Duchess Kate repeats a McQueen for the Queen’s garden party: cute or meh?

kate2

I wouldn’t have even used this ^^ photo but the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter account actually posted this pic to promote the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s appearance at Tuesday’s Buckingham Palace garden party. Isn’t that interesting? The KensingtonRoyal account – the official account for Will, Kate and Harry – is often accused of cherry-picking particular images that reflect the younger royals as looking particular good and/or engaged. But this photo seems particularly unfortunate for Kate – it’s almost like the KP press office is just owning the fact that this is Kate’s Social-Interaction-Face.

As for Will and Kate’s appearance at the palace yesterday, Kate has been to the annual garden party several times before, but this is William’s first time. I would suspect that, if pressed, his press office would say that this is the first time he’s ever had an opening in his diary to attend! Kate repeated an Alexander McQueen coatdress which we saw back in 2013, for Prince George’s christening. I didn’t really care for it then, and I really don’t care for it now. The boob ruffle is just odd, and whenever Kate tries to move her arms (to touch her hair, or whatever), the coat bunches up in weird places. The whole thing looks sloppy, and it’s not just the sh-tty tailoring. It’s the design! Why would anyone want a big, vertical ruffle down their chest?

Will and Kate also chatted with some medical personnel at the garden party, because apparently the “support” OBGYNs who delivered George and Charlotte were there. Maybe this makes me sound prissy, but I would not want to socialize with my gyno at a garden party at the palace. That just seems awkward and unnecessary. You can read some quotes from the doctors here. They’re very forthcoming with details about the lead-up to the royal births.

Also, check out the refreshments at the garden party! I hope Will and Kate are taking notes on the Queen’s refreshments – when Will and Kate hosted a get-together before their India-Bhutan tour, the refreshments were really struggling. That strawberry (??) cake looks AMAZING.

Duchess Kate repeats a nautical McQueen, flirts with Sir Ben Ainslie

wenn23958530

It’s time for a flurry of wiglet adjusting and crotch clutching! Yes, the Duchess of Cambridge did a solo event today in Portsmouth to visit one of her favorite patronages, the 1851 Trust. And that means she got to spend time with hottie Sir Ben Ainslie. Everyone thinks/jokes about Kate’s crush on Ainslie. I do think that she seems particularly girlish and smiley around him, so take that as you will.

For today’s event, Kate repeated a nautical-themed (she LOVES theme dressing!) Alexander McQueen look that we saw back in 2011, when she was newly married. The first time she wore this, she paired it with darkly lined eyes and big, bouncy curls. All to visit people who had been affected by the London riots. The nautical-themed ensemble seemed inappropriate then, but it’s very appropriate now. After all, the 1851 Trust is all about sailing and boats and such. So, big gold buttons and navy and cream.

Meanwhile, William did a solo event earlier this week and most people would have just ignored him except that he dropped a piece of news about his kids. He spoke to some people at the event and he said that he was spending his time looking for schools for George. This set off a flurry of speculation about which primary school George would be sent to and whether it would be public or private, or in London or Norfolk. No one knows anything, but the Daily Mail has a list of potential candidates. I’ll make a prediction right now: I believe Will and Kate will really try to send George to school in Norfolk, not London. We’ll see if they’re allowed to remain in Norfolk much longer though. William’s contract with the EAAA runs out next year, and after that, the expectation will be that the family should move back to London.

Prince William & Duchess Kate will make their first visit to India next year

wenn23059188

There’s some good news/bad news with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Well, maybe “bad news” is too harsh. Maybe it’s just “I’m-not-sure-about-this news.” The good news is that William and Kate probably/maybe aren’t going to Mustique this month. At least from what I can tell of their confirmed schedule, I’m not sure when they would be able to fit it in. Last week, Kate confirmed an appearance for November 17th on behalf of The Fostering Network in London. Then William and Kate will be doing joint appearances in Wales on the 20th. When will they ever make it to Mustique?! It’s been forever since they had a proper holiday! *hair toss* I guess it’s possible that they’ll sneak away after the 20th, when America is celebrating Thanksgiving and few people are paying attention.

The Cambridges sent a threatening letter to the UK press about photos of George

george2

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge are possibly the two most privacy-obsessed royal figures we’ve ever seen. For most royal figures, there’s a trade-off: being photographed in public, whether at public events or out in the public sphere, is okay, especially considering the taxpayers are funding your lifestyle. Not okay? Having paparazzi break into royal properties, etc. The Cambridges have always played around with that traditional understanding, and it’s well known that William’s press machine often bullies and threatens photographers and media outlets for publishing photos of or stories about his family in the public sphere. Early this morning, Kensington Palace sent out a lengthy letter excoriating the paparazzi and the UK press for the lengths they’re going to get photos of Prince George.

Kensington Palace has issued one of its strongest warnings to date about photographing Prince George, detailing “disturbing” incidents where members of the paparazzi have gone to extreme lengths to photograph the young boy. The palace described a series of “increasingly dangerous” tactics used by members of the paparazzi in order to obtain images of the young prince. Just last week, a photographer was discovered in the boot of a rented car, where he was hiding out in an attempt to shoot photos with a long lens through a small gap in the vehicle, the palace reports.

The palace said in a statement: “Already concealed by darkened windows, he took the added step of hanging sheets inside the vehicle and created a hide stocked with food and drinks to get him through a full day of surveillance, waiting in hope to capture images of Prince George. Police discovered him lying down in the boot of the vehicle attempting to shoot photos with a long lens through a small gap in his hide. It is of course upsetting that such tactics – reminiscent as they are of past surveillance by groups intent on doing more than capturing images – are being deployed to profit from the image of a two-year old boy. The worry is that it will not always be possible to quickly distinguish between someone taking photos and someone intending to do more immediate harm.”

This palace lists the following incidents which have happened in recent months:

• on multiple occasions used long range lenses to capture images of The Duchess playing with Prince George in a number of private parks;
• monitored the movements of Prince George and his nanny around London parks and monitored the movements of other household staff;
• photographed the children of private individuals visiting The Duke and Duchess’s home;
• pursued cars leaving family homes;
• used other children to draw Prince George into view around playgrounds;
• been found hiding on private property in fields and woodland locations around The Duke and Duchess’s home in Norfolk;
• obscured themselves in sand dunes on a rural beach to take photos of Prince George playing with his grandmother;
• placed locations near the Middleton family home in Berkshire under steady surveillance

[From HuffPo]

While many of these incidents are clearly creepy, illegal and unseemly, there are some much bigger issues at play. The creepy and illegal incidents need to stop, of course. Let me just say that at the start. It’s disturbing to think of all of that attention being focused on George. Now, it does seem like KP is basically saying that George should only be photographed when William and Kate have decided that he should be photographed. Which… I don’t agree with that. If George is in the public sphere (a public park, a public beach, a Middleton-approved and staged photo op), then it’s fine. I also think that William and Kate are using George as a shield for their larger problems with the press, and they don’t want THEIR comings and goings and “private country life” analyzed too much (because they’ll look lazy).

There’s now a heated discussion amongst royal reporters, with Express’s Richard Palmer basically having a Twitter meltdown – go here to read some of his tweets.

Duchess Kate wants reporters to follow a dress code she has never adhered to

wenn21859349

There are a bunch of new stories about Prince William, Duchess Kate and the other royals from the past few days, but this post is just for Will & Kate! I think I’ll probably do another royal post on Monday, or maybe even Tuesday. First up in this royal round-up: William and Kate finally hired a PR person. Like, a real person with real-world experience in crisis management and public relations. Considering the last guy left very quickly after he came in, and given the more frequent reports of William’s constant bitchery, I’ve got to wonder how long this new guy is going to last. Plus, the new guy is an American!! OH NOES. The Yanks are invading the royal press office! Anyway, the guy’s name is Jason Knauf and he previously worked for RBS and the New Zealand government. You can read more about him here – his CV doesn’t seem all that impressive, but it also sounds like being in charge of media relations at RBS was akin to being captain of the Titanic. I say Knauf lasts less than a year.

Knauf’s first duty seems to be preparing the colonies for the invasion of William and Kate. Last week, the monarchy’s website sent out a reminder to all journalists covering Will and Kate: reporters much adhere to a “dress code.” The dress code seems relatively simple for professional people – no jeans or sneakers, men must wear a jacket and tie and women must wear pants or a skirt suit. What’s funny (to me at least) is that kind of simple, professional dress code is something Kate has never been able to adhere to. She is constantly wearing the wrong outfits for dress-code specific events, nevermind all of her “Marilyn Moments.” And if we see her in jeggings during a public event one more time, I think the journalists should revolt. Why would Kate be allowed to wear painted-on jeggings and a member of the press can’t wear comfortable sneakers?

Also on Knauf’s to-do list: trying to make Will and Kate seem like they actually spend time together and like they have a completely normal, romantic marriage. People Magazine managed to get this little story in:

When British florist Paula Pryke received her Order of the British Empire from Prince William last week, he confessed his love for pretty blooms – and how much he enjoyed treating his wife Kate to beautiful flowers.

“He told me that he liked buying flowers for Kate and how much she loved flowers,” Pryke tells PEOPLE from her base in London’s New Covent Garden Market.

Of course, it’s not the first time William has shown his romantic side. Just seven months after Prince George was born, he whisked Kate off for a luxurious week-long stay at an exclusive resort in the Maldives. And let’s not forget that in true princely style, he carried his mom Princess Diana’s engagement ring in his backpack all the way to Africa to propose to Kate back in 2010.

Pryke, who has worked with the royal family as well as numerous celebrities during her 30-year career, says receiving her award from William on Friday was “very exciting.”

[From People]

William buys flowers for Kate? Er? Okay. I mean, no shade. I like getting flowers too and it’s a simple, lovely gesture. But it does seem like a little piece of royal propaganda. Look, they’re so normal!

Last thing – Jack Whitehall is a young British comedian and he performed at the Variety Show, the same one that Will and Kate attended. During his set, Whitehall joked about how he went to school with Kate (although Jack is several years younger than Kate) and how she was “the one who got away” and he had a “crush” on her at school. Apparently, William came up to him later and joked about how Whitehall was “flirting with my missus.” Whitehall told Graham Norton: “William came over and he was very funny, he was very nice but very passive aggressive [and said] ‘Oh, so you were flirting with my missus? Oh no that was very funny!’” LOL, describing William as passive-aggressive… amazing.

Harry thinks royal baby #2 is a one big joke

prince harry

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been forced to procreate a second time (seriously, I can’t imagine Kate in particular would be so keen to get pregnant again already, especially considering how awful her first pregnancy was) and the one person who’s sitting back laughing is Prince Harry. It’s all one big joke to Harry. Life’s a party, eh?

From People:

Harry was smiling at an Invictus Games training session for athletes when he joked, “I can’t wait to see my brother suffer more” with the arrival of a second child.

And if the Duke and Duchess have a girl this time, Harry quips that he would “love to see him try and cope with that.”

After welcoming wounded and injured soldiers to compete in the sports event that he helped to create, Harry, 29, continued to comment on the pregnancy news, this time in a more serious tone.

“I hope the two of them have the opportunity to go through the process again with a little bit of peace and quiet,” he said, adding that sister-in-law Kate was feeling “pretty poorly” from morning sickness, but “doing the best she can.”

I said it the other day and I’ll say it again: I hope they have a girl! Just because it would be adorable. Harry also thinks that Prince George will love being a big brother. We’ll see about that!

Prince William: ‘We’re hoping things just settle down and she feels a bit better’

wenn21690252

Here are some new photos of Prince Harry and Prince William doing separate events in England yesterday, shortly after Duchess Kate stole everybody’s thunder with the news that Prince George will have a new brother or sister to terrorize shortly. Harry was doing an event ahead of the Invictus Games and William was at Oxford for the opening of the Dickson Poon building (or whatever). Here are some various royal-themed stories going around:

*William was “greeted with cheers” upon his arrival at Oxford. He seemed in a good mood, despite the fact that Kate was supposed to do this event with him. She was too sick to go though. But William downplayed her sickness, saying: “She’s feeling okay, thanks. It’s been a tricky few days. But we’re immensely thrilled. It’s great news, and early days. We’re hoping things just settle down and she feels a bit better. I’m going to look after her now.” He also chatted with a young woman holding a 4-month-old baby and William complimented her on the baby’s silence.

*There are bets on the sex and the name of Baby Cambridge #2. London bookmakers think it’s far more likely that Kate will have another boy, and the most popular boy names are: James and Arthur. If it’s a girl, the most popular name choices are Elizabeth and Victoria. I don’t think they would do Victoria, honestly. But they would totally do Elizabeth. Oh, and I forgot about this too, but Queen Elizabeth changed her father’s previous edict about daughters born to princes. It used to be that if William and Kate had a daughter, she would only be Lady ~~~ Cambridge. The Queen changed it so any daughter they have will totally be a princess (unlike Kate!!).

*Prince Harry will be pushed back in the line of succession. When Baby #2 is born, Harry will become the fifth in line and Prince Andrew will be bumped to sixth.

*Harry spoke about his new little niece or nephew at the Invictus event. Harry was hilariously passive-aggressive about it, saying: “It’s very exciting news. [George] will be over the moon…I can’t wait to see my brother suffer more. If it’s a girl, he’ll suffer even more. I’d love to see him try and cope with that.” HAHAHA. Then Harry had a moment of seriousness and said: “In all seriousness, I hope my sister-in-law gets better soon. The last time I saw her, she was okay. Feeling pretty poorly, but I think that’s to be expected. Luckily I’m not a woman so I don’t have to go through that. It’s a pretty horrible thing.” I really hope Kate doesn’t end up baby-blocking the Invictus Games.
