Lupita Nyong’o in green Dior Couture at the BAFTAs: perfection or just too much?

I’m still not tired of Lupita Nyong’o, but I’m also wary of turning her into The Next Overexposed Starlet. This dress won’t help matters! Lupita wore Dior Couture for last night’s BAFTAs. She didn’t win the Best Supporting Actress Award (that went to absent Jennifer Lawrence), but Lupita did win a place on the top of most “best dressed” lists. I think most women avoid wearing green on the red carpet because they fear – as I would – that green-on-red looks like Christmas. But I think that fear is unjustified because look at this. Lupita provided a wonderful splash of color, the dress fit her like a dream and that green looks amazing on her skin. My one qualm: this dress seems slightly “extra” for this show and it might have made for a better Oscar dress than BAFTA dress.

And now we go from someone who went overboard to someone who needed to go a bit more extra, Laura Carmichael, also known as Lady Edith Crawley from Downton Abbey. Laura wore Erdem. It’s an okay dress. It was not right for the BAFTAs. It would have been fine at a premiere, but she should have opted for a proper gown at this event. Also: her styling is awful! Did she just pull her hair back with a scrunchie?!

And here’s our Irene Adler, aka The Woman, aka Lara Pulver. Lara wore Yuvna Kim London – feathered nonsense. I don’t get this at all. I don’t get the granny panties or how this is even supposed to be flattering. Ugh! I don’t even know why Sherlock saved her.
