Jennifer Hudson Likes Mariah Carey on ‘American Idol’; The Others… Not So Much

Jennifer Hudson took a break from updating her thinspiration tumblr and trying to shrink her head down to match her body size this week to let the world what she thinks of the new panel of American Idol judges. My guess (because it’s my own opinion) is that she loves Mariah Carey, who’s a legend, thinks Nicki Minaj is clinically insane/really annoying and couldn’t give two shits about Keith Urban because all she knows is that he’s Nicole Kidman‘s husband and used to be an alcoholic.

Well, what do you say – am I right? Do I win the special prize?

When it comes to the new judges on American Idol, the show’s most famous daughter, Jennifer Hudson, isn’t going overboard with praise.

‘It’s taken a bit to get used to the new judges. I come from American Idol, so I’m used to seeing Simon, Paula and Randy,’ she explained about the latest season during an interview on Live with Kelly & Michael on Friday morning.

‘So now it’s new faces, and to me, [Cowell, Abdul and Jackson] represented the show. It’s kind of awkward for me to see it with new judges.’

They’re ‘awkward’: Jennifer Hudson isn’t keen on the new American Idol judging panel, save for Mariah Carey, she told Kelly and Michael on Friday. But she did have some kind words for diva of divas, Mariah Carey.

‘Well, I’m happy that [Mariah Carey]‘s there because she’s a singer, so she knows what to expect, how to judge, even the position that the kids are in when they’re auditioning,’ she said.

But when asked about Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj – both successful artists, both singers – she could only respond with a vague, ‘Ummmm, yes.’

Listen, Idol has been dead in the water for at least the past three seasons and throwing the biggest stars in the world on that panel is not going to save it. Let it die, Fox. Mariah’s head is soon going to inflate too big to fit in the door, Nicki is going to go full-blown schizophrenic and Keith will be driven to return to drink. I don’t know what the hell Randy Jackson is going to do. Probably end up homeless on the corner, begging for “food, dawg“.

Does Jennifer Aniston have the power to bring back gauchos & fuzzy berets?

Here are some new photos of Jennifer AnistOMG is she wearing gauchos?! Good lord. Is the power of the Aniston strong enough to bring back gauchos?! Just watch… I bet you $10 that everyone will be wearing gauchos in a month. Wait for it. Anyway, yes, Jennifer was in Stamford, Connecticut yesterday, filming outdoors. She’s doing that Elmore Leonard film adaptation, the movie that basically sounds like a remake of Ruthless People (for those of us who adore the divine Bette Midler).

And yes, Jennifer IS wearing a wig. Every legit media outlet getting “tips” from Jennifer’s publicist has included details about how she’s wearing a wig. From a distance, it’s a decent wig. Sometimes movie-wiglets look like dead cats. This one looks somewhat natural, although I don’t think the shade of blonde really suits Jennifer. I always want her to go for darker hair though. Darker hair would make her look younger, I think, while the blonder she goes, the more she looks like a rough-and-tumble Real Housewife. Maybe that’s the right “look” for the character though.

In other Jennifer news, she’s signing on to another ensemble comedy, this one called She’s Funny That Way. Here’s more:

What is it about Berlin and Jennifer Aniston? This is the third project being sold here at the EFM that involves the actress (the other two are Convention and an untitled Elmore Leonard project that’s currently shooting.) Red Granite International is handling international sales on She’s Funny That Way which also stars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Cybil Shepherd, Eugene Levy, Kathryn Hahn and Brie Larson. Peter Bogdanovich is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Louise Stratten. Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach are producing.

The film centers on a married Broadway director (Wilson) who falls for a prostitute-turned-actress and works to help her advance her career. Aniston will play a therapist whose mother is in rehab for alcoholism. Principal photography is set to start in June in New York City. Aniston is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

My heart stopped for a second when I read the line “falls for a prostitute-turned-actress and works to help her advance her career.” Because I thought THAT was the role going to Jennifer. Thank God she’s not playing a hooker/actress. Maybe that will be Brie Larson’s role? Or maybe they’ll just get Lindsay Lohan.

PS… She’s going to bring back fuzzy berets too!!!

Emmy Rossum at the Beautiful Creatures premiere: amazing or too formal?

These are photos of the lovely Emmy Rossum at the premiere of Beautiful Creatures, which is out next week. It’s a “supernatural love story” based on a young adult novel, and the plot sounds straight out of the CW. There are rings involved that turn color and change the wearer’s fate when they reach a certain age, and the female supernatural protagonist is struggling with young forbidden love before she learns what will happen to her. Anyway it will probably be a huge hit considering the subject matter, and Emmy is in it as one of the supernatural witches, or “casters.” It also stars Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson and Viola Davis. (The young couple are new actors I haven’t heard of before, Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich.)

Anyway Emmy wore this kind of formal cross-bodice black and white Andrew Gn gown which wouldn’t look out of place at the Academy Awards. It was a little stiff for a premiere, especially with her sophisticated hair and makeup, but it’s still amazing. She looks so well put together and just beautiful. I also like how she poses like she’s happy to be there but isn’t haughty about it. She’s not full of herself, and it shows.

I’m a huge fan of Emmy’s show “Shameless” on Showtime, having been turned on to it by an article on Pajiba. (I was going to take Kaiser’s lead and unsubscribe from Showtime after Homeland wrapped, but then Shameless pulled me back in.) Emmy plays the lead deftly, her character is a young woman who has been caring for her brothers and sisters after her mom left the family in the care of her alcoholic dad. (William H. Macy plays the dad, he’s awesome too, and also Joan Cusack is in it!) I was thrilled to learn, from last week’s US Weekly, that Emmy is currently dating her co-star, Tyler Jacob Moore. He plays Tony the cop on Shameless, and I won’t give more information or spoilers because I want you to check it out if you’re inclined. The show is so worth it.

Also, here’s Beautiful Creatures’ main star, Alice Englert, in Elie Saab. She’s 18. I thought this dress was way too frou-frou, but they like it over at Red Carpet Fashion Awards.
