50 Cent Dr. Dre Eminem Kendrick Lamar Mary J Blige Snoop Dogg Super Bowl

Dr. Dre, Snoop, Kendrick, Mary J. Blige & Eminem did a great Halftime Show, right?

The sound quality was somewhat poor and the staging was somewhat blah, but the Super Bowl Halftime Show this year was one of the best ones I’ve ever seen? It felt so organic, like all of the artists knew each other, liked each other and coordinated well with each other. That’s rarely the case, as the NFL tends to throw wildly different artists together for the Halftime Show as some kind of stunt. For this year’s show, we got Dr. Dre and Snoop, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick, Snoop and Dre are all from LA/Compton/Inglewood. 50 Cent and Eminem are close to Dre, who produced the show. And Mary… I think they just wanted Mary, and she killed it. She was one of the best parts, singing a medley of “Family Affair” and “No More Drama.” (The NFL is being tricky with the embed, so if you can’t see this video, go here to YouTube).

There was a lot of conversation on Twitter about how this was the most “Gen X” Halftime Show ever. I did have a moment where I was like… wow, Mary is singing stuff from a 2001 album. Eminem did “Lose Yourself,” the Oscar-winning song from the 2002 film 8 Mile. Snoop is 50 years old! So yeah… it was pretty Gen X! Kendrick kind of evened it out a bit – he’s a Millennial, but Gen Xers love him, so IDK.

You know who didn’t love this Halftime Show? Red states and Republicans! The amount of complaining because the Halftime show was full of “rappers” and (gasp) Black folks was really something. There were conservative commentators full-on weeping that Eminem was the only white artist (and Em was arguably the most openly liberal artist on the show). Not only that, the NFL tried to tell all of these Halftime artists that they could not make any reference to Colin Kaepernick or social justice or kneeling, and then EMINEM was the one who kneeled on stage.

That halftime show was so Black red states will have legislation to ban it by tomorrow morning.

Reportedly the NFL nixed Dre saying “still don’t love the police” and Eminem kneeling but both things happened

50 Cent gives fast food workers $30k for all their hard work

50 Cent loves spreading goodness around.  I’ve seen him do these wonderful pop up charitable events a few times.

50 stopped at a Burger King drive-through in Queens, New York, and give the workers $30,000 CASH!!

In the beginning of the video you see 50’s good friend and entrepreneur Jay Mazini at the drive up window telling workers to all come to the window so he can give them something.  He then starts handing out stacks of cash.

The real excitement comes 20 seconds in when Jay runs out of cash and calls for back up.

When the kids working see 50 cent working up they go bananas! One girl screaming “It’s my birthday” to which Fiddy responds “Happy Birthday”.   I mean… what else can he say, lol.

50 Cent says Trump offered him 500K to support election bid

Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has claimed that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign offered him half a million dollars to support him during the election.

In an interview with New York radio station Hot 97, Jackson said that during Trump’s campaign, he was offered $500,000 in what the rapper claimed was an effort to reach out to black voters.

“I was like, nah, that’s not good money,” the rapper said on the program. “Yeah I’m not gonna do that … that’s not worth it.”

The rapper, who was promoting “Power,” his television show on Starz, also called Trump’s election an “accident.”

“If you were president by accident, you might do some of the things Donald Trump is doing,” 50 Cent said. “I think he was [campaigning] to build his profile for a bigger deal on television, and everything else.”

The rapper continued: “I don’t think anything has divided people as fast” as Trump has.

The White House redirected a request for comment about the allegation to the Trump campaign, which didn’t immediately respond.

Pharrell Apologizes for Wearing First Nation Headdress on Elle UK

Pharrell Elle cover

-When are fashion editors going to realize that putting people in headdresses during photo shoots is a terrible idea? Pharrell Williams has apologized for his Elle cover.

-Speaking of stepping in it, Jonah Hill’s apology tour continues. He got choked up about those homophobic comments he made during appearances on both Fallon and GMA. As crappy as his behaviour was (and reportedly can be), at least he’s not shying away from it or blaming the stresses of fame.

-In other news about celebrities being on the defensive, another video of Justin Bieber making racist jokes has surfaced. It’s obviously terrible, but he’s so, so young in it.

Elisabeth Moss’ spin on overalls almost makes that stupid trend acceptable. Almost.

-Have Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart broken up? Because when even People mag can’t put a good spin on it, there’s trouble.

-Meanwhile, Jenny McCarthy is taking potshots at JLo over Twitter. This won’t end well.

-Here are the five people who “get it,” according to Rihanna. You’re not one of them.

Peter Dinklage‘s high school mullet was a thing of beauty.

Mischa Barton‘s life sounds really sad. On the plus side, people are still paying her to put that sad life on display.

-The Kardashians continue to breed. The one they call “Khloe” is reportedly expecting her third kidlet.

-Speaking of babies, Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko have confirmed reports that their first child is on the way.

-This is the best news I’ve heard all day: Gossip Girl’s Zuzanna Szadkowski will be on the next season of Girls. Dorota!

Eva Green doesn’t mind that we’ve all seen her boobs.

Jared Leto is a venture capitalist now. Let’s hope that job description involves lots of leaning.

-Thank god for the internet. I had lots of confused feelings about that attempted rape scene in the most recent episode of Louie, and am glad everyone’s talking it out. But it still disturbs me that the knee-jerk reaction on Twitter seemed to be that Louis CK can do no wrongI guess we’ll see if there’s any fallout next week.

-On a much lighter note, here’s everything his Hungarian girlfriend said to him, translated.

-It’s probably not a good sign for the TV industry that an article about this season’s winners and losers is mostly filled with losers.

-They’re not all losers. Game of Thrones’ ratings now rival The Walking Dead with 18 million this season.

Robert Downey Jr. is producing an ’80s rehab drama. I like all of those words.

Dina Lohan got her driver’s license suspended yesterday, but she’s not going to jail because the universe sucks.

-Early reviews of the new season of Orange Is the New Black are glowing.

Amanda Seyfried showcased her rapping skills during a recent interview with the BBC. Seth MacFarlane‘s embarrassed expression is all of us right now.

-A movie I saw at TIFF last year starring Toni Collette is out this week. It’s probably a bad sign that I totally forgot I’d seen it until about halfway through this review.

50 Cent‘s Reddit AMA was surprisingly funny. He blamed that terrible baseball pitch on  a muscle injury “from excessive masturbation” and shot down Aziz Ansari’s grapefruit story.

Here’s an excerpt from J.K. Rowling’s second detective novel, The Silkworm.

Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum‘s Jupiter Ascending has been abruptly pushed back from its July release date to the movie wasteland that’s Feb 2015. That’s not a good sign. Too bad; the trailer looked intriguing.

-Speaking of trailers, Elizabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning play Very Good Girls in their latest movie.

Star: Jennifer Aniston thinks Chelsea Handler is a gauche name-dropper

wenn5686958

In yesterday’s Chelsea Handler post – the one about Chelsea single white female-ing Jennifer Aniston’s hair (and life!) – some commenters suggested a hidden history between Jennifer and Chelsea, a conspiracy theory that I hadn’t heard. The theory: that Chelsea had hooked up with Justin Theroux in some way and that perhaps Chelsea and Jennifer’s relationship was ruined because of it, and maybe that’s why Jen and Justin are acting like they’re broken up too. Just to be clear: no one has any evidence that any of that happened. At all. It’s just an interesting theory. But Star Magazine has a different theory! According to unnamed “Aniston pals,” Jennifer has begun to realize that Chelsea Handler is a gauche starf—ker. *clutches pearls*

Onetime besties Jennifer Aniston and Chelsea Handler are on the outs, thanks to the E! talk show host’s “aggressive attempts” to upgrade her friendships!

“Jen called Chelsea a suck-up for begging for an invite to Sandra Bullock’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony and hanging all over her,” hisses an Aniston pal. “Chelsea doesn’t even know Sandra!”

Jen’s also rolling her eyes over Chelsea’s gauche behavior. “Chelsea name-drops everyone she hangs out with, whether it’s Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Katie Couric or 50 Cent,” says the insider, “Jen’s definitely pulled back from Chelsea.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Here’s my question: Jennifer is just realizing this NOW? Chelsea has always been on the Uptradey Warpath (she’s like Pippa Middleton only… no, there’s no difference). Chelsea has always traded favors and favorable coverage for off-camera “friendships” and access. She’s always been gauche. It says more that being “gauche” about uptrading girlfriends is more of a dealbreaker for Aniston than, say, all of that awful crap Chelsea has said about Angelina Jolie and the Jolie-Pitt children.
