Bill Murray, 72, is reportedly dating Kelis, 43: they’re ‘meeting up in London’

Bill Murray is just one of those celebrities. He’s one of those (white) guys who gets away with it. He gets away with treating costars like garbage and people still hire him. He gets away with harassing Geena Davis and verbally abusing Lucy Liu and people just selectively ignore their stories. He gets away with getting fired for putting his hands on unconsenting women and he still gets asked to do another Ghostbusters movie. So, Bill Murray is in London, filming a new Ghostbusters movie. While in London, he went to a music festival, which is where he ran into Kelis. They were photographed together backstage at her show, and now the Sun claims that they’re dating.

Hollywood superstar Bill Murray has struck up an unlikely romance with Milkshake singer Kelis — who is almost 30 years his junior. The Ghostbusters actor, 72, watched the mum of three, 43, perform from the side of the stage in London last weekend – having also been spotted at her other recent shows.

Sources say the pair were also together at the same hotel, and have been “getting close for a while” after first meeting in their native US. They have reportedly bonded since Kelis’s second husband died in March last year, while Bill’s estranged wife passed away in 2021.

Father-of-six Bill was pictured during Kelis’s set at the Mighty Hoopla festival in Brockwell Park, South London. The pair also posed for a cosy snap backstage.

A friend said: “They’ve met up in the States before which got people in the industry talking, and now are meeting up in London while they’re both here. They’ve clearly hit it off. They were both seen at the same hotel, and he’s been to watch her perform several times before he went to Mighty Hoopla. But they’ve also both shared relatively recent bereavements and have that common bond between them. Whatever it is that has brought them together, and however unlikely it seems, they are both single and are having fun despite the fairly big age gap.”

Bill is currently filming a sequel to the classic Ghostbusters franchise in London, which sees him reprise his role as Peter Venkman alongside many of the original cast from the 1984 blockbuster. Off screen, his second wife Jennifer Butler accused him of domestic abuse and sex, marijuana and alcohol addictions — as well as infidelity — during their marriage. The costume designer filed for divorce in 2008, but the pair are understood to have remained in touch before her death in 2021.

[From The Sun]

Yeah, I doubt this is real. I think they met and they were probably nice to each other and had a conversation, but this feels more like the Sun’s editorial staff just making up a story to go along with the photos. In any case, I HOPE Kelis isn’t dating Bill Murray. She’s had so much drama and tragedy in her life and she’s had bad luck with men. She doesn’t need Bill Murray’s crap.

Geena Davis describes how Bill Murray harassed her on set in 1990

Geena Davis released her first book yesterday. That surprised me, I thought she’d published a memoir before. The book is called Dying of Politeness: A Memoir and talks about Geena’s journey from childhood to Hollywood. As you can imagine, she’s seen her fair share of misogyny and harassment. Much of the gender inequality is what led her to start The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. She writes about working with Bill Murray in 1990’s Quick Change. Geena was about 34 at the time and Bill was about 40. She said that in their first meeting, which took place in a hotel room, Bill acted creepy with a massager and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Then, on set, he shouted at Geena for being late when she had a perfectly good reason and continued to scream at her in front of everyone as she walked to set.

In her upcoming memoir “Dying of Politeness,” Geena Davis alleges a toxic experience working with Bill Murray on the 1990 film “Quick Change.” She accuses Murray of behaving inappropriately toward her during her initial audition and then being overly aggressive with her on set.

The actress elaborated on the experience in a new interview with The Times (UK). The publication offered the following summary of her description of working with Murray in the book: “She’s introduced to [Murray], she writes, in a hotel suite, where Murray greets her with something called The Thumper, a massage device he insists on using on her, despite her emphatically refusing; later, while they’re filming on location, Murray tracks Davis down in her trailer and begins screaming at her for being late (she’s waiting for her wardrobe), continues to scream at her as she hurries onto the set and even as she gets there, in front of hundreds of cast, crew, curious passers-by.”

“That was bad,” Davis said in the interview. “The way he behaved at the first meeting… I should have walked out of that or profoundly defended myself, in which case I wouldn’t have got the part. I could have avoided that treatment if I’d known how to react or what to do during the audition. But, you know, I was so non-confrontational that I just didn’t.”

Davis went on to say that she regrets blaming herself, as the consequences for the inappropriate behavior should land on Murray.

“There’s no point in regretting things, and yet, here I was regretting,” she said. “It wasn’t my fault.”

[From IndieWire via Pajiba]

I mention Geena and Murray’s ages because she wasn’t a child, and he wasn’t that much older. By Quick Change, Geena had been a working actress for a decade and won her Oscar. She was perfectly established but Murray felt he had every right to lord power over her. It cinches my heart to read Geena saying she blamed herself for not managing the behavior. That’s what women were trained to do. If a man’s behavior went off the rails, we were conditioned to look at our part in making that happen. Hopefully that has changed and we are no longer teaching young women to blame themselves.

I was looking for a reason to talk about the film The Greatest Beer Run Ever this week. It is so much better than you think it is, don’t write it off because of what you think the title suggests. But one of the things I wanted to praise was Murray’s performance. And now I don’t, because it doesn’t matter knowing that he behaved this way, and everyone just allowed it because he made them laugh and bought some baseball tickets. What’s worse, his victims like Geena, Lucy Liu, and those folks on Being Mortal were made into the bad guy because they dared to speak out against Mr. Groundhog Day. Beer Run is still a really good movie, and all the performances are good. Murray’s role is small. Follow it is up with A League of Their Own or The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena and some guys that don’t have bad press.

Bill Murray: ‘I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way’

In April, production was suspended on Being Mortal because of Bill Murray’s behavior. We found out soon enough that Murray had behaved inappropriately with women on set, and that he was (according to sources) too “handsy.” Murray has a long history of being inappropriate, predatory and just a world-class jackass to all kinds of people, so I completely believe his behavior rose to the level of needing an in-house investigation and a suspended production (it’s still suspended, by the way). But how does Murray justify it? Well, he was interviewed on CNBC at the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting and he said many words.

Murray did not provide specifics on what happened, but instead talked about how he was coping with the fallout from it. Murray characterized it as a “difference of opinion” with a woman on the set.

“I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way,” Murray said. “The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it. and so they stopped the production. But as of now, we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other. I think that’s where the real issue is, between our peace. We’re both professionals. We like each other’s work. We like each other, I think, and if you can’t really get along and trust each other, there’s no point in going further working together or making a movie as well.”

He allowed that he’s been spending the time since production was halted doing not much else beyond thinking about what happened, adding that “It’s been quite an education for me… And I feel like if I don’t see that, you know, the world is different than it was when I was a little kid. You know, what I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and the times change, so it’s important for me to figure it out. And I think the most important thing is that it’s best for the other person. I thought about it, and if it’s not best for the other person, doesn’t matter what happens for me.”

Murray said he pondered, “How could I misperceive? How could I be so inaccurate and so insensitive when you think you’re being sensitive to some sensibility that you’ve had for a long time? So we’re talking about it. We’re, I think we’re gonna make peace with it. I’m very optimistic about that.”

He added that he is trying to learn from what happened. “I really think that’s a really sad puppy that can’t learn anymore. I don’t want to be that sad dog and I have no intention of it. I’ve, what would make me the happiest would be to, you know, put my boots on and for both of us to go back into work and be able to trust each other and work at the work that we’ve both spent a lot of time developing the skill of, and hopefully do something that’s good for more than just the two of us, but for a whole crew of people, a whole crew of movie makers. and the movie studio as well.”

[From Deadline]

He’s absolutely saying that he behaved inappropriately with a female costar, right? That’s exactly what it sounds like. I immediately checked IMDB to see which actresses were attached to the film and there’s only one woman listed in the cast: Keke Palmer. Did Bill Murray put his hands on Keke? That explains a lot about why the studio is taking this so seriously and why the production is still suspended. I hate that Murray basically outed Keke as his victim though, because you know he’s putting a target on her back. All of Murray’s bro-defenders are going to go after her as “the bitch who couldn’t take a joke” or worse. It f–king sucks, all of this.

Jennifer Aniston, the #1 Snubbed, is going to present at this year’s Oscars

wenn22131988

I figured this would happen. I actually think this was the point of Jennifer Aniston’s “#1 Snubbed Media Tour” a few weeks ago. Of course she wanted to get nominated for an Oscar, but failing that, she wanted to be known as the #1 Snubbed this year so Oscar producers would feel like they had to “make it up” to her by inviting her to present at this year’s Oscars. Meanwhile, the real #1 Snubbed, David Oyelowo, was also asked to present, so I’m not mad about that at least.

No hard feelings, Jen? When the Oscar nominations were announced last month, there was one name noticeably missing from the Best Actress category. After her critically acclaimed performance in Cake, Jennifer Aniston was considered a frontrunner to be nominated.

The Friends alum, 45, however, was unable to score the coveted honor, and many considered it to be one of the biggest snubs of this season. On Tuesday, Feb. 10, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scienes announced that Aniston would still have a part in the show — as a presenter.

Other presenters include Selma’s David Oyelowo, who was also snubbed for his role as Martin Luther King, Jr., making this year’s acting nominees the whitest group in 20 years.

Other presenters include Sienna Miller, Chris Pratt, Chris Rock, Kerry Washington, and John Travolta. At last year’s show, Travolta made headlines and created countless memes when he accidentally introduced Frozen songstress Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem.” Fingers crossed he has to pronounce the name “Benedict Cumberbatch” this time.

[From Us Weekly]

I can’t believe they asked Travolta again after the Adele Dazeem disaster. Maybe they’re actually hoping for another Travolta mishap because that was one of the most-talked about moments last year. Anyway, I’m not super-jazzed about this presenters list so far. I’m excited that all of last year’s winners are coming back, of course, because I’m dying for some Cate Blanchett and I always love some Lupita. Benedict Cumberbatch is going to present too. But I still feel like they need some bigger names other than… Sienna Miller and Chris Pratt, you know? And how about some fun people too? How about Viola Davis? Or Catherine Deneuve? Or Charlize Theron & Sean Penn? Or Bill Murray? Or Angelina Jolie? Hell, I would happy to see Gwyneth Paltrow as a presenter too.

Do you think that because Aniston is going to present, that means Brangelina won’t be asked to attend or present? Brad is one of the producers on Selma, you know. He would have legitimate reason to be there. And Angelina’s Unbroken got some technical nominations.

-Everything you think you know about True Detective Season 2 is wrong.

-I’m not filled with loathing and disgust when looking upon Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding photos. Clearly, I’m coming down with something.

-Meanwhile, they’re staying at Castlemartyr Resort for their honeymoon. As if the Irish haven’t suffered enough…

-More things you didn’t want to know about Kimye: Kylie Jenner and Jaden Smith were spotted making out at the wedding.

Bill Murray crashed a bachelor party and gave an awesome speech about relationships:  “Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of, and if when you come back to JFK, when you land in JFK and you’re still in love with that person, get married at the airport.”

Seth Rogen may have a point about the Washington Post critic making a link between his new movie and the USCB shootings, but I still hate the way he responded.

-I keep hearing people raving about this show In the Flesh. Might have to give it a whirl.

Jessica Simpson‘s bikini pic on Instagram might be the most awkward of all awkward poses.

-Being friends with Miranda Kerr means you get a lot of free clothes. You’re probably plagued by insecurity and low self-esteem too, but FREE CLOTHES!

-This photo of Deryck Whibley is shockingly sad — but he’s getting better.

Lindsay Lohan got kicked off a yacht in Cannes because karma.

-Speaking of yacht life, Justin Bieber flirted with a model after hanging out on a yacht with Gigi Hadid.

Kate Middleton‘s bare butt was exposed during a Marilyn Monroe moment — and a German paper published a photo of it because the world is gross.

Scarlett Johansson might play Dolly Parton? God help us all.

Channing Tatum is so awesome, he can even make Shia LaBeouf sound like a cool guy.

-Is George Clooney having a Downton Abbey wedding? I refuse to believe this. Je refuse!

-The Before You Know It trailer gave me a lot of feels.

George Clooney has a ‘Hitlerian agenda’ for antiquities, claims Boris Johnson

wenn21076913

If you asked me last Saturday if I thought I was going to spend this week discussing the British Museum’s possession of The Elgin Marbles/The Parthenon Marbles, I would have said you were crazy. But here we are. Quick note: these are some assorted new pics from the promotional tour for The Monuments Men. Most of these pics are from the London premiere and photocall. Anyway, back to the marbles. When doing press in Italy, George Clooney was asked – by a Greek reporter – if he thought the British Museum should return the Elgin Marbles to Greece. George said that it would probably be a good idea. The Greeks lavished praise on Clooney and they invited him to stay in Greece whenever he wants. But now George is England, and the English have a bone to pick with him. Before Clooney even arrived in England, John Whittingdale, the chairman of Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee told reporters:

“I’m a great admirer of George Clooney, but I suspect that he probably doesn’t know the history of the Elgin marbles and the legal entitlement that Britain has to them. He’s an American. I suspect he doesn’t know why it is that Britain came to acquire the Elgin marbles. There’s a very strong view in this country that they should stay.”

[From The LAT]

Basically, Clooney is a dumb America who should just go back to America and stop talking about Europe’s stolen art? Right. So, the British reporters were ready to pounce on Clooney as soon as he arrived. They asked him to reiterate his position. Clooney actually sounds good here:

At today’s press conference, held at the National Gallery, Clooney said it had been “one in about 100 questions at a press conference, from a Greek reporter, and I said I thought it was probably a good idea if they found their way back”.

But he added: “Apparently I got in trouble for saying that and I had to do a little research to make sure I wasn’t completely out of my mind. Even in England, the polling is in favour of returning the marbles to the Pantheon [sic]. The Vatican returned parts of it, the Getty returned parts of it [the Vatican gave a section of the Parthenon frieze to the Acropolis museum in Athens on loan; the J Paul Getty museum in Los Angeles repatriated looted treasures last year]. There are certain pieces you look at and think, ‘That would perhaps be the right thing to do’.”

Clooney noted that he had been criticized for commenting because he was American and did not have sufficient understanding of the situation.

But Matt Damon, who was also present at the press conference, laughed: “That can’t always be the British default setting. It’s not actually an argument to say, ‘He’s American, he doesn’t get it’.”

[From The Telegraph]

I tend to think George had the right to his opinion, and I err more on his side of the argument anyway. But don’t look at me – if I had my way, the Queen would return the Koh-i-Noor diamond to India as well. Anyway, this has become a major kerfuffle in the UK, and wouldn’t you know, London mayor Boris Johnson decided to chime in too:

“Someone urgently needs to restore George Clooney’s marbles. Here he is plugging a film about looted Nazi art without realising that Göring himself had plans to plunder the British Museum. And where were the Nazis going to send the Elgin marbles? To Athens! This Clooney is advocating nothing less than the Hitlerian agenda for London’s cultural treasures. He should stuff the Hollywood script and stick to history.”

[From The Standard]

That argument makes absolutely no sense. It’s not even a reasonable application of Godwin’s law. Yes, the Nazis looted so many museums. They stole precious artwork and treasures from museums and from private citizens. SO DID ENGLAND. Just because England did it under the guise of “colonization” a century or two before the Nazis, doesn’t make it any less wrong. It’s like saying, “The Nazis were going to steal the stuff that WE STOLE FIRST.”

The Sun: George Clooney dumped Stacy Keibler, gave her an apartment, jewelry

In last week’s Us Weekly, sources claimed that George Clooney and Stacy Keibler were pretty much done. Reasons given for the split were lack of common interests, age difference, Stacy likes to party and she has D-list friends who she brings along to George’s A-list Oscar parties, etc, etc. No one thought to mention that Oscar season was over and Stacy’s contract was up…? What was interesting about that Us Weekly story was that no one denied it outright. Stacy didn’t say anything. George didn’t say anything. No publicist was sent out to deny anything. But this week’s Enquirer (always a favorite of George’s ladies, truly) speculated that Stacy has George right where she wants him and she’s playing some sort of long game to get him to propose. Needless to say, I thought that story was too absurd to even cover. And now this – The Sun (side-eye) claims that George and Stacy are completely done and he’s already given her some parting gifts.

GEORGE CLOONEY is back on the market.

The actor and STACY KEIBLER have split after deciding their relationship wasn’t going anywhere.

A source said: “They knew it was never going to end in marriage or babies and Stacy does want kids and a husband in the next few years.”

George softened the break-up blow by giving the former wrestler an apartment and a load of jewelry. That was probably to avoid getting clotheslined.

[From The Sun UK]

George gave Elisabetta Canalis some parting gifts too, if I remember correctly. I think George just gave Eli money – like $2 million and a nondisclosure agreement. I wonder what kind of apartment Stacy got? Like, a fancy LA condo? Probably. And I think Stacy positioned herself much better than every other Clooney girlfriend too – Stacy knew her limits, she didn’t try to have some kind of “modeling career” (Sarah Larsen) or “acting career” (Elisabetta). Stacy knew that her aspirations should be limited to reality TV hostess/personality. She quietly did minor paid appearances and put some money away for a rainy day, and now she’s got an apartment and probably some nice jewelry which she can sell if times get tough. I think she’ll be fine. And I’m sure she got a nondisclosure agreement too. Oh… George’s rep might be denying this story…? Maybe? I can’t find good sourcing on that, but I’ll update if I see something.

By the way, George is in Germany right now working on The Monuments Men with Matt Damon, John Goodman and Bill Murray (and Jean Dujardin, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Bonneville). Stacy has not been asked to join him on location. Just FYI.
