Simon Cowell only proposed to Lauren Silverman because of her ultimatum?

In the summer of 2013, there was a rather fun sex/divorce scandal involving Simon Cowell and a married couple, Andrew and Lauren Silverman. The Silvermans were good friends with Simon and they often vacationed together, all three of them, plus Simon’s harem of ex-girlfriends. Then Lauren turned up pregnant, Andrew filed for divorce and named Simon as the other man, and the father of Lauren’s unborn child. It was a crazy mess. Simon threw some money around, Lauren and Andrew’s divorce was finalized somewhat quietly, and Simon and Lauren have been together ever since. They raise their son Eric together, and Lauren has joint custody of her son with Andrew. This week, Lauren and Simon got engaged. I wondered if there was some bonkers backstory to the proposal, and guess what? There is. Some highlights from this insane Page Six story:

The engagement is the last gasp: “Around Christmas I know that she was talking about it, and he was refusing,” a source told The Post. “They had reached a difficult point in the relationship — you might call it a crisis. There was misery. Perhaps she had made it clear that she was not going to stick around unless they got married.”

This is the second engagement, actually: The source said this is actually their second engagement. The first was not long after the birth of their son Eric, now 7 years old. “I know that Simon got her an engagement ring about a year after the pregnancy was announced … but he then put it away in a safe and made it clear that he didn’t want to get married after all,” the source said. “She’s a nice middle-class girl and she always wanted to get married. Her mum said that she trusted Simon to ‘do the right thing’ before Eric was born. Well, she’s been waiting a long time — and so has Lauren.”

Simon proposed for Eric’s sake: A longtime Cowell colleague told The Post that the engagement is also, in a big way, about his much-adored son. “Everything he does now is about Eric and his legacy,” the colleague said. “He wants to give Eric legitimacy.”

Lauren has been “desperate” to become Mrs. Cowell: But Cowell, 62, has made it clear that he’s no fan of matrimony — both because he likes his own space and, sources say, because he hasn’t wanted to put his $500 million fortune at risk in the event of a divorce.

Lauren cut off some of Simon’s harem: Silverman, meanwhile, has reportedly cut off some of Cowell’s former female friends and ex-lovers. She’s become a bit of a gatekeeper, as Cowell doesn’t carry a mobile phone — he finds it helps his mental health — and friends and business colleagues now find that, if they want to get hold of Cowell, the fastest way is through Lauren. One Cowell business source said that he feels it is a bit of a “power play” on Cowell’s part — but it does make Silverman indispensable. (She reportedly also sometimes carries his cigarettes at parties, as a way of making sure they continually check in with each other.)

Semi-detached: Silverman typically spends a week with him in London or at their house in Malibu, Calif., and then flies to New York to spend a week with son Adam, as part of her custody agreement with her ex. “It’s already a funny, slightly semi-detached dynamic,” said one Cowell pal. Others, though, deny this.

Simon changed after he broke his back in 2020: “He is someone looking for a new purpose, and perhaps he has decided that the time has come to grow up,” the friend told The Post. “There is a sense of him turning over a new page. I hear that he has been negotiating deals to come back as a music producer, as I think he’s coming to accept that his days of TV appearances are … coming to an end.”

Yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if the proposal was an answer to Lauren giving him a firm ultimatum. And what kind of jackass gives a woman a ring and then makes her put it in a safe? The thing is, Simon IS known to be generous with current and former lovers. He’s bought houses and apartments for exes, he pays for them to travel with him and go on vacation with them, and many of his exes still enjoy being with him and being part of his harem, although it’s been many years since he’s vacationed with all of his exes in tow. But my point is that he treats women well, he just doesn’t want to get married. And Lauren knew that going into it too, for goodness sake.

Simon Cowell proposed to his baby-mama Lauren Silverman after nine years

Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman

Simon Cowell’s publicist is smoking crack, I swear to God. Throughout the British and American media this morning, there are stories about how Simon Cowell has finally proposed to his long-time girlfriend and baby-mama Lauren Silverman. What could have been a simple engagement story has taken a weird turn, because Cowell’s publicist seems hellbent on whitewashing Simon and Lauren’s actual past. Like the fact that Lauren was fully married to someone else when she began banging Simon, who was then her husband’s good friend. She got pregnant with Simon’s son Eric while she was still married to her husband Andrew Silverman! Simon was named in Andrew’s divorce filing! And all of that went down in 2013. But please allow People Magazine to completely bone the timeline and misrepresent what actually happened:

Simon Cowell proposed to his longtime love! Cowell, 62, and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman are engaged, a source confirms to PEOPLE. The couple, who have been dating since 2004 and welcomed son Eric in February 2014, recently got engaged on Christmas Eve in Barbados, where they first met.

Cowell and Silverman, 44, went on a walk together and he surprised her by proposing on the beach. The proposal took place during a family vacation and the special moment was extra special as their 7-year-old son Eric and Silverman’s eldest son Adam were also present.

“They are both super happy,” the source says of the newly engaged couple. “They’ve been together a long time now and adore each other so it’s not a huge surprise to their close friends.”

Reps for Cowell also confirmed the engagement news to PEOPLE.

Again, Lauren’s husband only filed for divorce in 2013, after Simon Cowell got his wife pregnant. While I don’t doubt that Lauren and Simon’s affair had gone on for a while before then, they have not been together since 2004. I always believed that Simon basically paid Andrew Silverman to go away too – I think Simon paid off everyone involved so that it wouldn’t be an even bigger mess in the tabloids. Lauren always seemed like she was in it to win it too, bless her heart. I wish them well!

Tori Kelly covers Seventeen, denies a romance with Ed Sheeran

Singer Tori Kelly is the cover girl for the February issue of Seventeen, which just hit newsstands. The 23-year-old singer has had quite a year, with her album “Unbreakable Smile” peaking at number 2 on the Billboard 200, receiving the Breakthrough Award at Billboard’s Women in Music 2015 event and getting a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. She kicked off 2016 performing what’s most likely her new single, “Funny”, on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night.

In the Seventeen article, we learn that if the singer took Simon Cowell’s criticism to heart, we may never have gotten to hear “Nobody Love” (my personal song of the summer of 2015). Tori auditioned for season 9 of American Idol and was told by the notoriously prickly judge that her voice was “almost annoying”. Fortunately, Tori shook off his comments, telling the magazine, “Deep down, I knew I was good, and I knew I could do it. I needed to get knocked down and to build up a thick skin. Who knows what I would have been singing about otherwise? You have to go through things in order to inspire others with your story.”

Tori also uses this latest interview to clear up any rumors about her relationship with Ed Sheeran. Despite the fact that they make some beautiful music together, they have the single “I Was Made for Loving You”, they are strictly business. When asked about Ed, Tori replied, “I knew that was coming, but no. Working with him was a really cool experience because I was a fan and I didn’t know how it would go, but right away he made it super-chill. Ever since then, he’s been someone I consider a friend and even a mentor.”

Even though it’s been an exciting year, Tori has been accused of being boring – by her own manager. “He told me, ‘People are saying you are vanilla and that you have nothing to say.’ I was like, Whoa. I remembered record-label guys telling me I was really reserved when I was younger. Like, ‘Wake up, you should be bubbly and happy!’ And I was thinking, But this is my personality; I’m just chilling. So I went right back to being that little girl who was just so freaked out. I acted as if I didn’t care, but I went home that night and just poured all the feelings that I was holding back into my music. That’s how Unbreakable Smile came to be.”

A hit album, a Grammy nomination and a collaboration with Ed Sheeran? I would love to be that boring! You can check out the rest of the interview with Tori in the latest issue of Seventeen, available now.

Photos: Simon Cowell’s Baby Son Eric Is Pretty Cute

simon cowell eric

Simon Cowell and his soon-to-be-wife?/girlfriend/former friend’s ex-wife welcomed their baby son Eric this weekend at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, and while I think we all can agree that this will be the most spoiled rotten child born since Prince George, we had to know one thing: what’s he look like, for God’s sake? (This is apparently something people wanted to know.)

Well, good news: he’s cute! He’s basically just a wrinkled little baby person, like most newborns are, but he’s a cute one already, so that bodes well.

Simon seems to be a super proud and doting daddy, which is sorta adorable and not at all surprising given his interactions with kids over the years on the various talent shows he’s judged on. He always winks at them and is super sweet – completely different from his hard ass persona. Here are a couple more photos he posted on his Twitter page:

Awww, cute!

Celeb Babies Just Keep Coming: John Krasinski And Emily Blunt Welcome Baby Girl

Emily+Blunt+Pregnant+Emily+Blunt+John+Krasinski

Simon Cowell welcomed a baby boy into the world yesterday and today, it’s Emily Blunt and John Krasinski‘s turn. They had a baby girl today and named her Hazel. Office Jim tweeted,

Wanted to let the news out directly.  Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!

It interests me which celebs choose to let the news come out via their PR team and which tweet it directly. This happy couple and Cowell chose to tweet, whereas Owen Wilson used his PR team, as he doesn’t even have twitter. The question is, if a celeb tweets news like this directly, does it make you give more, or less, of a f-ck?

Just curious.

Anyway, congrats to the happy couple and the baby and all the happy bouncing celebrity babies.

Thank God: ‘The X Factor’ USA Has Been Canceled

x factor usa

I really wanted to love The X Factor USA – honestly I did. I’m a big fan of the UK version and thought, you know, a US version would probably be okay… except not, because America tends to ruin absolutely everything they adapt from across the pond. It’s been an absolute shit show for the past three reasons, has launched absolutely zero stars and can’t seem to hold onto any of the judges, who all take the paycheck and then realise they got themselves into a hot ass mess.

In any case, someone at Fox finally said enough is enough and cut the cord on The X Factor. That’s right: it’s been cancelled! No more Simon Cowell‘s grumpy face (he’s headed back to the UK version), no more Demi Lovato… doing whatever. No more other rotating panelists, none of which were any good at all. It’s done. Finito. Can you hear the angels rejoice?

Here’s Simon’s statement:

“I’ve had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on The X Factor and American Idol.

“And apart from being lucky enough to find some amazing talent on the shows, I have always had an incredible welcome from the American public (most of the time!).

“Last year, for a number of reasons, I had to make a decision to return to the UK version of The X Factor in 2014.

“So for now, I’m back to the UK and I want to thank Fox for being an incredible partner and I also want to thank everybody who has supported my shows. America, I’ll see you soon!”

Well… okay. See ya later, alligator. Thank God this shit is over. But wait, there’s more! Here’s what FOX entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly had to say:

“To all of us at Fox, Simon is more than one of the most prolific TV personalities of our time – he’s part of our family.

“A consummate showman and partner, there’s no-one more passionate or creative than Simon, and we feel so fortunate to have enjoyed such a wonderful, collaborative relationship with him over the past 12 years.Unfortunately, there is no X Factor USA without Simon Cowell, but we understand and support his decision to focus on the international formats and on the next phase of his personal life. We wish him the very best, and it’s our sincere hope that we work together again soon.”

Right, fair enough. The end. But I do not believe it’s over because Simon is leaving. It’s over because it was shit. K, that’s it.
