Angelina Jolie will be a visiting professor at the London School of Economics

jolie1

Angelina Jolie’s film career has been sidelined largely by her own choice for a while now, especially in the past year. After the terrible reviews of By the Sea, Angelina has spent months focusing on her humanitarian work. Brad is currently filming a movie with Marion Cotillard in England and all over Europe, and so Angelina and the kids have been calling London home for months. It’s been a good phase for Angelina, mostly because I think she really has just been focusing completely on humanitarian work. She’s set up a new advocacy partnership focusing on sexual crimes in conflict and war. She also gave an amazing speech at the BBC last week. And now this… Dame Saint Angelina is now Professor Dame Saint Angelina.

Angelina Jolie Pitt is taking her passion for women’s rights and gender equality to the classroom. The actress, 40, is set to join the London School of Economics as a visiting professor for the new masters course on women, peace and security for the 2016-2017 school year. As a visiting professor, Jolie Pitt will deliver guest lectures, participate in workshop and public events, and continue research on projects.

“I am very encouraged by the creation of this master’s programme. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict,” Jolie Pitt said in a statement. “I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations.”

The course, which is the first of its kind internationally, was launched last year by Jolie Pitt and Britain’s former foreign secretary, William Hauge – who will also serve as a visiting professor.

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Ambassador Melanne Verveer said they, too, are looking forward to bringing the program to the stateside campus.

“I was pleased to meet with Angelina Jolie during my recent trip to London on ways we at Georgetown University can continue the collaboration between our sister programs on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Verveer. “We look forward to welcoming Angelina and former foreign secretary Hague to Georgetown in the future.”

[From People]

I would have loved to take a class with a Professor Jolie. The class seems tailored to her expertise too, and the LSE is also where Jolie and William Hague founded the Centre on Women, Peace and Security last year. My guess is that Jolie’s professorship will be part of the new center/program. Can you even imagine being a masters student and having Angelina Jolie walk into the classroom? Can you imagine having her as an adviser? Or participating in small workshops with her? Those students are so lucky.

Chelsea Handler: ‘You should like other girls, if you don’t, you’re Angelina Jolie’

handlervotingact

At the end of Drew Barrymore’s interview on Chelsea Handler’s first Netflix show, they discussed how much they support and love other women. I didn’t mention this in Drew’s story because this is on Chelsea, not Drew. Chelsea ended with this gem “If you are a girl you should kind of like other girls, and if you don’t, your name is Angelina Jolie.” It’s like all her jokes are from 2005, but more than that, Angelina’s name was on the tip of her tongue like she was thinking of her this whole time. We know she hates Angelina and apparently that supersedes her ability to make a relevant joke. You know which name would have fit there? Becky.

To promote her show and her same tired shtick, Chelsea has a first person essay for Motto magazine, which is put out by Time. She waxes on about how she’s single and how single women are stigmatized by society. She does make some decent points, but it sounds more about her than about the topic. Here’s some of what she said:

On the practicality of being single
I understand the urge to procreate and the beauty of having children, but on the other hand, might perhaps this “be fruitful and multiply” experiment of 7.4 billion humans on the planet possibly be due for a serious mental health and environmental check-up.

On single men
As is the tradition in what is still mostly a man’s world, single females still bear the disproportionate brunt of single-shaming and single-bewilderment-syndrome, while men tend to receive an understanding wink and a nod regarding their bachelor achievements, bedroom conquests and beer breakfasts.

On embracing being single
It’s not just O.K. to be single for both men and women—it’s wonderful to be single, and society needs to embrace singlehood in all its splendiferous, solitary glory.

On what to say to single women
Next time you see a single woman, instead of asking her where her boyfriend, husband or eunuch is, congratulate her on her accomplished sense of self and for reaching the solitary mountaintop by herself without a ring on her finger weighing her down like a male paperweight.

Jennifer Aniston, the #1 Snubbed, is going to present at this year’s Oscars

wenn22131988

I figured this would happen. I actually think this was the point of Jennifer Aniston’s “#1 Snubbed Media Tour” a few weeks ago. Of course she wanted to get nominated for an Oscar, but failing that, she wanted to be known as the #1 Snubbed this year so Oscar producers would feel like they had to “make it up” to her by inviting her to present at this year’s Oscars. Meanwhile, the real #1 Snubbed, David Oyelowo, was also asked to present, so I’m not mad about that at least.

No hard feelings, Jen? When the Oscar nominations were announced last month, there was one name noticeably missing from the Best Actress category. After her critically acclaimed performance in Cake, Jennifer Aniston was considered a frontrunner to be nominated.

The Friends alum, 45, however, was unable to score the coveted honor, and many considered it to be one of the biggest snubs of this season. On Tuesday, Feb. 10, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scienes announced that Aniston would still have a part in the show — as a presenter.

Other presenters include Selma’s David Oyelowo, who was also snubbed for his role as Martin Luther King, Jr., making this year’s acting nominees the whitest group in 20 years.

Other presenters include Sienna Miller, Chris Pratt, Chris Rock, Kerry Washington, and John Travolta. At last year’s show, Travolta made headlines and created countless memes when he accidentally introduced Frozen songstress Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem.” Fingers crossed he has to pronounce the name “Benedict Cumberbatch” this time.

[From Us Weekly]

I can’t believe they asked Travolta again after the Adele Dazeem disaster. Maybe they’re actually hoping for another Travolta mishap because that was one of the most-talked about moments last year. Anyway, I’m not super-jazzed about this presenters list so far. I’m excited that all of last year’s winners are coming back, of course, because I’m dying for some Cate Blanchett and I always love some Lupita. Benedict Cumberbatch is going to present too. But I still feel like they need some bigger names other than… Sienna Miller and Chris Pratt, you know? And how about some fun people too? How about Viola Davis? Or Catherine Deneuve? Or Charlize Theron & Sean Penn? Or Bill Murray? Or Angelina Jolie? Hell, I would happy to see Gwyneth Paltrow as a presenter too.

Do you think that because Aniston is going to present, that means Brangelina won’t be asked to attend or present? Brad is one of the producers on Selma, you know. He would have legitimate reason to be there. And Angelina’s Unbroken got some technical nominations.

Does Brad Pitt find George Clooney’s behavior ‘embarrassing & childish’?

wenn2044271

I’ve thought for a long time now that George Clooney and Brad Pitt have never really been BFFs. They were friendly enough making the Oceans movies, but they never go out of their way to hang out with each other, especially once Brad got with Angelina and became a father. They were never bros, at least not in the way Clooney is bros with his dude-friends. So, how did that happen? Why did George and Brad never fully develop a bromance? Is it because they just had different life priorities? Is it because George always seemed slightly jealous of Brad (just my opinion)? Or is it because Brad thinks George is totally immature? BOY FIGHT!

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are at “war,” according to OK!, which claims the “bromance” has “come apart at the seams” because Clooney is too childish for Pitt.

An insider says: “Brad’s changed, and George hasn’t. That’s where the issue lies.” OK! explains that Clooney’s fondness for pranks and “frat-boy ways” is specifically what now separates him from Pitt. “At times, Brad actually finds George’s behavior embarrassing and childish. That’s something he never thought he’d think,” a source claims.

OK! points to Clooney’s recent time drinking tequila with Jennifer Aniston in Cabo San Lucas over the holidays. “Brad chuckled when he read about the trip… He thought it was typical George, trying to prove he’s still Mr. Fun. Brad’s got this holier-than-thou attitude at times, and George has put him on a pedestal, which hasn’t helped.”

[From Gossip Cop]

Gossip Cop’s insider says it’s crap, which… I mean, sure. As I said, I don’t think George and Brad have been close for a while a now, if they ever were. Does Brad think George is immature? Eh. I think George is immature. I would imagine that any father of six would look at George’s life and think, “Kind of superficial.” Which is exactly why George has made such a radical 180 in the past year, trying to convince everyone that he’s not a punchline in one of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s jokes.

Angelina Jolie steps out while Jen Aniston comments on the ‘made-up triangle’

FFN_Jolie_Angie_LAV_012315_51634490

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie headed out of LAX on Friday. Those boots! That bag! I even sort of like the half-shawl/half-sweater thing. I’m not sure if it is two pieces (sweater and a shawl) or it’s all one sack-like sweater. Whatever it is, it looks comfortable. Her skin looks really good too – very dewy.

I’m not sure where Angelina is headed, but it’s probably not Japan. Unbroken still hasn’t premiered in Japan, because the far-right Japanese nationalists still believe that the film insults the Japanese people and is completely “anti-Japan.” You can read more about the situation here. Basically, it doesn’t seem like the studio is going to fight very hard to get Unbroken distributed in Japan, which is bad news but not the absolute worst. Reading the book and hearing interviews with Louis Zamperini, he was very much at peace with what happened during the war and he wished the Japanese people well. He even returned to Japan for the Nagano Olympics and he was allowed to carry the Olympic torch. But – the film didn’t have room for a lot of the nuances of the book, and maybe it’s a good thing that Unbroken won’t be released there.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston is still giving quotes about Brangelina. Her latest comments came on Marlo Thomas’ web series, Mondays with Marlo. Jennifer said: “You know…it’s a made-up triangle. It’s a made-up dramatic story line. It’s now to the point where all of us — because everybody is happy…everyone’s moved on — it feels very silly at a certain point to keep harping on it.” Yes, she’s right. It’s been ten years. I guess “a decade” is “a certain point.” As for the “made-up triangle”… Jesus, she was the first person to refer to herself plus Brangelina as the “Bermuda Triangle”. SHE SAID IT!
