In yet another fucked up element to an already super fucked up story, Kesha has said that her lengthy and intense battle to be released from her recording contract with Sony Music could have come to an end recently as they offered to let her go scot-free… if only she recanted her claims that Dr. Luke raped her. Uhhhh, how about no? Writing on Instagram, Kesha exposed the bullshit she’s been through to let people know that there’s far more that goes on behind closed doors than is reported to the public (which, duh, but some people are thick-skulled). Obviously Kesha didn’t bite and refuses to back down about what happened to her just to make Dr. Luke or Sony’s life easier, and good for her. so. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. Kesha once swore under oath that Dr. Luke never raped her
Of course people are giving Kesha a hard time now because during a 2011 deposition for a case in which a separate manager was suing both Kesha and Dr. Luke, Kesha swore under oath that Dr. Luke had never raped her or sexually assaulted her. Many people (i.e. Dr Luke & Co) think this is definitive proof that Dr. Luke is innocent against Kesha’s recent allegations and that Kesha is a liar. Nevermind that Kesha has confided in her therapist and several fans for years over the abuse or that she could easily have been coerced into lying on the stand at the time… but whatever. From TMZ: The deposition had been sealed … and this morning Dr. Luke’s lawyer went to court asking the judge in his case to unseal the depo and allow it to be used in the current case. We’re told Kesha’s lawyer argued it was NOT fair game but the judge disagreed and unsealed it. And a statement from Kesha’s lawyer, from Gossip Cop: “Luke’s latest legal maneuver comes as no surprise; it’s a desperate Hail Mary and a pathetic attempt to once again blame his victim. As detailed in our complaint, Luke walked Kesha down the beach and threatened to destroy Kesha’s life and the lives of her family if she didn’t cover up his sexual assaults in a 2011 deposition. He is now following through on his threats and grasping at straws to try and twist Kesha’s coerced statements. Unfortunately protecting abusers out of fear happens all too often with battered women. This case is about Luke’s physical, emotional and psychological abuse of Kesha and her fight to get him out of her life. After being driven to the brink of death and into rehab, she’s no longer going to allow herself to wither away at the hands of her abuser as he tries to blame the victim.” This whole thing is such a colossal mess, bigtime. I love how often women are discredited as “liars” when it comes to sexual abuse. Have women lied about such things? Unfortunately, yes. Kesha’s mother threatened Dr. Luke via email
Uh oh. After news broke that Kesha was suing Dr. Luke for alleged emotional, physical and sexual abuse which has taken place over the past 10 years, Dr. Luke fired back, claiming that this was an elaborate extortion plan just to get Kesha out of her contract. A bit extreme, but it’s becoming more obvious where he got that defense from, since apparently Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, sent his lawyer an email a year ago warning that this was coming. From TMZ: In the email — obtained by TMZ — Pebe Sebert complains that Luke screwed her out of music publishing rights connected to her daughter. She then says, “We, me and Kesha and her friends, like Lady Gaga, are going to make all of this Really PUBLIC, in the next few days. Luke date raped Kesha when she was 18. Nicky Hilton’s birthday? Paris Hilton’s house? Luke gave Kesha pills. She ended up naked in his hotel room 2 days later. No longer a virgin?” The email then gives an ultimatum: “Do we all want this to come out? Either Luke releases Kesha from all legal contracts, and gives me back all my publishing, or we, Kesha and I, tell the truth.” And then there’s this: “And if I wind up dead, TRUST ME, IT’S IN WRITING TO CALL YOU AND LUKE.” Luke says in his lawsuit against Kesha her allegations are a pack of lies and designed to scare him into releasing her from a binding recording contract. He also claims Kesha and her mom have admitted they lied about the allegations. I dunno still, guys. For one thing, do we know this email was really sent (or that it was real/not made up by Dr Luke’s side)? Second of all, while it does sound like she’s trying to blackmail him, that doesn’t mean the allegations are false. Third of all, WHY WON’T HE LET HER OUT OF THIS RECORDING CONTRACT? Like, literally – whether he’s guilty or not, whether she’s lying or not, what possible working relationship can these two have moving forward? I’m honestly not getting it.
