closet do you wear the most? Black high-waisted jeans.
4. What movie had the greatest ending? Citizen Kane.
5. What song instantly puts you in a good mood? “Jump Around” by House of Pain. (I’m a kid from the ’90s.)
6. What should every woman try at least once in her life? Acupuncture.
7. What is your fantasy itinerary? A three-month tour of India.
8. What quote do you live by? “Live! Life’s a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!” —Auntie Mame
9. What is the best gift you’ve ever received? Woody Allen’s glasses.
10. What is on your perennial to-do list? Moving.
11. What is your greatest indulgence? Taking a long bath followed by a long nap.
12. What can you not miss on TV? I Love Lucy reruns or House Hunters International.
13. What is on your nightstand? Moisturizers, a glass of water, my phone, a La Leche League book, and a limited-edition collector’s edition of Dolce & Gabbana The One fragrance.
14. What makes you cry? Thoughtfulness and my sister’s sentimentality.
15. What makes you laugh? My boyfriend [Romain Dauriac] and Louis CK.
16. Who are your heroes? Volunteer workers and Elizabeth Warren.
17. What is your go-to karaoke song? “New York State of Mind.”
18. What are your pet peeves? Nail biting, knuckle cracking.
19. How did you make your first dollar? Selling tickets to my family for a “show”—aka me performing in my bedroom.
20. What is one thing you wish you had known when you were younger? To invest in Apple.

[From Marie Claire]

Damn, ScarJo and I are very similar. Cracked knuckles = wince. Louis CK makes me laugh. I too get stuck on House Hunters International marathons. I too love Elizabeth Warren. And I keep a glass of a water and some face cream on my bedside table. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, SCARJO. No, but really… who wants to eat dinner with Bono? Nope. And did Woody Allen give her his glasses?!

Lily Allen: Of course I’d rather look like Kate Moss than look like myself | lily allen

On the pressure of looking a certain way:

Of course I’d rather look like Kate Moss than look like myself. I wish I didn’t feel like that and I think the reason we feel like that is because of the imagery we’re fed all the time.Women are still expected, in some weird way, to kind of sit there and look pretty, and not talk.

‘So often, when women say things that are outspoken, or  as I call it just saying things, people jump on that and try to make us look stupid for having an opinion. That doesn’t happen with men. Come on, we’ve done feminism. People are aware of it. Can it just happen now?’

… says Lily in Elle Magazine.
